In addition, social network analysis was conducted using divided positive and negative comments, and the results of centrality analysis and visualization were confirmed. Findings Social media users' opinions on issue news were confirmed by analyzing and visualizing the centrality of keywords through social network analysis by dividing comments into positive and negative. • Previous research has empirically demonstrated the negative effects of social media use on young people's psychological well-being. Unlike most previous studies that focused on either Facebook or Instagram, this study comparatively examined the differences in upward comparison and its effects on self-esteem, life satisfaction, and depression between Facebook and Instagram. An analysis of survey data from 641 Korean college students, who reportedly use these two social media more actively than any other age group, found that college students experience more upward comparisons on Instagram than on Facebook. Upward comparisons on both Facebook and Instagram increased by college students' age and weekly usage time. Upward comparisons on Instagram increased by the additional factors of gender (females more than males) and number of "followings." Subsequently, the effects of upward comparison on psychological well-being were found to differ by social media platform. Upward comparisons were found to negatively impact all determinants of psychological well-being only on Instagram, but not on Facebook. The differences in upward comparison and its impact on young users' psychological well-being found in this study were discussed in terms of the different functional characteristics of the two social media platforms, which provides direction for further research needed to establish guidelines for healthy social media use by young people.

  • This study investigated the impact of appearance pressure from celebrities' social media upon internalization of mesomorphic ideal and muscularity dissatisfaction and the moderating role of time spent on social media in the relationships among variables in a sample of young Korean men (N=247). Those men who regularly participate in physical activities more than three times a week were included in our sample. Structural equation modeling analysis revealed that celebrities' social media pressure directly influenced both internalization and muscularity dissatisfaction, and internalization predicted muscularity dissatisfaction. A significant mediating effect of internalization in the relationships between celebrities' social media pressure and muscularity dissatisfaction was found. However, the moderating effect of time spent on social media was not found. The present results highlight the significant and negative effects of celebrities' social media on male's body image perception. By comparing the results of this study to previous studies, we can anticipate that the effects of social media on users' body image concerns can differ between male and female in the matter of time spent on social media. Implications of the study results and suggestions for future studies are discussed.

  • As more consumers are interested in sustainability issues and evaluate brands based on their social responsibility issues involved, firms are using social media platforms in order to communicate with consumers about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. However, the current literature focuses mostly on factors drive engagement of promotional messages, while little evidence was found in the literature on how to design effective CSR messages on social media to engage consumers. Using over 3,000 branded posts on Facebook and Twitter, this research explores factors that help CSR messages become more engaging in social media. The results show that, on average, CSR messages had a negative significant effect on consumer engagement. However, CSR messages became more engaging when designed with emotional appeals, longer texts, and a hashtag. While marginal, CSR messages with informational appeals and humor undermined the effect of CSR messages on engagement. Finally, we explore different types of CSR messages by their beneficiary scope and the role of brands in the message and discuss what message contents drive more engagement in social media. This research contributes to the academic literature and managers by providing new insights on how to design CSR messages for effective communications in social media.
