  • The family Triphoridae Gray, 1847 is a group of marine microgastropods characterized by sinistral (left-coiled) shells except for the subfamily Metaciinae, which has dextral shell coiling. We report a new record of Mastonia rubra (Hinds, 1843) collected from the intertidal zone from Jeju Island, Korea and revise species list for Korean Triphoridae species. Mastonia rubra is distinguished from Inforis fusiformis(Kosuge, 1961) by the purple color of the first and second whorls of the teleoconch, whereas they are light colored and nearly white corresponding whorls in I. fusiformis. Including this new record, the Korean Triphoridae comprises 20 species from 15 genera.

  • Levelized generation cost(LGC) has been widely used in assessing feed-in tariffs(FiT) for electricity generating from new and renewable energies. Current FiTs for renewable electricity in Korea have been fixed and applied with realistic economic data by the efforts of KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) since October 2006. Some critical issues on the estimation of LGC are, however, found in KERI's report. Major issues are the estimation of capital cost, the consideration of corporate tax, and the application of economic life cycle in the formulae for LGC. These critical issues are examined and interpreted in a correct way in this paper.

  • This study describes a new species of cytheroid ostracod, Paradoxostoma koreana sp. nov., collected in Korea. In addition, three other cytheroid ostracods, P. setoense Schornikov, 1975, Loxoconcha pulchra Ishizaki, 1968, and Ishizakiella miurensis (Hanai, 1957), are reported with brief descriptions and images. Paradoxostoma setoense and L. pulchra were previously only known from Japan, while I. miurensis was previously reported from Korea. Here, we describe variability in hemipenis morphology observed in the Korean population. The new species is closely related to several East Asian species, but its sister species is P. rhomboideum Okubo, 1977. The primary difference between the new species and P. rhomboideum is morphology of the distal projections of the hemipenis, but minor differences exist in the details of the cheatotaxy of other appendages. This report also provides a list of all East Asian Paradoxostomatidae.

  • We report a new architecture for high efficiency polymer solar cells introducing a new concept of 'optical spacer' with new material. By implementing a novel solution-based titanium oxide ($TiO_{x}$) layer between the active layer and the electron collecting Al electrode, we invented a way to increase ${\sim}50\;%$ in power conversion efficiency compared to conventional polymer solar cells. Now the new devices exhibit ${\sim}6\;%$ power conversion efficiency, which is the highest value reported to date for a polymer based photovoltaic cell. The $TiO_{x}$ layer increases the efficiency by modifying the spatial distribution of the light intensity inside the device, thereby creating more photogenerated charge carriers in the bulk heterojunction layer.

  • We report the suitable SLS (sequential lateral solidification) as a function of laser intensity. Precursor film is changed from 50nm to 100nm and is deposited on glass substrate by PECVD. We can find the suitable SLS length by changing the mask size. In this paper, we present the well-defined grain growth conditions as a function of laser intensity.

  • Chironomid adults were collected by light traps at night, sweeping on grasses, during daytime hours, sweeping of swarming males with an insect net, and aspiration of light-attracted adults using a sucking tube. The collected specimens were slide-mounted and examined. I identified two species new to science, namely Orthocladius manhaei n. sp. and Ablabesmyia jeongi n. sp., and three species for the first time in Korea: Paratrichocladius tamaator Sasa, 1981, Rheocricotopus chalybeatus (Edwards, 1929) and Hayesomyia tripunctata (Goetghebuer, 1922). This is the first report of the genera Rheocricotopus and Hayesomyia in Korea. The genus Hayesomyia in the tribe Pentaneurini of Tanypodinae has a Holarctic distribution with only one species recorded from each of the Palaearctic and Nearctic regions.

  • Domains are the building blocks of proteins. Exon shuffling is an important mechanism accounting for combination of a limited repertoire of protein domains in the evolution of multicellular species. A relative excess of domains encoded by symmetric exons in metazoan phyla has been presented as evidence of exon shuffling, and symmetric domains can be divided into old and new domains by determining the ages of the domains. In this report, we compare the spread, versatility, and subcellular localization of old and new domains by analyzing eight metazoan genomes and their respective annotated proteomes. We found that new domains have been expanding as multicellular organisms evolved, and this expansion was principally because of increases in class 1-1 domains amongst several classes of domain families. We also found that younger domains have been expanding in membranes and secreted proteins along with multi-cellular organism evolution. In contrast, old domains are located mainly in nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins. We conclude that the increasing mobility and versatility of new domains, in contrast to old domains, plays a significant role in metazoan evolution, facilitating the creation of secreted and transmembrane multidomain proteins unique to metazoa.

  • A new species of Halacaridae, Copidognathus koreanus is recorded from the Korean coast mostly among intertidal coralline algae. The present new species comes close with C.auroroe Newell, C.curtus (Hall), C.richardi (Trouessart) and C.unolaskensis Newell. Morphological similarities and dissimilarities among them are discussed. This is the first report on the marine halacarid mite from Korea.

  • National qualification system for SW engineering is intended to be mechanisms to assure the competence of SW professionals. Qualification system for SW engineering can be categorized as national qualification, nationally certified private qualification, and private qualifications. In this paper, we present a summary report of needs analysis for new national qualification systems, based on the survey from human resource department managers of IT companies in IT service, package SW and embedded SW industry. The survey results show that SW qualification system is appropriate for evaluation and career management, but does not provide up-to-date information concerning the technology assessment and change. Based on the result form needs analysis, we suggest the SW specialist and embedded SW specialist as new licenses in national qualification system. In addition, we also propose SW quality management engineer, systems management engineer, IT Protect management engineer, network management engineer and SW architect engineer, as new nationally certified private qualifications.
