  • In this paper, we propose a sender-based TCP congestion control scheme for downward vertical handover (DVHO), in which mobile node moves from a cellular network to a wireless LAN. DVHO can give rise to severe performance problems in TCP throughput because it causes a drastic change of link characteristics. Particularly, TCP executes falsely congestion control by packet reordering, which is occurred from link delay difference between a cellular link and a wireless LAN link. Therefore, the congestion window is reduced. And unnecessary retransmissions wastes bandwidth. To solve these problems, we propose a method using estimated round-trip time in cellular link to process duplicated ACKs from reordering. Furthermore, the duplicated ACKs are used to the control congestion window size. Simulation result shows that the proposed scheme can solve problems. Moreover, the proposed scheme can have better performance than TCP New Reno and nodupack.

  • Mobile computing environment is known to be quite difficult to provide user with a stable Quality of Service (QoS) due to vehicle mobility nature. In order to protect the inherent characteristics of wireless network such as low bandwidth and high transmission delay along with the vehicle's mobility, many works are conducted to apply caching and prefetching methods. This paper presents a novel prefetching technique which is based on owner's profile. It is the scheme with the vehicle velocity, the visit frequency and resident time of specific region for vehicle owner's past given period, and the user profile which has owner's personal inclination about a certain place. The proposed scheme shown relatively superior performance in terms of the utilization ratio of prefetched information and the failure ratio of information retrieval than the previous methods.

  • Due to the limited storage space in video proxy server, it is often required to replace the old video data which is not serviced for long time with the newly requested video. This replacement causes the service delay and increase of network traffic. To circumvent this problem, we propose the an efficient replacement scheme in a video proxy server. In addition, we present a video data management technique for decreasing the number of replacement in video proxy server. For this purpose, we employ a memory in video proxy server. If the video segment which is loaded in memory is requested once again by a different user, this segment is resided in memory. The video in the memory is stored in the video proxy server depending on the consuming pattern by users. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than other algorithms in terms of packet hit rate and number of packet replacement.

  • This paper presents a new multiprocessor system and corresponding scheduling algorithm that can be applied for implementation of fine grain DSP algorithms such as digital filters. The newly proposed system uses one or more shared buses as the basic interconnection network between processors, and fixed amount of clock-skew is maintained between instruction execution of processors. This system not only can handle the interprocessor communications very efficiently but also can explicitly incorporate the interprocessor communication delay time into the multiprocessor scheduling model. This paper also presents a new scheduling strategy for implementing digital filters expressed in fully-specified flow graphs on the proposed system. The simulation result shows that well-known digital filters can be implemented on proposed multiprocessor in which the implementation satisfies the iteration period bound.

  • It can be organized with PVRs and FC-AL for a high-quality TV content-sharing architecture. It is, however, not easy to configure a large community network with the FC-AL since it has a 7-bit address space with supporting up to 127 users. We, therefore, propose a novel scalable FC-AL multiple-loop architecture using shared disks, which does not need to use expensive and load-concentrated switches. In this article, our suggested architecture shows a superb startup delay, such as less than 20msec. In addition, it demonstrates outstanding scalability, such that the number of accomodable users increases almost linearly according to adding loops. Lastly, it reveals exceptional time-shifting hours, that is, which supports more than 140 hours with 1000 users.

  • Message handling function of the SS7(Signaling System N0.7) provides signaling traffic routing capabilities to transfer the signaling traffic to the destination nodes in the signaling network. This message handling function should be handled without any transfer delay for real time processing of large amount of signaling traffic for data communication service, and visual information service. In this paper, we suggest two routing algorithms working on the distributed message handling processors which were specially designed for message handling function. The one is an internal distributing algorithm for equal distribution of signaling traffic among the distributed message handling processors and the other is a distributing algorithm for distribution of signaling traffic in the multiple signaling routes. Both of algorithms are using signaling link selection codes labled in each signaling messages. It is shown that the suggested algorithms are very efficient for routing signaling traffic at the fault condition of signaling routes and the restoration of unavailable signaling routes.

  • 802.11p WAVE is the next-generation wireless communication that can make Ad-hoc network communication possible for Vehicle-to-Vehicle. GBSR protocol, one of the 802.11p WAVE protocols, mainly focuses on improvements in networks that have a tendency to disconnect. However, it does not consider the transmission time and velocity of a packet thus, there is a disadvantage of there being a delay in the transmission velocity, in urgent situations like car accidents, emergency patients transportation and crimes. In this paper, we proposed A-GBSR protocol for transmission of a packet to mobile node which has a high speed through the improved beacon message and Adaptive Neighbor list Management that are considering of the GBSR protocol transmission velocity.

  • In typical video streaming services such as MPEG encoded video, the transmission data sizes change depending on the frame types and the required bandwidth for QoS support also changes as time passes. Accordingly, in video streaming services using the Internet it could happen that the video services stop occasionally due to instantaneous deficiencies of the required bandwidth under unexpected congestion even if the highest priority is allocated to the service by network administration. In this paper, we investigate several methods for bandwidth allocation and traffic engineering to support MPEG video traffic and propose a new method to reduce the transmission delay and enhance the throughput, there by provisioning the QoS requirements. In the proposed scheme, LSPs are established based on temporal variation patterns of the Internet traffic and the CQ_LLQ policing scheme is applied for traffic shaping at the ingress routers. Finally we verified the performance of the proposed scheme via computer simulations using OPNET.

  • A medium access control protocol is proposed for integrated voice and data services in the packet CDMA network with a small coverage. Uplink channels are composed of time slots and multiple spreading codes for each slot. This protocol gives higher access priority to the delay-sensitive voice traffic than to the data traffic. During a talkspurt, voice terminals reserve a spreading code to transmit multiple voice packets. On the other hand, whenever generating a data packet, data terminals transmit a packet based on the status information of spreading codes in the current slot, which is received from base station. In this protocol, voice packet does not come into collision with data packet. Therefore, this protocol can increase the maximum number of voice terminals.

  • This paper proposes a blockchain system to share Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) that recently suffers from mutual interference among increasing devices using unlicensed bands. Blockchain technology can induce cooperation from users by incentivizing them with cryptocurrency like shown in Bitcoin example. In this paper, we describe Blockchain based access mechanism in WLAN instead of conventional authentication based access. Here, users can access any WLAN access point by paying through smart contract while they also receive payment from others. In order to support real-time transaction, we apply proof-of-authority that is realized by Byzantine fault tolerant protocol instead of well-known proof-of-work that requires huge computing power and delay.
