Antimicrobial Activity of Propolis Extract and Their Application as a Natural Preservative in Livestock Products: A Meta-Analysis

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of propolis extract as a natural preservative for livestock products in term of chemical and microbiological characteristics by meta-analysis. The stages carried out in this study were identification, selection, checking suitability, and the resulting selected articles were used in the meta-analysis. The selection results obtained a total of 22 selected journal articles consisting of 9 articles for analysis of the antimicrobial activity of propolis extract and 13 articles for analysis of the chemical and mirobiological characteristics of livestock products. The articles were obtained from electronic databases, namely Science Direct and Google Scholar. The model used in this study is the random-effect model involving two groups, control and experimental. Heterogeneity and effect size values were carried out in this study using Hedge's obtained through openMEE software. Forest plot tests and data validation on publication bias was obtained using Kendall's test throught JASP 0.14.1 software. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between propolis extract with the results of the antimicrobial activity (p<0.05). In addition, the results of the application of propolis extract on the livestock products for the test microbes and the value of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs) showed significant results (p<0.05). Conclusion based on the random-effect model on the effectiveness of antimicrobial activity of propolis extract and their apllication as a natural preservative of the chemical and microbiological characteristics of livestock products is valid by Kendall's test (p>0.05). Propolis in this case effectively used as natural preservatives in livestock products.

토마토 유기농 시설재배에서 천적활용 증진을 위한 동반식물 투입효과 (Effectiveness of Companion Plant Input to Improve Natural Enemy Utilization in Organic Tomato Production)

  • This study determined the mechanisms of selection of companion plants that will increase natural enemies and compared and analyzed the effect of suppression of pest density and changes in pest and natural enemy density and spatial distribution, aiming to select suitable companion plants to control major pests that are problematic in organic tomato facility cultivation. As a result of the companion plant selection, 13.5 days were identified in the area with daily flowers among five species of flowering plants. In the experiment to determine the timing of natural enemies, the best results were found in the treatment group introduced two weeks before the pest occurred. As a result of the actual package test, farmers could see that the density of greenhouse pollen decreased significantly (100-500% for adults and 11-67% for larvae compared to no treatment) in the treatment with companion plants. Based on the results of this study, we expect that ecological pest management using companion plants that attract natural enemies will help to increase biodiversity through vegetation management, secure the safe production of organic products and improve the sustainability of agriculture.

판교 신도시내의 추모공원 입지선정 분석 (Analysis on location selection of the Memorial Park at Pangyo)

  • 본 논문은 판교 신도시내의 새로운 추모시설을 도입함으로써, 차후의 신도시의 계획컨셉과 복지정책의 전환을 가능케할 수 있다는 전제하에 추진되었다. 이 연구에서는 판교신도시내의 근린공원 10개 중, 최종 1개의 최적부지를 선정하기 위해 추모공원 입지가 가능한 근린공원들을 분석하여 선정하는 연구를 진행하였다. 추모공원의 혐오시설로서의 특성들을 고려하고, 자연적 요소 및 기술적 요소 등에 대한 기준들을 검토하였으며, 전문가의견 설문을 통해 가중치분석의 틀을 객관화하였으며, 신도시내의 공원화 가능성에 대해 검토하였다. 이를 위해 판교라는 신도시의 특징 등 제반 여건이 종합적으로 검토되었으나, 본 연구에서는 추모공원의 입지선정과정을 보여줌으로써, 다른 여타의 추모공원의 입지분석에 기초정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Estimation of the genetic parameters of 24- and 30-month carcass traits for sire selection

  • This study investigated the possibility of performing selection using 30-month carcass traits by estimating the genetic parameters of 24- and 30-month carcass traits. Data used in this study were the carcass traits of 13,151 heads slaughter at the age of 24 and 30 months. As a result of the study, the heritability of backfat thickness, carcass weight, eye muscle area and marbling score at 24 months of age were estimated to be 0.588, 0.354, 0.467 and 0.587, respectively. The heritability of backfat thickness, carcass weight, eye muscle area and marbling score at 30 months of age were estimated to be 0.498, 0.577, 0.505 and 0.530, respectively. The ranking correlation was 0.516 between the carcass selection indices of 24 and 30 months of age. By providing a 30-month selection index, it is possible to use semen suitable for farm profits, and more semen information can be provided to farms than previously. Furthermore, studies on a selection index based on 30-month carcass traits are needed to provide highly accurate information.

