  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper was to examine the views of nursing homes for the elderly in Korea and Japan. Research design, data, and Methodology - This study aims to review the past researches on the social welfare and nursing homes for the elderly in Korea and Japan. A comprehensive view is offered with comparisons on the differences between the two countries regarding the dramatic increase of the elderly population. Results - It could be seen that with the significant increase of the elderly populations, it is getting more difficult for families to take care of their elders. Thus, nursing homes offer an alternative to busy family members in the current times. Improvements are much needed in the nursing homes for the health of the elderly. Conclusions - In order to offer better quality of life for the elderly in the nursing homes, more measures need to be taken to engage the elderly into activities. The depression that can be experienced when the elderly move to the nursing homes might be alleviated with new social circles and activities in the nursing homes, as well as human interactions with the staff.

Takurosyo is responsible for a variety function of elderly medical welfare facilities. Within a short time, our country, has entered into a super-aged society, elderly health and welfare facilities are needed. However, because it requires enormous financial, it is difficult to build a new building in reality, However, if remodeling existing buildings, We can build many low-cost small-scale multi-functional welfare facilities such as the takurosyo. Such that facility would be available to us.

Older individuals have distinct patterns of cancer and treatment needs. We therefore conducted the present study of new cancer cases and trends to get a perspective on the elderly cancer situation in Northeast Thailand. Materials and Methods: All new elderly cancer cases (${\geq}65$ years) registered in the hospital-based cancer registry at the Faculty of Medicine, Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University during 1993-2012 were included in the study. Results: Elderly patients accounted for 31.6% of all cancer patients and new cancer cases in the older age group increased 46% from the first to second decades. The absolute number of oldest old (80+ years) doubled. The top three cancers in males were liver and bile duct, lung, and colorectal. In females, the three most common cancers were liver and bile duct, oral cavity, and cervix. Cancers with the highest percentages of increase were thyroid, prostate, and colorectal. • Introduction of new longterm care policy for elderly in Korea would change many aspects of elderly care service facilities. Especially elderly home care services like adult daycare centers will expand drastically after beginning of longterm care insurance. The purpose of this study is to estimate demand of adult daycare centers by comparing with the U.S and Japanese cases. Korean government is expecting that adult daycare centers will expand ten times within 4 years. This estimate is exceeding the facility demand estimate of the U.S. and Japan. The results of population study and expecting growth rate of adult daycare centers in Seoul indicate that more than 300 centers, 4 times of the number of existing centers, are in need based on Seoul elderly population in 2004. To supply these numbers of facilities in short period, more in depth study should be followed. Existing adult daycare facilities' in Seoul were analyzed by their building and management types. Interior spaces of adult daycare centers in Korea are similar to the U.S. and Japan in space arrangements but much smaller in size. In depth study of space programming as well as overall demand survey of adult daycare centers is urgently in need for more realistic expansion of adult daycare centers.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a designing method with excellent body suitability by analyzing clothingwearing porosity, comparing and analyzing patterns, and evaluating outer appearances by designing a prototype of study applied with design measurements for categories that have influence on the outer appearance of clothing through diverse research methods, by comparing and analyzing bunka and new bunka style basic pattern, which are proportional basic patterns most frequently used in schools for educational use to design bodice pattern for elderly women in their late 60s. As for the process of this study, the first stage selected study subjects, measured bodies. The second stage compared patterns of bunka and new bunka style basic pattern and evaluated outer appearances that deduced important pattern designing categories to design upper-torso bodice pattern of elderly women. The results of this study are as following ; As a result of comparing and analyzing bunka and new bunka style basic pattern, overall evaluation of outer appearance was excellent for new bunka style basic pattern, and bunka basic pattern received better reviews for the width and depth of front neck. In terms of waist circumference, waist front length, bust point location and bust point-bust point, bunka and new bunka style basic patterns showed a significant difference. new bunka style basic pattern had 4.5cm larger front armhole depth than bunka basic pattern, so it was evaluated to have more appropriate front armhole length, bust point location, and bust point-bust point. Through observation for primary excellent categories and precedent studies, 7 categories of front neck width, front neck depth, front interscye, back neck width, back neck depth, back interscye, and back armhole depth were deduced to have relations to the extra room around arm holes and waist that affect pattern designing method and porosity and evaluations of outer appearance.

  • This study delves into the unique transformation of South Korea's elderly population, distinctively termed 'Nomad Silver'. Characterized by individuals aged 65 and above who actively seek novel experiences and embrace new activities, this demographic shift signifies a departure from traditional perceptions of the elderly. The Nomad Silver cohort, distinguished by their significant economic influence and evolving needs, necessitates a tailored approach to healthcare services. This paper underscores the importance of comprehending both the fundamental biological needs and the personalized desires of the Nomad Silver, aiming to enhance their satisfaction and overall well-being. Hospitals, in response, should innovate their services to resonate with the emotional, psychological, and social facets of this age group. Consequently, the paper proposes a four-pronged strategy for hospitals to adapt: comprehensive healthcare provision, patient-centric service development, senior health education coupled with community engagement, and establishing a generational bridge hub. Furthermore, the paper posits that catering to the Nomad Silver not only promises substantial financial gains for hospitals but also fosters new business opportunities across various sectors.
