Performance Evaluation of Multi-User Detectors Employing Subtractive Interference Cancellation Schemes for a DS-CDMA System (감산형 간섭제거기법을 적용한 DS-CDMA 다중사용자 검파기의 성능분석)

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of multi-user detectors employing SIC(Successive Interference Cancellation) and PIC (Parallel Interference Cancellation) which are the representative schemes in the subtractive interference cancellation. We have considered the MUD structure employing HIC (Hybrid Interference Cancellation) which combines SIC with PIC scheme, and then analyzed the BER performance. We have evaluated the BER performance of SIC and HIC schemes which execute the soft decision to generate the tentative data bit for the purpose of the interference cancellation in MAI and noise environments. Through the numerical analysis and computer simulation, it is shown that HIC can remove the effect of MAI more efficiently than the others, that improve the BER performance and increase the capacity of DS-CDMA systems regardless of the power control conditions. The reason is that the SIC scheme in front of HIC can solve the near-far problem caused by the imperfect power control and PIC scheme in the rear of it can improve the performance much more.

Surface Plasmon Nanooptics in Plasmonic Band Gap Structures: Interference of Polarization Controlled Surface Waves in the Near Field

  • Nanoscopic emission from periodic nano-hole arrays in thick metal films is studied experimentally. The experiments give direct evidence for SP excitations in such structures. We show that the symmetry of the emission is governed by polarization and its shape is defined the interference of SP waves of different diffraction orders. Near-Held pattern analysis combined with the far-Held reflection and transmission measurements suggests that the SP eigenmodes of these arrays may be understood as those of ionic plasmon molecules.

  • In this paper, adaptive minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) multiuser detector combined with decision-feedback detector (DFD) is considered fur near-far resistant DS-CDMA system. To provide a reliable input to the adaptive MMSE detector, multiple-access interference (MAI) is regenerated using bit estimates from DFD and subtracted from the received signal. In the adaptive MMSE detector, the effect of the imperfect cancellation is compensated by a least mean square (LMS) algorithm. Through the numerical results, it is shown that, in a near-far situation, the proposed scheme provides superior performance to the matched filter (MF) receiver, adaptive MMSE detector, and DFD in terms of the bit error rate (BER).

  • In this paper, the effect of Near-Far Problem (NFP) among distributed nodes in OFDMA-based Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) is analyzed by investigating statistical characteristics of Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) and Desired-to-Undesired power Ratio (DUR). In order to overcome the effects of Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI), Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI), and Inter Link Interference (ILI), caused by TDoA in WMNs, we derive effective SINR for each subcarrier, and then, propose the optimal starting point of FFT window which can minimize BER for each subcarrier. In addition, we propose a subcarrier-based Zero Forcing - 2 Dimensional Ordered Successive Interference Cancellation (ZF-2DOSIC) technique for signal detection in WMNs with TDoA. It is verified by simulation that the effective SINR and uncoded BER performances of the proposed signal detection technique for OFDMA-based WMNs are significantly improved, compared with those of conventional technique.

A Study on Blind Adaptive Interference Suppression for DS-CDMA systems (DS-CDMA 시스템을 위한 블라인드 적응 간섭 억제에 관한 연구)

  • Since the cross-correlation function which is due to communication channel distortion or interference is not orthogonal, near far problem and multi-user interference are generated in the DS-CDMA system. Those problems degrade performance of the system so that the efficient algorithm to suppress the interference in the DS-CDMA system is required. In this paper, a blind adaptive interference suppressor using constant modulus algorithm is proposed. Simulation results present that the gain of SIR for the blind adaptive receiver is about 7[dB] at steady state over Gaussian channel in forward channel. The gain of noise to interference ration is about 4[dB] over Rayleigh fading channel, is about 11[dB] over multipath channels. Thus the proposed receiver has higher performance than a conventional receiver in the DS-CDMA system.

EMI Prediction of Slew-Rate Controlled I/O Buffers by Full-Wave and Circuit Co-Simulation

  • In this paper, a modeling and co-simulation methodology is proposed to predict the radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) from on-chip switching I/O buffers. The output waveforms of I/O buffers are simulated including the on-chip I/O buffer circuit and the RC extracted on-chip interconnect netlist, package, and printed circuit board (PCB). In order to accurately estimate the EMI, a full-wave 3D simulation is performed including the measurement environment. The simulation results are compared with near-field electromagnetic scan results and far-field measurements from an anechoic chamber, and the sources of emission peaks were analyzed. For accurate far-field EMI simulation, PCB power trace models considering IC switching current paths and external power cable models must be considered for accurate EMI prediction. With the proposed EMI simulation model and flow, the electromagnetic compatibility can be tested even before the IC is fabricated.

  • It is expected that device-to-device (D2D) communication is allowed to underlay future cellular networks such as IMT-Advanced for spectrum efficiency. This article studies the mechanisms of D2D communication and interference avoidance when the D2D subsystem reuses uplink resources and downlink spectrums with a cellular system, respectively. We firstly propose an effective scheme to establish and maintain D2D communication. Moreover, a novel method to deal with the resource allocation and interference avoidance issues by utilizing the network peculiarity of a hybrid network to share the uplink resource is proposed. Most research focuses on reusing the uplink spectrums, but how to share the downlink frequency bands is seldom addressed. To share the downlink spectrums and avoid the interference to the primary cellular devices, a labeled time slots based mechanism is proposed. Implementation details are described in a real cellular system and simulation results prove that satisfying performance can be achieved by using the proposed mechanisms.

  • We simulate the light transmission through an extremely small nanoscale aperture having a 10 nm diameter punctured in a metal film positioned at the center of a plasmonic bull's eye grating. A considerable directive emission of transmitted light with a divergence angle of 5.7 degrees was observed at $10{\mu}m$ from the nanohole opening at the frequency of surface plasmon polariton excitation, an confirmed by measuring the distance dependent transmission amplitude. Observations of the electric field in cross-sectional, near-field, and far-field views near-field enhancement associated with the surface plasmon excitation, and the interference of the electric field light through the nanohole in the near-field region is responsible for such a considerable directive emission.

  • A spread spectrum(ss) communication system has a lot of advantage, such as realzation of asynchronous code division multiplexing(CDM), robutness to narrow-band interference, impulse noise, privacy function, and so on. We have considered utilization of these advantage to develop a local area network(LAN) using such a transmission channel as power-line. In a power-line, however, restricted bandwidth under the law makes it difficult to carry out CDM, and in a radio channel the sysstem has a near-far problem. These problems originate in co-channel interference, which is due to cross-correlation among pseudo-noise sequences of every channel in CDM. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of easily cancelling co-channel interference and investigate its performance by constructing a LAN using SS technique.

  • In this paper, we propose a time constant control method for sieving local minimum problem of the multiuser detector using Hopfield neural network for synchronous multi-rate code division multiple access(CDMA) system in selective fading environments and its performance is compared with that of the parallel interference cancellation(PIC). We also assume that short scrambling codes of 256 chip length are used an uplink, suggest a simple correlation estimation algorithm and circuit complexity reduction method by using cyclostationarity property of short scrambling code.It is verified that multiuser detector using Hopfield neural network more efficiently cancels multiple access interference(MAI) and obtain better bit error rate and near-far resistant than conventional detector.