Examination of Students' Perceptions of the Selection of Science Subjects in High School Credit System and Their Reasons for Selection

  • We investigated and analyzed students' perceptions of their choice of science subjects in the high school credit system and the reasons for their choice. To achieve this, the selection of science subjects was investigated for the second year of S high school over the past three years. Students selected an average of 1.54 science subjects, and it was found that the rate of selection of science subjects was gradually increasing by year. Students chose high in the order of life science I, earth science I, chemistry I, physics I, etc. in the science subject group. Students who wish to enter the natural and engineering fields chose life science I, chemistry I, physics I, etc., while, students who wish to enter the humanities society chose society and culture, life science I, ethics and thought, etc. On the other hand, the reason for choosing science subjects was 'related to college admission', followed by 'aptitude and interest', 'career and real life help', etc. physics I, chemistry I, etc., were high in the subjects selected according to the 'related to college admission'. The subjects selected according to 'aptitude and interest' were high in life science I, earth science I, etc. Physics I, chemistry I, etc. are recognized as subjects necessary for college entrance, and life science I, earth science I, etc., are found to be related to their interests and aptitudes.

신갈나무-전나무 천연(天然) 혼효임분(混淆林分)의 경신(更新) 및 무육방법(撫育方法) I. 임분구조(林分構造)와 작업종(作業種) (Regeneration and Tending Practices for Natural Mixed Stands of Quercus mongolica-Abies holophylla I. Stand Structure and Silvicultural System)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 강원도(江原道) 인제군 기린면 진동리 소재(所在) 천연(天然) 혼효임분(混淆林分)의 구조(構造) 파악(把握)을 통하여 작업종(作業種) 결정(決定)을 위한 기초자료(基礎資料)를 제공(提供)하기 위하여 실행(實行)되었다 이를 위하여 대상(對象) 임분(林分)의 직경(直徑), 분포(分布), 수고(樹高) 분포(分布), 그리고 경급별(徑級別) 재적(材積) 분포(分布)가 분석(分析)되었고 이를 이용(利用)하여 택벌임(擇伐林)의 가능성(可能性)이 검토(檢討)되었다. 1. 직경(直徑) 분포(分布)는 전형적(典型的)인 택벌임(擇伐林)에서 볼 수 있는 지수감소형(指數減少型) 구조(構造)를 나타냈고 수고(樹高) 분포(分布)에서도 택벌림(擇伐林)으로 유도(誘導)될 수 있는 높은 가능성(可能性)을 보였는데 이는 이 대상(對象) 임분(林分)이 자생(自生) 천연림(天然林) 특유(特有)의 복층림(複層林) 구조(構造)를 소유(所有)하고 있기 때문이다. 그러나 경급별(徑級別) 재적(材積) 분포(分布)에서는 택벌(擇伐) 임형(林型)에 이르지 못한 미성숙(未成熟) 구조(構造)를 보이고 있는데 그 이유(理由)는 30cm 이상(以上)의 경급(徑級)에서의 본수(本數)의 부족(不足)에 기인(起因)한 것으로 판단(判斷)된다. 이러한 구조상(構造上)의 부확실성(不確實性)은 앞으로의 연구에서 밝혀져야 하는데 특(特)히 직경(直徑)과 재적(材積) 생장율(生長率)의 추정(推定)에 의한 미래(未來) 임분(林分) 구조(構造)의 파악(把握)이 시급(時急)한 것으로 보인다.

고등학교 생물 교과서에서의 진화내용분석 (Analysis of Evolutionary Content in High School Biology Textbook)

  • 1차에서 6차에 이르기까지 13종의 교과서의 진화내용을 분석하였다. 9가지 성분으로 구분된 교과서의 내용분석은 80가지 진화내용 항목에 대해 이루어졌다. 분석결과 교과서에서 진화내용의 총량은 증가하였으나 총 진화내용 중 본논문내용이 차지하는 비중은 1차에서 6차 교육과정에 따라 개발된 교과서로 가며 점차 감소하였고 진화내용의 비중은 생물교육과정과 교과서 저자의 시각에 의해서도 영향을 받았다. 대체로 분석된 교과서에서 다루어진 진화주제는 다양성면에서 부족하였다. 어떤 주제 항목은- '집단선택', '유전자 선택', '화석 기록에서의 공백', '공진화', 단속 평형설', '혼합진화', '인류진화에 있어서의 노동의 위치', 인종의 차이', ''개체발생의 계통발생을 반복한다'에 대한 비판', '진화에 영향을 미치는 인간의 활동'-다루어지지 않았고 또 어떤 항목은-'중립설', '지질시대에서 발견되는 주요사건에 관한 설(멸종에 관한 내용 제외)', '동소적 종분화', '연속변이적 종분화 및 지역효과 종분화', '배수성과 진화', '점진주의', '연장류의 기원과 진화'-거의 언급되지 않았다. 가장 강조된 주제 항목은 '일반적인 계통학', '세포전 단계의 형성', '기타' 순으로 많이 강조되었다. 자연선택설은 진화의 중요 주제임에도 불구하고 여러진화설중의 하나로 다루어졌다. 또한 유전적 평형을 붕괴시키는 요인으로서 유전적 부동이나 이주 등도 소홀히 다루어지고 있었고 종분화의 속도와 관련된 주제도 거의 언급되지 않았다. 반면 신뢰성이 의심되는 발생반복설이 진화 증거의 하나로 교과서에서 제시되었다. 이 결과에 근거해 교과서 저자들이 진화와 진화설을 설명할 때 자연 선택설에 초점을 맞추어 보다 의미 있는 주제를 소개할 것을 제안한다.

