  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of adolescents' need on their attitudes to aesthetic surgery and clothing. Subjects were 627 middle and high school students. In this statistical analysis, SPSS 10.0 for Windows Program was used to calculate percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Also, these data were verified by Factor analysis, t-test, One-way Anova, Duncan' multiple range, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of this research were as follows: Adolescents with higher need for achievement showed negative attitudes toward the secret and risk of aesthetic surgery. On the other hand, those with higher need for dominance and exhibition were in favor of the surgery and willing to have it despite its high cost and risk. Individuality of clothing was directly affected by need for achievement and dominance. Adolescents with higher need for achievement and dominance considered individuality as one of the most important factors. And sexual attractiveness of clothing had a positive correlation with both need for dominance and exhibition. Such a fact leaded that adolescents with higher need for dominance and exhibition considered sexual attractiveness as one of the most important factors, along with individuality. As a conclusion, adolescents' need play an important role in explaining the recently observed trends among adolescents in aesthetic surgery attitude and clothing attitude.

A series of repeated measure MANOVAs were used to test variability in pre-service elementary school teachers' stereotypical attitude across foreign groups. They rated Japanese the most positive, but Chinese the most negative, and others more or less positive in overall attitude. Their ratings of each ethnic group also varied across four attitude factors. Japanese and Whites were classified into the most attractive and superior, and moderately rational and aggressive groups. In contrast, Chinese were rated as the most unattractive, inferior, irrational, and moderately aggressive one. Southeast Asians were rated as attractive, compliant, and inferior one. In contrast, Arabians were rated as unattractive, aggressive, and moderately superior one. Finally, North Koreans were rated moderately superior, the most aggressive and irrational one. All these findings were discussed in terms of multicultural education in Korea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of knowledge and attitude to temptation toward cigarette smoking in adolescents. Methods: A survey was conducted using a 52-item questionnaire in 2 high school settings. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, post hoc analysis and Pearson correlation coefficients were used with SPSS WIN version 14.0 to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in attitude toward smoking and smoking temptation depending on gender, academic performance, religion, current smoking status, parental responses toward smoking, initiation of smoking, and the number of friends who smoke (p<.001). The level of smoking knowledge was not related to any of general characteristics as well as attitude toward smoking and smoking temptation. However, negative attitude toward smoking was moderately correlated with reduced smoking temptation (r=-.608, p<.001). Conclusion: Adolescents' attitude toward smoking and coping ability against smoking temptation were influenced by various factors related to smoking behavior and social situations, rather than by the level of smoking knowledge. In order to develop an effective smoking prevention and cessation program for adolescents, various strategies to change attitudes toward smoking should be included.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify an attitude toward menstruation, perimenstrual symptoms, and coping used by female college students. Methods: A convenience sample of 151 students was obtained from two nursing colleges in Mokpo and Gwangju. Data were collected through questionnaires from June 15 to June 28, 2005. Three instruments were used in this study, the menstrual symptoms, menstrual attitude, and menstrual coping. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation using SPSS 10.0 program. Results: The results showed that most 3rd and 4th year students complained about discomfort during their perimenstrual period, had a negative attitude toward menstruation due to the discomfort, but coped well during the period even with a lot of discomfort. With this results, there is a need for a nursing mediator to provide relief for discomfort during perimenstrual period so college female students have a positive attitude toward menstruation. There is a need for further research to determine the relationship between other variables and discomfort during the perimenstrual period. It is also needed to investigate if there are differences in these variables studied according to ages and occupations in women. Conclusion: From these findings, problem solving strategies for menstrual symptoms, positive attitudes, and coping should be a comprehensive approach to a nursing intervention to help women.

Most of the students were concerned about their body image and weight control. The obesity of the parents correlated significantly with the obesity of the subjects. The higher the obesity rate, the lower the dietary attitude and dietary self-efficacy. There was a significant positive correlation between the education level of their mothers and the dietary attitude of the subjects and a significant negative correlation between the obesity rate of the subjects and their. dietary attitudes. Dietary attitude scores showed no significant difference among the groups. Intakes of calories, protein, calcium and iron were lower than those of the Korean recommended dietary allowances (RDAs). • Objective : To find a collaboration strategy between western medicine and traditional Korean medicine (KM), this study aims to figure out the changes in the perception and attitude of medical doctors toward KM through systematic review. Method : Systematic literature searches were performed on six Korean databases. Studies were categorized according to the respondents and question items and analyzed by the context of questions, similarity of respondents and measurement scale. And we analyzed the changes of response regarding to medical doctors' and medical students' perspective and attitude to KM. Results : Eighteen survey studies including attitude of medical doctors and medical students toward KM were selected, which were conducted from 1993 to 2011. Although the attitude toward KM did not show any positive change, medical doctors have had more interest in acupuncture than herbal medicine and appreciated KM's treatment effect for musculoskeletal disease. In spite of little KM education experience, they had intentions for acupuncture education at least. Many medical doctors have listed the unscientific aspect as a major reason why they cannot trust KM. Medical doctors working for cooperative practice showed more positive attitude than other medical doctors and medical students had more positive attitude in general than medical doctors Conclusion : Though the growth of KM service and cooperative practice since 1990s, medical doctors' attitude toward KM seems to become more negative. To improve their attitude, making scientific evidences for KM is required as well as giving more education and treatment experience.
