  • Understanding consumer behavior based on the analysis of the customer data is one essential part of analytic CRM. To do this, the analytic skills for data extraction and data processing are required to users. As a user has various kinds of questions for the consumer data analysis, the user should use database language such as SQL. However, for the firm's user, to generate SQL statements is not easy because the accuracy of the query result is hugely influenced by the knowledge of work-site operation and the firm's database. This paper proposes a natural language based database search framework finding relevant database elements. Specifically, we describe how our TableRank method can understand the user's natural query language and provide proper relations and attributes of data records to the user. Through several experiments, it is supported that the TableRank provides accurate database elements related to the user's natural query. We also show that the close distance among relations in the database represents the high data connectivity which guarantees matching with a search query from a user.

  • Image projectors can turn any surface into a display. Integrating a surface projection with a user interface transforms it into an interactive display with many possible applications. Hand gesture interfaces are often used with projector-camera systems. Hand detection through color image processing is affected by the surrounding environment. The lack of illumination and color details greatly influences the detection process and drops the recognition success rate. In addition, there can be interference from the projection system itself due to image projection. In order to overcome these problems, a gesture interface based on depth images is proposed for projected surfaces. In this paper, a depth camera is used for hand recognition and for effectively extracting the area of the hand from the scene. A hand detection and finger tracking method based on depth images is proposed. Based on the proposed method, a touch interface for the projected surface is implemented and evaluated.

  • The role of dialogue manager is to select proper actions based on observed environment and inferred user intention. This paper presents stochastic model for dialogue manager based on Markov decision process. To build a mixed initiative dialogue manager, we used accumulated user utterance, previous act of dialogue manager, and domain dependent knowledge as the input to the MDP. We also used dialogue corpus to train the automatically optimized policy of MDP with reinforcement learning algorithm. The states which have unique and intuitive actions were removed from the design of MDP by using the domain knowledge. The design of dialogue manager included the usage of natural language understanding and response generator to build short message based remote control of home networked appliances.

  • Nowadays, the advent of smart devices equipped with the latest input technologies has changed the way users interact with smart devices. The gesture based user interface, as the natural user interface technologies, has attracted a lot of attention from researchers and developers. Gestures can be constituted in different ways; touching a screen, moving a pointing device, or making hand or body movements in a three-dimensional (3D) space. The various gesture input devices make application developers to maintain multiple source code families for the same applications adapting different gesture input devices. In this paper, we defined the gesture interface markup language (GIML) based on extensible markup language (XML) to describe gestures independently of the input devices. It also provides constraints necessary to determine which gesture has occurred and information required when UGesture platform interact with the gesture based application. The proposed GIML is based on our previous implemented the UGesture platform and the evaluation results, and so the GIML can be used to define new gestures for the UGesture platform and support new input hardwares.

  • With the development of game technology, the realistic game graphics, interface technology, and various content services with immersion are being required in the content area. NUI has been developed through CLI and GUI. Unlike the conventional methods, it is an interface that could be the intuitive and realistic interface for human as a natural action realized. we propose a boxing simulation game using leap motion of it. Providing a realistic 3D experimental environment through VR headsets game, we also propose a method that can be calculated the scores if the user-controlled interface (fist) could be to punch the target (sandbag) of the internal in accordance with changes of the angle of target impact with the physical characteristics.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a workstation computer that allowed intraoperative touchless control of diagnostic and surgical images by a surgeon, and to report the preliminary experience with the use of the system in a series of cases in which dental surgery was performed. Materials and Methods: A custom workstation with a new motion sensing input device (Leap Motion) was set up in order to use a natural user interface (NUI) to manipulate the imaging software by hand gestures. The system allowed intraoperative touchless control of the surgical images. Results: For the first time in the literature, an NUI system was used for a pilot study during 11 dental surgery procedures including tooth extractions, dental implant placements, and guided bone regeneration. No complications were reported. The system performed very well and was very useful. Conclusion: The proposed system fulfilled the objective of providing touchless access and control of the system of images and a three-dimensional surgical plan, thus allowing the maintenance of sterile conditions. The interaction between surgical staff, under sterile conditions, and computer equipment has been a key issue. The solution with an NUI with touchless control of the images seems to be closer to an ideal. The cost of the sensor system is quite low; this could facilitate its incorporation into the practice of routine dental surgery. This technology has enormous potential in dental surgery and other healthcare specialties.

  • In this letter, we propose a dual autostereoscopic display platform employing a natural interaction method, which will be useful for sharing visual data with users. To provide 3D visualization of a model to users who collaborate with each other, a beamsplitter is used with a pair of autostereoscopic displays, providing a visual illusion of a floating 3D image. To interact with the virtual object, we track the user's hands with a depth camera. The gesture recognition technique we use operates without any initialization process, such as specific poses or gestures, and supports several commands to control virtual objects by gesture recognition. Experiment results show that our system performs well in visualizing 3D models in real-time and handling them under unconstrained conditions, such as complicated backgrounds or a user wearing short sleeves.

  • Service organizations increasingly adopt data-based intelligent engines called chatbots in support of the interaction between customers and the companies. Two different types of chatbots have been suggested and introduced by companies leading the adoption of this emerging technology: rule-based chatbots and natural language processing-based chatbots. While the differences between these two types of technologies look relatively clear, the organizational and practical impacts of the differences have not been systematically explored. This study performed an experiment to compare the use of the two different types of chatbots used in practice by two comparable organizations. These two types of actual chatbots were used by Korean on-line shopping malls with similar business models (mobile shopping), length of history, size and reputation. The comparison was made based on such dimensions as usability, searchability, reliability and attractiveness. Contraty to conventional expectation that the superiority in technology will produce superior usability, the results show mixed superiority. The discussion on the reasons is presented.

  • In this paper, a database interface system with natural language dialogue is designed and implemented. The system is made up of language analysis, context processing, dialogue processing and DB processing unit. The method for classifying and processing an undefined word in language analysis is proposed. It reduces the dictionary size, which gives difficulties in DB Interface. And the current DB Interfaces dealt with an input utterance independently. But the system in this paper provides a user with the interface environment in which he or she can have a continuous conversation with the system and retrieve DB information. Thus in this paper, speech acts which include user's inattentions well as propositional contents are defined, and user action hierarchical model for library DB retrieval is constructed. And the system uses the defined knowledge to recognize-user's plan, effectively understanding and managing the ongoing dialogue. And the system is implemented in the domain of library database in order to prove the proposed methods in this paper.
