This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the synthetic forest road network by calculating the optimal road density and layout of the forest road network in order to construct the systematic road network in the forested area. For this, five comparative routes were additionally planed and compared through evaluation indicators. As a result, the optimum road density of the study site was estimated to be 18.4 m/ha, and the synthetic forest road network was the best in the four indicators such as average skidding distance, standard deviation of skidding distance, development index, and circuity factor. In addition, the synthetic forest road network was comparable to the main road network by about 4 %p in the timber volume available and potential area size for logging, but the construction cost of the road was about 20 %p lower. It showed a synthetic forest road network was better in terms of economy.
New concepts and ideas often result from extensive recombination of existing concepts or ideas. Both researchers and developers build on existing concepts and ideas in published papers or registered patents to develop new theories and technologies that in turn serve as a basis for further development. As the importance of patent increases, so does that of patent analysis. Patent analysis is largely divided into network-based and keyword-based analyses. The former lacks its ability to analyze information technology in details while the letter is unable to identify the relationship between such technologies. In order to overcome the limitations of network-based and keyword-based analyses, this study, which blends those two methods, suggests the keyword network based analysis methodology. In this study, we collected significant technology information in each patent that is related to Light Emitting Diode (LED) through text mining, built a keyword network, and then executed a community network analysis on the collected data. The results of analysis are as the following. First, the patent keyword network indicated very low density and exceptionally high clustering coefficient. Technically, density is obtained by dividing the number of ties in a network by the number of all possible ties. The value ranges between 0 and 1, with higher values indicating denser networks and lower values indicating sparser networks. In real-world networks, the density varies depending on the size of a network; increasing the size of a network generally leads to a decrease in the density. The clustering coefficient is a network-level measure that illustrates the tendency of nodes to cluster in densely interconnected modules. This measure is to show the small-world property in which a network can be highly clustered even though it has a small average distance between nodes in spite of the large number of nodes. Therefore, high density in patent keyword network means that nodes in the patent keyword network are connected sporadically, and high clustering coefficient shows that nodes in the network are closely connected one another. Second, the cumulative degree distribution of the patent keyword network, as any other knowledge network like citation network or collaboration network, followed a clear power-law distribution. A well-known mechanism of this pattern is the preferential attachment mechanism, whereby a node with more links is likely to attain further new links in the evolution of the corresponding network. Unlike general normal distributions, the power-law distribution does not have a representative scale. This means that one cannot pick a representative or an average because there is always a considerable probability of finding much larger values. Networks with power-law distributions are therefore often referred to as scale-free networks. The presence of heavy-tailed scale-free distribution represents the fundamental signature of an emergent collective behavior of the actors who contribute to forming the network. In our context, the more frequently a patent keyword is used, the more often it is selected by researchers and is associated with other keywords or concepts to constitute and convey new patents or technologies. The evidence of power-law distribution implies that the preferential attachment mechanism suggests the origin of heavy-tailed distributions in a wide range of growing patent keyword network. Third, we found that among keywords that flew into a particular field, the vast majority of keywords with new links join existing keywords in the associated community in forming the concept of a new patent. This finding resulted in the same outcomes for both the short-term period (4-year) and long-term period (10-year) analyses. Furthermore, using the keyword combination information that was derived from the methodology suggested by our study enables one to forecast which concepts combine to form a new patent dimension and refer to those concepts when developing a new patent.
This study examines the cruise course network structure in the Asian regions and the centrality of ports using social network analysis (SNA). For network analysis of Asian cruise courses, a data network of cruise courses was constructed using data on courses of cruise ships operating in Asian ports collected from the reports of the Cruise Lines International Associations. There are 249 nodes or ports of ship companies that provide cruise courses to Asia between from October 2015 to June 2016, and these nodes connect 545 ports. Density analysis based on ports where cruise ship companies operated cruise ships showed that, from October 2015 to June 2016, the density was 0.009, which was lower than the average of global port network density (2006 to 2011) and railroad network density. In addition, was calculated to be, which means that connection with all ports was possible through 2,180 steps. In the analysis of the Asian cruise course network centrality, Singapore ranked first in both out-degree and in-degree in connection centrality, followed by Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh, and Keelung. Singapore also ranked first in the result betweenness centrality analysis, followed by Penang, Dubai, and Hong Kong. From October 2015 to June 2016, the port with the highest Eigenvector centrality was Hong Kong, followed by Ho Chi Minh, Singapore, Shanghai, and Danang. In the case of the domestic ports Incheon, Busan, and Jeju, connection centrality, betweenness centrality, and Eigenvector centrality all ranked lower than their competitor Chinese ports.