의복의 유행 스타일 수용과 선택기준 및 유행 정보원의 활용과의 관계연구 (A Study on Relationships between Fashion Style Adoption and Selection Criteria and Use of Fashion Information Sources in Clothing-Purchase)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between fashion style adoption and consumers' demographic characteristics, selection criteria and use of fashion information sources respectively and find out how their concerned variables influenced high fashion style adoption. For this study, the questionnaire was administered to a sample of 554 female adults in Kwangju. frequency distribution, Mean, Pearson's Correlation, Analysis of variance and Path Analysis were used fer the statistical analysis. The results obtained were as followers. 1) Level of fashion style adoption showed a normal distribution like a wave. 2) Consumer's demographic characteristics variables, such as age, educational level and income significantly associated with fashion style adoption. Younger consumers adopted tile high fashion style 41)an more aged consumers. while consumers in higher educational and income level adopted high fashion style than consumers in lower. 3) Among individuality, conformity, practicality and economy in selection criterias, only individually and practicality associated with fastion style adoption in clothing purchase. In the case of the high fashion style adoption, purchasing with individuality was increased, while purchasing with practicality was decreased. 4) The use of marketer dominated sources in fashion information sources significantlyassociated with fashion style adoption. In the case of high fashion style adoption, the use of marketer dominated and neutral information sources was higher. 5) The use of marketer dominated information sources had a main effect on high fashion style adoption in clothing purchase. Especially in the group composed of college students and occupational women, individuality and praticality as selection criterias came to be important effects. While in the group composed of housewives and non-occupational single women, age, educational level and income came to be important effects.

Optimal Selection of Populations for Units in a System

  • A problem of choosing units for the series system and the 1-out-of-2 system from k available brands is treated from a decision-theoretic points of view. It is assumed that units from each brand have exponentially distributed life lengths, and that the loss functions are inversely proportional to the reliability of the system. For the series system the 'natural' rule is shown to be optimal. For the 1-out-of-2 system, the Bayes rule wrt the natural conjugate prior is derived and teh constants to implement the Bayes rule are given.

Prediction of Genes Related to Positive Selection Using Whole-Genome Resequencing in Three Commercial Pig Breeds

  • Selective sweep can cause genetic differentiation across populations, which allows for the identification of possible causative regions/genes underlying important traits. The pig has experienced a long history of allele frequency changes through artificial selection in the domestication process. We obtained an average of 329,482,871 sequence reads for 24 pigs from three pig breeds: Yorkshire (n = 5), Landrace (n = 13), and Duroc (n = 6). An average read depth of 11.7 was obtained using whole-genome resequencing on an Illumina HiSeq2000 platform. In this study, cross-population extended haplotype homozygosity and cross-population composite likelihood ratio tests were implemented to detect genes experiencing positive selection for the genome-wide resequencing data generated from three commercial pig breeds. In our results, 26, 7, and 14 genes from Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc, respectively were detected by two kinds of statistical tests. Significant evidence for positive selection was identified on genes ST6GALNAC2 and EPHX1 in Yorkshire, PARK2 in Landrace, and BMP6, SLA-DQA1, and PRKG1 in Duroc. These genes are reportedly relevant to lactation, reproduction, meat quality, and growth traits. To understand how these single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related positive selection affect protein function, we analyzed the effect of non-synonymous SNPs. Three SNPs (rs324509622, rs80931851, and rs80937718) in the SLA-DQA1 gene were significant in the enrichment tests, indicating strong evidence for positive selection in Duroc. Our analyses identified genes under positive selection for lactation, reproduction, and meat-quality and growth traits in Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc, respectively.
