Evolution of post-peak localized strain field of steel under quasi-static uniaxial tension: Analytical study

  • Constitutive modeling that could reasonably predict and effectively evaluate the post-peak structural behavior while eliminating the mesh-dependency in numerical simulation remains to be developed for general engineering applications. Based on the previous work, a simple one-dimensional modeling procedure is proposed to predict and evaluate the post-peak response, as characterized by the evolution of localized strain field, of a steel member to monotonically uniaxial tension. The proposed model extends the classic one-dimensional softening with localization model as introduced by (Schreyer and Chen 1986) to account for the localization length, and bifurcation and rupture points. The new findings of this research are as follows. Two types of strain-softening functions (bilinear and nonlinear) are proposed for comparison. The new failure criterion corresponding to the constitutive modeling is formulated based on the engineering strain inside the localization zone at rupture. Furthermore, a new mathematical expression is developed, based on the strain rate inside and outside the localization zone, to describe the displacement field at which bifurcation occurs. The model solutions are compared with the experimental data on four low-carbon cylindrical steel bars of different lengths. For engineering applications, the model solutions are also compared to the experimental data of a cylindrical steel bar system (three steel bars arranged in series). It is shown that the bilinear and nonlinear softening models can predict the energy dissipation in the post-peak regime with an average difference of only 4%.

  • In this study, slope stability analysis of LCRS(Leachate Collection Removel System) in waste landfill was peformed by large scale field test. Geocomat is new type of geocomposite product. Gecomat is a sort of Geocomposite product. It is composed of nonwoven geotextiles, woven geotextile, and geonet. Large scale field tests were performed on the slope of different two LCRSsections with static loading condition. One is LCRS section witch consist of GCL, HDPE and Geocomat, another is GCL, HDPE, and woven type geocomposite. The behavior of geosynthetics lined slope was monitored by incorporating instrumentation including vertical soil pressure meter, settlement plate, strain gauges, potential meter, displacement pin.. Based on the field monitoring, the Geocomat LCRS section is less sliding than the conventional geocomposite LCRS section.

이단계 칼만필터를 활용한 사회기반 건설구조물의 3자유도 동적변위 계측 시스템 (Two Stage Kalman Filter based Dynamic Displacement Measurement System for Civil Infrastructures)

  • 본 논문에서는 이단계 칼만필터를 활용한 구조물의 3 자유도 동적변위 계측 시스템을 소개한다. 개발 시스템은 센서 모듈, 베이스 모듈, 컴퓨테이션 모듈로 구성되어 있다. 센서 모듈은 100Hz 샘플주파수의 고정밀 가속도를 계측하는 포스피드백 가속도계와 10Hz의 샘플주파수의 저정밀도의 속도, 변위를 계측하는 저가의 RTK-GNSS로 구성되어 있다. 계측된 데이터는 LAN 케이블을 통하여 컴퓨테이션 모듈로 전송되고, 컴퓨테이션 모듈에서 이단계 칼만필터를 활용하여 100Hz 샘플주파수의 고정밀 변위를 실시간으로 산정한다. 개발 시스템의 변위 계측 정밀도를 검증하기 위해 미국, 캘리포니아에 위치한 San Francisco-Oaklmand Bay bridge 에서 현장 실험을 수행하였으며, 실험 결과 1.68mm RMS 오차를 보임을 확인하였다.

효과적인 열응력 해석을 위한 사각형 추가 변형률 요소의 개발 (Development of a Quadrilateral Enhanced Assumed Strain Element for Efficient and Accurate Thermal Stress Analysis)

  • A new quadrilateral plane stress element is developed for efficient and accurate analysis of thermal stress problems. It is convenient to use the same mesh and the same shape functions for thermal analysis and stress analysis. But, because of the inconsistency between deformation related strain field and thermal strain field, oscillatory responses and considerable errors in stresses are resulted in. To avoid undesired oscillations, strain approximation is enhanced by supplementing several assumed strain terms based on the variational principle. Thermal deformation is incorporated into the generalized mixed variational principle for displacement, strain and stress fields, and basic equations for the modified enhanced assumed strain method are derived. For the stress approximation of bilinear elements, the $5{\beta}$ version of Pian and Sumihara is adopted. The numerical results for several problems show that the present element behaves well and reduces oscillatory responses. it also results in almost the same magnitude of error as compared with the quadratic element.