In the present study, a decision tree and artificial neural network were used to determine critical design parameters for lithium ion batteries and compare their performances. First, a design method that used a decision tree-artificial neural network model was used to determine the major design factors among early pole plate design factors that showed nonlinearity. Then, the artificial neural network was used to implement a weighted value analysis of the importance of the design factors and their effect on the current density. The second method involved the use of an artificial neural network model to construct artificial networks without separate determinations of the major early design factors to analyze the connections and weighted values related to the current density.

The efficient design of a transport protocol contributes to energy conservation as well as performance improvement in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, a node-density-aware transport protocol (NDTP) for intra-cluster transmissions in WSNs for monitoring physical attributes is proposed, which takes node density into account to mitigate congestion in intra-cluster transmissions. In the proposed NDTP, the maximum active time and queue length of cluster heads are restricted to reduce energy consumption. This is mainly because cluster heads do more works and consume more energy than normal sensor nodes. According to the performance evaluation results, the proposed NDTP outperforms the conventional protocol remarkably in terms of network lifetime, congestion frequency, and packet error rate.

Slotless Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) has good control ability but thrust density is low. So, this paper proposes inserted core type of slotless PMLSM to improve its thrust density. Inserting the core between windings of each phase, detent force is generated by the difference of magnetic resistance in an air gap. To minimize detent force, this paper applies the neural network to inserted core type of slotless PMLSM. The, Magnetic pole ratio, the width of the inserted core and the width of the coil are selected as a design parameter to minimize detent force. In comparison with inserted core type one, thrust ripple greatly decreases by minimizing detent force and also thrust increases in this optimal model.

A geographical routing protocol is typically utilized for a route selection of VANET. Even if it is conceptually well adapted into VANET, message delivery tends to be unreliable with frequent network partitions, which mainly come from the inherent characteristics such as high mobility and irregular traffic density. In this paper, we deal with a method to enable reliable message delivery with reflecting the traffic density on routing decision. By concatenating the message delivery cost of each of inbetween junction section, $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ shortest paths are initially determined. When it is not possible to deliver the message on a junction on the 1st path, we utilize two novel ideas, that is, letting the message stay on the junction to find out a new relay node, and putting a replicated copy to reach via a detour path. By using the NS-2 network simulator, our method has been examined in terms of message delivery rate and delay. It shows that our method is much efficient than the other method in the low density environment, while it brings similar results in the high density environment.
This study used high density network of integrated meteorological sensor, which are operated by SK Planet, with KMA weather stations to estimate the quantitative precipitation field in Seoul area. We introduced SK Planet network and analyzed quality of the observed data for 3 months data from 1 July to 30 September 2013. As the quality analysis result, we checked most SK Planet stations observed similar with previous KMA stations. We developed the real-time quality check and adjustment method to reduce the error effect for hydrological application by missing and outlier value and we confirmed the developed method can be corrected the missing and outlier value. Through this method, we used the 190 stations(KMA 34 stations, SK Planet 156 stations) that missing ratio is less than 20% and the effect of the outlier was the smallest for quantitative precipitation estimation. Moreover, we evaluated reproducibility of rainfall field high density rain gauge network has $3km^2$/gauge. As the result, the spatial relative frequency of rainfall field using SK Planet and KMA stations is similar with radar rainfall field. And, it supplement the blank of KMA observation network. Especially, through this research we will take advantage of the density of the network to estimate rainfall field which can be considered as a very good approximation of the true value.

The population growth along with the urbanization, has caused more problems in many public areas, such as subway airport terminals, hospital, etc. Many surveillance systems have been installed in the public areas, but not all of those can be monitored in real-time, because the operators that observe the monitors are very small compared with the number of the monitors. For example, the observer can miss some crucial accidents or detect after considerable delays. Thus, intelligent surveillance system for preventing the accidents are needed, such as Intelligent Surveillance Systems. in this paper, we propose a new crowd density estimation method which aims at estimating moving crowd using images from surveillance cameras situated in outdoor locations. The moving crowd is estimated from the area where using optical flow. The edge information is also used as feature to measure the crowd density, so we improve the accuracy of estimation of crowd density. A multilayer neural network is designed to classify crowd density into 5 classes. Finally the proposed method is experimented with PETS 2009 images.

This paper derives two main end-to-end performance metrics, namely the spatial capacity density and the average end-to-end delay of the multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks with multi-antenna communications. Based on the closed-form expressions of these performance metrics, three hopping strategies, i.e., the closest neighbor, the furthest neighbor and the randomly selected neighbor hopping strategies have been investigated. This formulation provides insights into the relations among node density, diversity gains, number of hops and some other network design parameters which jointly determine network performances, and a method of choosing the best hopping strategy which can be formulated from a network design perspective.
