  • A patient (Pointer+Viszula mixed breed, 4 months old, male), with chief historic sign of acute vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea, anorexia and dyspnea during 4 days was admitted to College of Veterinary Medicine, Kyungpook National University. Necropsy findings were revealed ulcer and hemorrhage contained hemorrhagic diarrhea in gastrointestinal tract, severe emphysema and hemorrhage in the lung and kidney and cardiac hypertropy. Histopathological changes showed emphysema, hyperemia and hemorrhage in the lung, severe hyperemia, hemorrhage, hepatic vacuolation and cellular necrosis in the liver, hyperemia, hemorrhage, necrosis of tubular epithelium in the kidney, hemorrhage in cardiac muscle and hyperemia, necrosis and sloughing of epithelium in the intestine. Histopathological diagnosis was made as paraquat poisoning.

  • An intact female, 2 month old, domestic short hair cat, weighing 0.82kg with a history of respiratory distress, anorexia, and depression for 3 days was referred. In laboratory examination, there were no remarkable abnormalities. Radiographic findings mainly included pleural effusion, dilation of pulmonary vessels, pulmonary edema, and ascites. Echocardiography showed dilation of four cardiac chambers, malformation of the tricuspid and mitral valve, and atrioventricular valve regurgitant jet flow. The cat was euthanized by client's request and confirmed to the tricuspid and mitral valve dysplasia by necropsy and histopathologic examination.

  • Two dogs were referred due to vomiting, depression and anorexia after ingestion of xylitol gum. Both dogs were presented with hepatic failure and one dog had concurrent renal failure. Aggressive supportive treatment was performed, but these dogs died. Necropsy of one dog revealed acute hepatic necrosis, severe renal damages, and hemoperitoneum. This case report demonstrates potential hazard of xylitol toxicity for dogs with clinicopathological and pathological findings.

  • An aged (14 years old) female snow leopard exhibited renal calculi and pyelonephritis at necropsy. The animal experienced appetite loss, mild diarrhea, polydipsia, and difficulty breathing, and was curled up and staggering on its hind legs 2 days before death. Large calculi were found obstructing both sides of the renal pelvis. The left-side calculus was larger than that of the right side. These calculi had rough surfaces and were $15{\times}21mm$ and $9{\times}14mm$, respectively. The bladder was filled with dark, cloudy urine. Multiple ulcerous lesions were found in the inner layer of the bladder. Enterococcus faecalis and Proteus mirabili were identified via microbiological examination of the urine. Under microscopic examination, urine struvites were observed in the pyuria sediment in the bladder. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of nephrolithiasis in a captive snow leopard.

  • This article reports a spontaneous thoracic teratoma in a laying hen (Deklb brown warren). In this case, a 40 days old hen was submitted for necropsy as part of an investigation into a flock problem suspected Marek's disease to Chonbuk Veterinary Service Laboratory in 1983. On the gross finding, mass was In the cranial subpulmonary cavity and attached to the vertebral column. It contained fully developed contour feathers. Histologically, feathers were arised from feather follicles complete with arrector plumi muscle, nerve, vessel and mucous gland composed with simple tall columnar epithelium. The outer surface of mass was lined by keratinized or nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium. It converted to pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium in some area. There were lymphocyte infiltration around gland tissue and eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in nonkeratinized epithelium. This thoracic teratoma was composed of ectodermal origin, squamous epithelium and nerve, and endodermal origin, mucous gland. This case in laying hen has never been reported in the literature in the world.

  • An adult male rhesus monkey (Macaca mulata) developed anorexia, ataxia, dullness, coughing, and some elevated body temperature and died a week after the initiation of such symptoms. At necropsy the monkey's physical condition was found to be normal. Body weight was 18.3kg and the only notable gross lesion was the appearance of acute pneumonia with multiple nodules. Histopathologic observation of the tissues obtained from this animal revealed the features of acute primary pulmonary blastomycosis.

  • A male sika deer, 3 years old, which had the clinical history of chronic watery diarrhea with severe emaciation for 4 months was submitted and euthanized. On necropsy, there was diffuse mucosal hypertrophy of gastrointestinal tract with thickened intestinal walls and swollen mesenteric lymph nodes. In histologic lesions. diffuse proliferation of epithelioid cells are present in the laminar propria, submucosa muscle layer and subserosa of most gastroinlestinal organs except omasum. These epithelioid cells are also present in the cortex and medulla of meseriteric lymph nodes and in the portal triads of liver. Most these epithelioid cells contain acid-fast positive bacilli using Ziehl-Neelsen staining in the cytoplasm. Based on the clinical signs, gross findings and histological lesions, this deer was diagnosed as paratuberculosis. The wide range of target organs and the severity of the lesions observed in this case is quite different comparing to those of other ruminant.

  • LBD-005, a newly developed recombinant granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, was at dose levels of 0, 20, 80 and 320ng/kg/day administered subcutaneously to pregnat New Zealand White rabbits during the organogenetic period. The dams were subjected to caesarean section on day 28 of pregnancy. Effects of test substance on dams and embryonal development of fetuses were examined. No treatment-related changes in clinical signs and necropsy findings of dams were observed in all groups. At 80 and 320 ng/kg, a significant decrease in food consumption followed by a loss in body weight was found.