BTR공법의 시공단계별 안전성 해석 (A Safety Analysis of the BTR Method by Construction Sequence)

  • In this study was conducted numerical analysis to evaluate the stability of BTR(Built-in Timber Roof Tunneling Method), which is one of construction methods of underground structures in the non-opening state. The discretion method was applied to individually model reinforcing members of BTR, and the homogeneity analysis technic by area ratio was used to verify the feasibility comparing this result with that from conventional analysis method. The parameter study was performed to evaluate the effect varying ground depth, distance length of reinforcing supports and to verify the field applicability of new analysis method. The results showed the very precise value with allowable error, so this method can be applied in the field, The more length of supporting members caused the more vertical displacement and the top displacement increment of support members is larger than that of ground surace. The effect of ground depth was more impressive than that of distance length of reinforcing supports.

  • RAINBOW(Reduced And Internally Biased Oxide Wafers) are a new class of high-displacement, piezoelectric actuator produced by selectively removing oxygen from one surface of ceramic using a high-temperature chemical reduction process. In this paper, RAINBOW composition of 0.4Pb$(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.6Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ were prepared. Its dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated in the vicinity of MPB. The strain - electric field characteristics of RAINBOW actuator were significantly improved comparison with the conventional bulk actuator.

유한 요소법을 이용한 대변위 압전 Bimorph 설계 (Design of Large Displacement Piezoelectric Bimorphs with Finite Element Method)

  • This paper describes the design and evaluation of new type piezoelectric bimorph actuator that shows much large mechanical response than those conventional types. The bimorph actuator has modified structure combined with the multilayer actuator(MLA) and the composite multilayer actuator called "Moonie". The design and performancean alysis of bimorph actuator are carried out with Finite Element Method (FEM). Theoretical calculation results show that the generating force and displacement of Moonie-modified bimorph actuator can be improved by about 130% and 150%, respectively. The overshooting and ringing phenomena of the bimorph can be effectively restrained by the pseudo step electric field having a rising time coincied with a period of the fundamental vibration mode of the bimorph.e bimorph.

A high-order analytical method for thick composite tubes

  • In the present paper, a new high-order simple-input analytical method is used to study thick laminated composite straight tubes subjected to combined axial force, torque and bending moment. The most general displacement field of elasticity for an arbitrary laminated composite straight tube is obtained to analytically calculate stresses under combined loadings based on a layerwise method. The accuracy of the proposed method is subsequently verified by comparing the numerical results obtained using the proposed method with finite element method (FEM) and experimental data. The results show good corresponded. The proposed method provides advantages in terms of computational time compared to FEM.

  • The combined technique of holographic interferometry and speckle photography, so called holospeckle interferometry, has been attention for the measurement of 3-D displacements. This new technique enables the researcher to obtain information of in plane and out-of plane displacements from one photographic plate. There is room for further development of special optical arrangement in order to apply holospeckle interferometry in specific field. In this study, the enlarged fringe pattern was obtained by specifical optical arrangement.

Digital DC power supply for light accelerator

  • There are 70 vertical and 70 horizontal correctors for Pohang Light Source. Until mid of 2000, power supplies for these correctors were based on 1990's technology, so the global orbit feedback system was not possible with poor 12 bit resolution. A new task force team was assembled to develop new power supplies with BESSY type DAC cards. After the project, two vertical correctors in each lattice were connected with new power supplies, and the global orbit feedback was available within the accuracy of 5 microns. However, this replacement was not enough to satisfy the beam stability requirement of 2 microns for PLS. We have launched another power supply design based on all digital technology. This attempt was completed within a year, and 80 units were assembled in house. Currently, the global orbit feedback system is running successfully with new digital power supplies and the compensation of chamber motion due to the thermal load by using digital displacement transducers attached on each BPMs.
