In this research, a simple four-variable trigonometric integral shear deformation model is proposed for the static behavior of advanced functionally graded (AFG) ceramic-metal plates supported by a two-parameter elastic foundation and subjected to a nonlinear hygro-thermo-mechanical load. The elastic properties, including both the thermal expansion and moisture coefficients of the plate, are also supposed to be varied within thickness direction by following a power law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the components of the material. The interest of the current theory is seen in its kinematics that use only four independent unknowns, while first-order plate theory and other higher-order plate theories require at least five unknowns. The "in-plane displacement field" of the proposed theory utilizes cosine functions in terms of thickness coordinates to calculate out-of-plane shear deformations. The vertical displacement includes flexural and shear components. The elastic foundation is introduced in mathematical modeling as a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation. The virtual displacement principle is applied to obtain the basic equations and a Navier solution technique is used to determine an analytical solution. The numerical results predicted by the proposed formulation are compared with results already published in the literature to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed theory. The influences of "moisture concentration", temperature, stiffness of foundation, shear deformation, geometric ratios and volume fraction variation on the mechanical behavior of AFG plates are examined and discussed in detail.
This study was intended to computerize the structural analysis of two-dimensional continuum by finite element method, and to provide a preparatory basis for more sophisticated and more generalized computer programs of this kind. A computer program, applicable to any shape of two-dimensional continuum, was formulated on the basis of 16-degree-of- freedom rectangular element. Various computational aspects pertaining to the implementation of finite element method were reviewed and settled in the course of programming. The validity of the program was checked through several case studies. To assess the accuracy and the convergence characteristics of the method, the results computed by the program were compared with solutions by other methods, namely the analytical Navier's method and the framework method. Through actual programming and analysis of the computed results, the following facts were recognized; 1) The stiffness matrix should necessarily be assembled in a condensed form in order to make it possible to discretize the continuum into practically adequate number of elements without using back-up storage. 2) For minimization of solution time, in-core solution of the equilibrium equation is essential. LDLT decomposition is recommended for stiffness matrices condensed by the compacted column storage scheme. 3) As for rectangular plates, the finite element method shows better performances both in the accuracy and in the rate of convergence than the framework method. As the number of elements increases, the error of the finite element method approaches around 1%. 4) Regardless of the structural shape, there is a uniform tendency in convergence characteristics dependent on the shape of element. Square elements show the best performance. 5) The accuracy of computation is independent of the interpolation function selected.
This report describes the effects of following flaws due to ship's propeller on the fish farm structure when the ship's propeller is operated in full power. This study is applied an incompressible newtonian fluid theory, which is governed the Navier-Stokes equation. For the numerical solution, Neumann equation are applied as the boundary conditions. The result shows that the flow velocity near the fish farm is 1.0 m/sec. The actual measurement carries out by using propeller type velocimeter in order to measure the velocity of following flows and currents around the fish farm area. The result shows that the maximum velocity near the fish farm structure is 1.2 m/sec in depth of 1.5 m. This velocity is used for calculation of external force on the fish farm structure. The results of structural strength of the fish farm structures show that the actual maximum bending moment and bending stress are less than the damage strength of material. So the fish farm structure is not affected by the following flows and currents of ship's propeller.
In this talk, a reduced-order modeling methodology based on centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVT's)is introduced. CVT's are special Voronoi tessellations for which the generators of the Voronoi diagram are also the centers of mass (means) of the corresponding Voronoi cells. The discrete data sets, CVT's are closely related to the h-means clustering techniques. Even with the use of good mesh generators, discretization schemes, and solution algorithms, the computational simulation of complex, turbulent, or chaotic systems still remains a formidable endeavor. For example, typical finite element codes may require many thousands of degrees of freedom for the accurate simulation of fluid flows. The situation is even worse for optimization problems for which multiple solutions of the complex state system are usually required or in feedback control problems for which real-time solutions of the complex state system are needed. There hava been many studies devoted to the development, testing, and use of reduced-order models for complex systems such as unsteady fluid flows. The types of reduced-ordered models that we study are those attempt to determine accurate approximate solutions of a complex system using very few degrees of freedom. To do so, such models have to use basis functions that are in some way intimately connected to the problem being approximated. Once a very low-dimensional reduced basis has been determined, one can employ it to solve the complex system by applying, e.g., a Galerkin method. In general, reduced bases are globally supported so that the discrete systems are dense; however, if the reduced basis is of very low dimension, one does not care about the lack of sparsity in the discrete system. A discussion of reduced-ordering modeling for complex systems such as fluid flows is given to provide a context for the application of reduced-order bases. Then, detailed descriptions of CVT-based reduced-order bases and how they can be constructed of complex systems are given. Subsequently, some concrete incompressible flow examples are used to illustrate the construction and use of CVT-based reduced-order bases. The CVT-based reduced-order modeling methodology is shown to be effective for these examples and is also shown to be inexpensive to apply compared to other reduced-order methods.
In this paper, buckling and free vibration of imperfect, functionally graded beams, including porosities, are investigated, using a higher order shear strain theory. Due to defects during the manufacturing process, micro porosities may appear in the material, hence the appearance of this imperfection in the structure. The material properties of the beams are assumed to vary regularly, with power and sigmoid law, in the direction of thickness. A novel porosity distribution affecting the functionally graded volume fraction is presented. For the compact formulation used for cementite-based materials and already used in P-FGM, we have adapted it for the distribution of S-FGM. The equations of motion in the FG beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The boundary conditions for beam FG are assumed to be simply supported. Navier's solution is used to obtain the closed form solutions of the FG beam. The numerical results of this work are compared with those of other published research to verify accuracy and reliability. The comparisons of different shear shape functions, the influence of porosity, thickness and inhomogeneity parameters on buckling and free vibration of the FG beam are all discussed. It is established that the present work is more precise than certain theories developed previously.
