  • In this paper an asymptotic numerical method named as Initial Value Method (IVM) is suggested to solve the singularly perturbed weakly coupled system of reaction-diffusion type second order ordinary differential equations with negative shift (delay) terms. In this method, the original problem of solving the second order system of equations is reduced to solving eight first order singularly perturbed differential equations without delay and one system of difference equations. These singularly perturbed problems are solved by the second order hybrid finite difference scheme. An error estimate for this method is derived by using supremum norm and it is of almost second order. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • A novel a-Si TFT integrated gate driver circuit which suppresses the threshold voltage shift due to prolonged positive gate bias to pull-down TFTs, is reported. Negative gate-to-drain bias is applied alternately to the pull-down TFTs to recover the threshold voltage shift. Consequently, the stability of the circuit has been improved considerably.

  • Density gradient method is used to analyze the quantum effect in MOSFET, Quantization effect in the poly gate leads to a negative threshold voltage shift, which is opposed to the positive shift caused by quantization effect in the channel. Quantization effects in the poly gate are investigated using the density gradient method, and the impact on the short channel effect of double gate device is more significant.

  • While many eukaryotic and some prokaryotic proteins show a phosphorylation-dependent mobility shift (PDMS) on SDS-PAGE, the molecular mechanism for this phenomenon had not been elucidated. We have recently shown that the distribution of negatively charged amino acids around the phosphorylation site is important for the PDMS of some proteins. Here, we show that replacement of the phosphorylation site with a negatively charged amino acid results in a similar degree of the mobility shift of a protein as phosphorylation, indicating that the PDMS is due to the introduction of a negative charge by phosphorylation. Compared with a protein showing no shift, one showing a retarded mobility on SDS-PAGE had a decreased capacity for SDS binding. The elucidation of the consensus sequence (${\Theta}X_{1-3}{\Theta}X_{1-3}{\Theta}$, where ${\Theta}$ corresponds to an acidic function) for a PDMS suggests a general strategy for mutagenizing a phosphorylatable protein resulting in a PDMS.

  • Recently, most vehicles has the Automatic transmission system as their transmission system. The automatic transmission system operates with fixed shift patterns. In the opposite of manual operation, it is easy and convenient for driving. Though these merit, the system can not evaluate the driver's intension because of usage of firmed shift pattern. Especially, when the load has declination the AT system must operate for engine break effect. Namely, if the vehicle drives on the load of decrease, the acceleration of the vehicle goes to high then. At that time, the shift goes to down position the vehicle has some negative acceleration with the resistance of engine. To consider driver's intension in this case, we must consider both the driving intensity of driver and the status of load. In this paper, we developed flexible automatic transmission system by using the proposed moduled neural networks which can learn the status of the load and driver's intensity As a result, we compare the transmission system using firmed shift pattern and the proposed transmission system and show the good performance in the change of shift position.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the level of depression among female hospital nurses and the influence of rotating shift work and quality of sleep on depression. A total of 295 nurses in Seoul were recruited and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The number of depressed nurses was 71.2%(CES-D total score ≥ 16) and factors influenced on nurses' depression were quality of sleep, rotating shift work, and work experience in nursing(1-2.9 years, more than 10 years). Based on the result of this study, nurse managers and hospital organization should use appropriate interventions to improve quality of sleep and negative effects of rotating shift work for nurses.

  • This paper presents a human motion recognition method using both centroid shift and local basis images. The centroid shift based on 1st moment balance technique is applied to get the robust motion images against position or size changes, the extraction of local basis images based on independent component analysis(ICA) is also applied to find a set of statistically independent motion features, which is included in each motions. Especially, ICA of fixed-point(FP) algorithm based on Newton method is used for being quick to extract a local basis images of motions. The proposed method has been applied to the problem for recognizing the 160(1 person * 10 animals * 16 motions) sign language motion images of 240*215 pixels. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performances(speed, rate) than the method using local eigen images and the method using local basis images without centroid shift respectively.

  • The degradation phenomena induced by hot-carrier injection was studied from the shift of threshold voltage and subthreshold current curve in LDD NMOSFET degraded under different DC stress-biases. Threshold voltage shift ${Delta}V_{tex}$ defined in saturation region was separated into contri butions due to trapped oxide charge $V_{ot}$ and interface traps ${Delta}V_{it}$ generated from midgap to threshold voltage. Under th positive stress electric field (TEX>$V_g>V_d$) condition, the shift of threshold voltage was attributed to the electrons traped ar gate oxide but subthreshold swing was not negative stress electric field ($V_g) condition, holes seems to be injected positive charges so threshold voltage and subthreshold swing were increased.

  • Objectives: To assess the validity of the vertical tube-shift method using intraoral periapical radiography (IOPAR) for determining the relationship between the mandibular third molar roots and the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) canal in comparison with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Fifty impacted mandibular third molars were analyzed using the IOPAR vertical tube-shift method and CBCT. The relationship of the IAN canal to the impacted mandibular third molar was recorded as buccal, lingual or in line with the apex and was compared with CBCT findings. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of the vertical tube-shift method in depicting the relationship (buccal/lingual/in line with the apex) of the IAN canal to the third molar root apex was calculated. Results: The sensitivity and specificity PPV and NPV of the IOPAR vertical tube-shift technique was found to be highest for a lingual relationship (100%) followed by buccal (94.4%, 92.3%, 97.1%, and 85.7%) and in line with the apex relationship (88.9%, 95.0%, 80.0%, and 97.4%) of the IAN canal with the third molar root apex, respectively. A statistically significant association was observed between the IOPAR vertical tube-shift method and the CBCT with a P-value <0.01. Conclusion: The vertical tube-shift method can be used as an effective diagnostic tool in assessing the relationship of the IAN canal to the third molar root apex with high sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV.

  • SiOC films containing alkyl groups have a low dielectric constant because of the interaction between the C-H hydrogen bonds and the oxygen of high electro-negative atom. The Si-$CH_3$ in a void is broken by the $O_2$, therefore the strength of CH bond in Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond increases. The Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond is broken by nucleophilic attack due to Si atom, again. The elongation of C-H bond causes the red shift, and the compression of C-H bond causes the blue shift. Among these chemical shifts, the blue shift from $1000\;cm^{-1}$ to $1250\;cm^{-1}$ was related with the formation of pores. If the oxygen is deficient condition, the methylradicals of the electron-rich substitution group terminate easily the Si-O-Si cross-link, and the pore is originated from the cross-link breakdown due to much methyl radicals of Si-$CH_3$. The dielectric constant of the films decreases due to pore generation.
