  • We present wide-field near-IR imaging polarimetry of 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud, using the InfraRed Survey Facility (IRSF). We obtained polarimetry data in J, H, and Ks bands using the JHKs-simultaneous imaging polarimeter SIRPOL. Since many Galactic field stars along the line-of-sight to the Large Magellanic Cloud are contaminated in our data, we developed methods to identify the foreground sources using the proper motion data. We investigated polarimetric properties between the Galactic foreground stars and the stars in the LMC.

  • In this paper, we propose a loss function in CNN that introduces inter-class amplitudes to increase inter-class loss and reduce intra-class loss to increase of face recognition performance. This loss function increases the distance between the classes and decreases the distance in the class, thereby improving the performance of the face recognition finally. It is confirmed that the accuracy of face recognition for visible light image of proposed loss function is 99.62%, which is better than other loss functions. We also applied it to face recognition of visible and near-infrared complex images to obtain satisfactory results of 99.76%.

우선, RapidEye 영상으로부터 NIR(Near InfraRed) 밴드 영상과 NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) 영상을 생성한 뒤, 이를 각각의 파라미터로 설정한다.

  • Near InfraRed Spectroscopy(NIRS) is a quick and accurate analytical method to measure multiple components in tobacco manufacturing process. This study was carried out to develop calibration equation of near infrared spectroscopy for the prediction of the amount of chemical components and hot water solubles(HWS) of reconstituted tobacco leaf. Calibration samples of reconstituted tobacco leaf were collected from every lot produced during one year. The calibration equation was formulated as modified partial least square regression method (MPLS) by analyzing laboratory actual values and mathematically pre-treated spectra. The accuracy of the acquired equation was confirmed with the standard error of prediction(SEP) of chemical components in reconstituted tobacco leaf samples, indicated as coefficient of determination($R^2$) and prediction error of sample unacquainted, followed by the verification of model equation of laboratory actual values and these predicted results. As a result of monitoring, the standard error of prediction(SEP) were 0.25 % for total sugar, 0.03 % for nicotine, 0.03 % for chlorine, 0.16 % for nitrate, and 0.38 % for hot water solubles. The coefficient of determination($R^2$) were 0.98 for total sugar, 0.97 for nicotine, 0.96 for chlorine, 0.98 for nitrate and 0.92 for hot water solubles. Therefore, the NIRS calibration equation can be applicable and reliable for determination of chemical components of reconstituted tobacco leaf, and NIRS analytical method could be used as a rapid and accurate quality control method.

  • The development and evolution of near infra-red spectroscopic (NIS) calibrations for high-moisture materials is an expensive proposition. Such investment is suspect unless the instrument, or instruments, on which calibrations were developed can be preserved intact or re-standardized as component replacements occurs. The objective of this paper is to detail the changes in performance of a six-year old instrument after maintenance in years five and six resulted in collection of spectral data that was increasingly removed from the calibration population. Calibrations for the analysis of mature sugarcane stalks, a high-moisture material, were developed successfully in 1995 using a broad sample population in terms of genetics, and spectral and temporal variation. The spectral library was further broadened in 1996. In 1997, 1999, 1999, and 2000, additional samples constituting 10% of the laboratories throughput were subjected to full component analyses using routine laboratory techniques. These samples were primarily random samples, but were complemented with samples that were significant for the spectral H statistic or for the component t statistic. In 1998, an additional calibration was developed for populations consisting of samples of either mature stalks (culms) or sucker culms. Substantial additional samples numbers were collected for this calibration in 1999 and 2000. Attempts to standardize the scanning spectrophotometer used for these calibrations with a second similar instrument in 1999 failed because the instruments were optically different, and standardization could not account for this. Maintenance adjustments were made to the remote reflectance probe of the original instrument in 1999, and replacement of its PbS detectors was done in 2000. Spectral data collected in 1999 and 2000 yielded spectral populations that were increasingly removed from the respective spectral populations on which the calibrations were developed. The mature stalk calibrations benefited marginally from evolutionary calib.