The Numerical study has been carried out to investigate the effects of chemical reaction and thermal radiation on the rocket plume flow-field at various altitudes. The theoretical formulation is based on the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows along with the infinitely fast chemistry and thermal radiation. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume fully-implicit TVD(Total Variation Diminishing) code which uses Roe's approximate Riemann solver and MUSCL(Monotone Upstream-centered Schemes for Conservation Laws) scheme. LU-SGS (Lower Upper Symmetric Gauss Seidel) method is used for the implicit solution strategy. An equilibrium chemistry module for hydrocarbon mixture with detailed thermo-chemical properties and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. In this study, kerosene-fueled rocket was assumed operating at O/F ratio of 2.34 with a nozzle expansion ratio of 6.14. Flight conditions considered were Mach number zero at ground level, Mach number 1.16 at altitude 5.06km and Mach number 2.9 at altitude 17.34km. Numerical results gave the understandings on the detailed plume structures at different altitude conditions. The diffusive effect of the thermal radiation on temperature field and the effect of chemical recombination during the expansion process could be also understood. By comparing the results from frozen flow and infinitely fast chemistry assumptions, the excess temperature of the exhaust gas resulting from the chemical recombination seems to be significant and cannot be neglected in the view point of performance, thermal protection and flow physics.

This paper presents a new hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory including the stretching effect for free vibration of the simply supported functionally graded plates in thermal environments. The theory accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. This theory has only five unknowns, which is even less than the other shear and normal deformation theories. The present one has a new displacement field which introduces undetermined integral variables. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume power laws of the constituents. The equation of motion of the vibrated plate obtained via the classical Hamilton's principle and solved using Navier's steps. The accuracy of the proposed solution is checked by comparing the present results with those available in existing literature. The effects of the temperature field, volume fraction index of functionally graded material, side-to-thickness ratio on free vibration responses of the functionally graded plates are investigated. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the natural frequencies of functionally graded plates with stretching effect in thermal environments.
In this paper, thermal-buckling behavior of the functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite plates reinforced with graphene oxide powder (GOP) is studied under three types of thermal loading once the plate is supposed to be rested on a two-parameter elastic foundation. The effective material properties of the nanocomposite plate are considered to be graded continuously through the thickness according to the Halpin-Tsai micromechanical scheme. Four types of GOPs' distribution namely uniform (U), X, V and O, are considered in a comparative way in order to find out the most efficient model of GOPs' distribution for the purpose of improving the stability limit of the structure. The governing equations of the plate have been derived based on a refined higher-order shear deformation plate theory incorporated with Hamilton's principle and solved analytically via Navier's solution for a simply supported GOP reinforced (GOPR) nanocomposite plate. Some new results are obtained by applying different thermal loadings to the plate according to the GOPs' negative coefficient of thermal expansion and considering both Winkler-type and Pasternak-type foundation models. Besides, detailed parametric studies have been carried out to reveal the influences of the different types of thermal loading, weight fraction of GOP, aspect and length-to-thickness ratios, distribution type, elastic foundation constants and so on, on the critical buckling load of nanocomposite plates. Moreover, the effects of thermal loadings with various types of temperature rise are investigated comparatively according to the graphical results. It is explicitly shown that the buckling behavior of an FG nanocomposite plate is significantly influenced by these effects.
In this work, a simple quasi 3-D parabolic shear deformation theory is developed to examine the bending response of antisymmetric cross-ply laminated composite plates under different types of mechanical loading. The main feature of this theory is that, in addition to including the transverse shear deformation and thickness stretching effects, it has only five-unknown variables in the displacement field modeling like Mindlin's theory (FSDT), yet satisfies the zero shear stress conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without requiring a shear correction factor. The static version of principle of virtual work was employed to derive the governing equations, while the bending problem for simply supported antisymmetric cross-ply laminated plates was solved by a Navier-type closed-form solution procedure. The adequacy of the proposed model is handled by considering the impact of side-to-thickness ratio on bending response of plate through several illustrative examples. Comparison of the obtained numerical results with the other shear deformation theories leads to the conclusion that the present model is more accurate and efficient in predicting the displacements and stresses of laminated composite plates.

By the present paper, both experimental and analytical models have been proposed to study the vibration behavior of partially bio-sourced sandwich panel with orthogonally stiffened core. For a variable mass fraction of Alfa fibers from 5% to 15%, impregnated in a Medapoxy STR resin, this panel were manufactured by molding the orthogonally stiffened core then attached it with both skins. Using simply supported boundary conditions, a free vibration test was carried out using an impact hammer for predicting the natural frequencies, the mode shapes and the damping coefficient versus the fibers content. In addition, an analytical model based on the Higher order Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) was developed to predict natural frequencies and the mode shapes according to Navier's solution. From the experimental test, we have found that the frequency increases with the increase in the mass fraction of the fibers until 10%. Beyond this fraction, the frequencies give relatively lower values. For the analytical model, variation of the natural frequencies increased considerably with side-to-thickness ratio (a/H) and equivalent thickness of the core to thickness of the face (hs/h). We concluded that, the vibration behavior was significantly influenced by geometrical and mechanical properties of the partially bio-sourced sandwich panel.
