  • As the new model development lead time becoming shorter and the market requirements becoming more strict, automobile manufacturer begins to utilize 3-dimensional CAD system based techniques such as DMU (Digital Mock-up), Rf (Rapid Prototyping), VE (Virtual Engineering) to meet the market trends. But, no satisfactory utilities have been developed yet, to represent emotional properties such as embossment on the surface of interior parts, touch originated from material characteristics in virtual environment, so it is inevitable to manufacture prototype parts to verify actual feeling which passengers feel in automobile. This paper suggests a methodology to enhance the human sensitivity via embodying embossment on the surface of prototype car interior trim without deterioration of dimensional accuracy using RIM (Reaction Injection Molding) and thermoforming method.

  • An important process for making a new class of polymeric material is called microcellular plastics invented at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Many researches for microcellular plastics have been done in various ways and fields. But a research for the polymer which has previous history has not been tried yet. In this paper, weight gain of $CO_2$ was measured in a polymer matrix which had previous history and no history. In each case, experimental data for solubility and diffusivity was shown. A model for $CO_2$ solution process in molecular range was made. The conclusion of this paper is that the previous history has an effect on diffusivity but not solubility and the previous history made by $CO_2$ in supercritical state makes diffusivity of $CO_2$ larger.

  • The transport mechanisms of the MTES (methyltriethoxysilane) templating silica/a-alumina composite membrane were evaluated by using four binary and one quaternary hydrogen mixtures through permeation experiments at unsteady- and steady-states. Since the permeation flux in the MTES membrane, through the experimental and theoretical studies, was affected by molecular sieving effects as well as surface diffusion properties, the kinetic and equilibrium separation should be considered simultaneously according to molecular properties. In order to depict the transient multi-component permeation on the templating silica membrane, the GMS (generalized Maxwell-Stefan) and DGM (dust gas model) were adapted to unsteady-state material balance.

  • With the steady depletion off fossil fuel reserves, hydrogen based energy sources become increasingly attractive. Therefore hydrogen production or separation technologies, such as Bas separation membrane based on adsorption technology, have received enormous attention in the industrial and academic fields. In this study, the transport mechanisms of the MTES (methyltriethoxysilane) templating silica/a-alumina composite membrane were evaluated by using unary, binary and quaternary hydrogen gas mixtures permeation experiments at unsteady- and steady-states. Since the permeation flux in the MTES membrane, through the experimental and theoretical study, was affected by molecular sieving effects as well as surface diffusion properties, the kinetic and equilibrium separation should be considered simultaneously in the membrane according to molecular properties. In order to depict the transient multi-component permeation on the templating silica membrane, the GMS (generalized Maxwell-Stefan) and DGM (dust Bas model) were adapted to unsteady-state material balance

  • A product consists of some parts. The integrity of a product might not be explained from individual parts. The fishery processed goods can be used as a model. The characteristics which derives from a product as a whole is more important than right or wrong of individual parts. All commodities to appeal for consumers have much in common. I explain the process of producing a new tasteful commodity by observing the fishery processing goods business. This is a part of data acquired from a research at a fishery port in Japan. (1) A project manager should be a person in charge of marketing, which makes success easier. (2) A product and process design should be done concurrently. (3) As for a synthetic architectural commodity, a strong leader is a must. (4) To understand material and sensibility information, we can use the above-mentioned.

  • In this study, anisotopic yield function is proposed for the numerical analysis of reinforced tunnel ground with grouting. For this, material properties of the reinforced ground both by equilibrium as well as kinematic condition along the interface and by the mean field theory of Eshelby (1957) and Zhao (1990) are compared with each other and, as a result, the advantage/disadvantage of the proposed models are summarized. Finally, reinforced ground around tunnel with grouting is analyzed numerically. A new anisotropic yield function model is shown to be more reliable than the previous one and the predicted result is agreeable with the experimental data available.

  • Recently, an approach for nanoscale deformation has been developed that couples the atomistic and continuum approaches using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Molecular Dynamics (MD). However, this approach still has problems to connect two approaches because of the difference of basic assumptions, continuum and atomistic. To solve this problem, an alternative way is developed that connects the quasimolecular dynamics (QMD) and molecular dynamics (MD). In this paper, we suggest the way to make and validate the MD-QMD coupled model.

  • The tall building and super tall building has been a common building type in China, with multiple functions and complex geometry. Composite construction is broadly used in tall building structures and constitutes the mixed structure together with concrete and steel constructions. The mixture of the constructions is purposely designed for specific area based on the analysis results to achieve the best cost-effectiveness. New types of composite construction are conceived of by engineers for columns and walls. Material distribution is more flexible and innovative in the structural level and member level. However the reliability of computer model analysis should be verified carefully. Further researches in the design and build of composite construction are necessary to ensure the success of its application. Composite or Mixture Index is suggested to be used as a performance benchmark.

  • This paper deals with the formulation and solution of a wide class of structures, in the presence of both geometric and material nonlinearities, as a particular mathematical programming problem. We first present key ideas for the nonholonomic (path dependent) rate formulation for a suitably discretized structural model before we develop its computationally advantageous stepwise holonomic (path independent) counterpart. A feature of the final mathematical programming problem, known as a nonlinear complementarity problem, is that the governing relations exhibit symmetry as a result of the introduction of so-called nonlinear "residuals". One advantage of this form is that it facilitates application of a particular iterative algorithm, in essence a predictor-corrector method, for the solution process. As an illustrative example, we specifically consider the simplest case of plane trusses and detail in particular the general methodology for establishing the static-kinematic relations in a dual format. Extension to other skeletal structures is conceptually transparent. Some numerical examples are presented to illustrate applicability of the procedure.

  • This paper presents a new magneto-thermal finite element analysis for predicting the temperature rise of the EHV GIS busbar. Joule's heat due to current flowing in the main conductor and the heat due to the induced eddy current in the tank are calculated by the magnetic field analysis. And these heats are used as the input data to predict the temperature rise for the thermal analysis. However, it is not easy to apply the heat-transfer coefficients on the boundaries for the thermal analysis. In this paper, the heat-transfer coefficients on the boundaries are analytically calculated by applying the Nusselt number considering material constant and model geometry for the natural convection. The temperature distribution in the busbar by coupled magneto-thermal finite element analysis shows good agreement with the experimental data.