  • Near infra-red (NIR) spectroscopy has been used for the non-invasive assessment of intact fruit for eating quality attributes such as total soluble solids (TSS) content. However, little information is available in the literature with respect to the robustness of such calibration models validated against independent populations (however, see Peiris et al. 1998 and Guthrie et al. 1998). Many studies report ‘prediction’ statistics in which the calibration and prediction sets are subsets of the same population (e. g. a three year calibration validated against a set from the same population, Peiris et al. 1998; calibration and validation subsets of the same initial population, Guthrie and Walsh 1997 and McGlone and Kawano 1998). In this study, a calibration was developed across 84 melon fruit (R$^2$= 0.86$^{\circ}$Brix, SECV = 0.38$^{\circ}$Brix), which predicted well on fruit excluded from the calibration set but taken from the same population (n = 24, SEP = 0.38$^{\circ}$Brix with 0.1$^{\circ}$Brix bias), relative to an independent group (same variety and farm but different harvest date) (n = 24, SEP= 0.66$^{\circ}$ Brix with 0.1$^{\circ}$Brix bias). Prediction on a different variety, different growing district and time was worse (n = 24, SEP = 1.2$^{\circ}$Brix with 0.9$^{\circ}$Brix bias). Using an ‘in-line’ unit based on a silicon diode array spectrometer, as described in Walsh et al. (2000), we collected spectra from fruit populations covering different varieties, growing districts and time. The calibration procedure was optimized in terms of spectral window, derivative function and scatter correction. Performance of a calibration across new populations of fruit (different varieties, growing districts and harvest date) is reported. Various calibration sample selection techniques (primarily based on Mahalanobis distances), were trialled to structure the calibration population to improve robustness of prediction on independent sets. Optimization of calibration population structure (using the ISI protocols of neighbourhood and global distances) resulted in the elimination of over 50% of the initial data set. The use of the ISI Local Calibration routine was also investigated.

  • In this paper, I present the domestic development of near infrared camera systems for the ground telescope and the space satellite. These systems are the first infrared instruments made for astronomical observation in Korea. KASINICS (KASI Near Infrared Camera System) was developed to be installed on the 1.8m telescope of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) in Korea. KASINICS is equipped with a $512{\times}512$ InSb array enable L band observations as well as J, H, and Ks bands. The field-of-view of the array is $3.3'{\times}3.3'$ with a resolution of 0.39"/pixel. It employs an Offner relay optical system providing a cold stop to eliminate thermal background emission from the telescope structures. From the test observation, limiting magnitudes are J=17.6, H=17.5, Ks=16.1 and L(narrow)=10.0 mag at a signal-to-noise ratio of 10 in an integration time of 100 s. MIRIS (Multi-purpose InfraRed Imaging System) is the main payload of the STSAT-3 in Korea. MIRIS Space Observation Camera (SOC) covers the observation wavelength from $0.9{\mu}m$ to $2.0{\mu}m$ with a wide field of view $3.67^{\circ}{\times}3.67^{\circ}$. The PICNIC HgCdTe detector in a cold box is cooled down below 100K by a micro Stirling cooler of which cooling capacity is 220mW at 77K. MIRIS SOC adopts passive cooling technique to chill the telescope below 200K by pointing to the deep space (3K). The cooling mechanism employs a radiator, a Winston cone baffle, a thermal shield, MLI of 30 layers, and GFRP pipe support in the system. Opto-mechanical analysis was made in order to estimate and compensate possible stresses from the thermal contraction of mounting parts at cryogenic temperatures. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of mechanical structure was also conducted to ensure safety and stability in launching environments and in orbit. MIRIS SOC will mainly perform the Galactic plane survey with narrow band filters (Pa $\alpha$ and Pa $\alpha$ continuum) and CIB (Cosmic Infrared Background) observation with wide band filters (I and H) driven by a cryogenic stepping motor.

  • We compiled a near-infrared photometric and polarimetric catalog of $5{\times}9$ fields (${\sim}39^{\prime}{\times}69^{\prime}$) in the eastern side of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). This catalog contains 9067 sources brighter than 16 mag in the J, H, and Ks bands, the polarization degree and position angle of each source. The photometric and polarimetric data were simultaneously obtained in J, H, and Ks bands using SIRPOL, an imaging polarimeter of the InfraRed Survey Facility (IRSF), in 2008 December and 2011 December. In this poster, we present a comparison between our results and those of Nakajima et al. (2007, PASJ, 59, 519) on the same sources in the 30 Doradus region in the LMC. We also discuss possible uncertainties in our polarimetric results when the Source Extractor is used to measure aperture photometry.

  • We analyzed spectral data of the astrophysical diffuse emission obtained with the low-resolution spectroscopy mode on the AKARI InfraRed Camera (IRC) in the $1.8-5.3{\mu}m$ wavelength region. Advanced reduction methods specialized for slit spectroscopy of diffuse sky spectra have been developed, and a catalog of 278 spectra of the diffuse sky covering a wide range of Galactic and ecliptic latitudes was constructed. Using this catalog, two other major foreground components, the zodiacal light (ZL) and the diffuse Galactic light (DGL), were separated and subtracted by taking correlations with ZL brightness estimated by the DIRBE ZL model and with the $100{\mu}m$ dust thermal emission, respectively. The isotropic emission was interpreted as the extragalactic background light (EBL), which shows significant excess over the integrated light of galaxies at <$4{\mu}m$.
