Experimental study is carried out to verify the advantages of an air chamber structure in controlling the wave transformation and its dynamic responses. The open, cross and vertical mooring systems are employed in experiments to investigate the variations of wave transmission ratio, natural period of the structures and tensile force acting on the mooring line according to the change of the initial air depth inside the air chamber structure. Experimental results show that the air chamber floating structure expresses the smaller wave transmission ratio and tensile force acting on the mooring line than general one without air chamber, expecially in the long period region of incident wave. Therefore, it is concluded that the air chamber structure suggested in this study can play good roles as a wave controlling castal structure, and a substitute structure of a general floating structure.

This study investigates the effect of site class, post-yield stiffness ratio, damping ratio, yield-strength reduction factor, and natural period on inelastic displacement ratio of bilinear SDF systems located at the sites classified as NEHRP site class B,C,D. The previous studies developed inelastic displacement ratio using equal displacement rule in the intermediate and long period range. But, this approximation overestimates the inelastic displacement ratio. Furthermore, inelastic displacement ratio has not been developed for the systems having a damping ratio less than 5%. This study conducts nonlinear regression analysis for proposing equations for calculating median and deviation of the inelastic displacement ratio of the bilinear SDOF system having damping ratios ranging from 0 to 20%. Using median and deviation of the inelastic displacement ratio, probabilistic inelastic displacement ratio is estimated, which can be used for performance-based seismic evaluation.

This study was carried out to propose the improved method by analyzing the change of green space arrangement and planting structure of apartment complexes in Seoul. 12 survey sites, which have obvious differences, were selected by reflecting the change of floor area ratio, underground parking place, and green space ratio. We divided the survey sites into four types that high green ratio(over 40%) apartment on natural ground, low green ratio(under 40%) apartment on natural ground, low green ratio(under 40%) apartment on artificial ground, and high green ratio(over 40%) apartment on artificial ground each period based on green space ratio and ground structure, plant crown volume, planting density, and planting pattern. The main factors of change of green space arrangement were green space ratio and ground structure. The Green space ratio was changed by the floor area ratio with constructing underground parking place and floor area ratio was adjusted by government policy and economic status. Average width of front green area has been changed from 10.0m in high green ratio apartment on natural ground for 3.5m, 2.7m, and 4.5m each period. The average width of the buffer green area has been changed from 15.0m in high green ratio apartment on natural ground of 7.7m, and 2.7m by extending parking place in the low green ratio apartment of artificial ground, so buffer green areas have been reduced and disconnected. So buffer green area in apartment complexes has been extended that the average width of the buffer green area was 3.8m caused by growing recognition of green since 2001. The ratio of native plant in canopy layer was increased from 45.1 % in the case of the high green ratio apartment of natural ground in 1980~1983 to 55.6%. Average plant crown volume increased from $1.27m^3/m^2$ in high green ratio apartment on natural ground for $3.47m^3/m^2$ in a low green ratio apartment on natural ground. But average plant crown volume is $0.27m^3/m^2$ in the high green ratio apartment of the artificial ground plant density of canopy layer was changed from 5 individuals per $100m^2$ to 14.5 individuals per $100m^2$. We should construct the buffer green area with natural ground and get the function of ecological and beautiful environment regarding to garden concept in case of front green area, width 4.5m. We should get the function of increasing green volume by multi-layer planting with shade woody species and flower woody species in case of back-side green area, width over 5.0m. We should get the function of covering the wall and increasing green landscape by planting with high woody species in case of side green area. We should apply the ecological planting technique to buffer green area and connect buffer green area to inner green area in apartment complexes.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the temperature profile and the emissions conversion efficiency of catalytic converters for natural gas vehicles. Two types of the catalyst structure and several transient engine operating conditions were used. The dual-bed catalyst effectively reduced the emissions in a transient period due to the low heat capacity of the front bed. The lanthanoid additives were effective in improving catalyst durability. When the natural gas fueled engine were operated outside of a very narrow window of excess air ratio (from 0.993 to 1.004), the HC and NOx conversion efficiency dropped off. The drop-off were especially fast on the lean side of the window.
Concrete structures are generally cracked in flexural tension at working loads. Concrete beams with asymmetric section details and crack patterns exhibit different flexural rigidity depending upon the sense of the applied flexural moment. In this paper, three different models, having the same natural period, of such SDOF bilinear dynamical systems have been proposed. The Model-I and Model-II have constant damping coefficient, but the latter is characterized by two stiffness coefficients depending upon the sense of vibration amplitude. The Model-III, additionally, has two damping coefficients as well. In this paper, the dynamical response of Model-III to sinusoidal loading has been investigated and compared with that of Model-II studied earlier. It has been found that Model-III exhibits regular and irregular sub-harmonics, jump phenomena and strong sensitivity to initial conditions, forcing frequency, system period as well as the sense of peak sinusoidal force. The constant sustained load has been found to affect the natural period of the dynamical system. The predictions of Model-I have been compared with those of the approximate linear model adopted in present practice. The behaviour exhibited by different models of the SDOF cracked elastic concrete structures under working loads and the theoretical and practical implications of the approach followed have been critically evaluated.

Korean government compensates 100% for natural disaster relief fund to public facilities, and provides 70 percents to crops through unit price calculation. This study estimated disaster damage according to the standard production cost of crops. Disaster damage was estimated according to the unit price of crops. Those crops are lettuce, pumpkin, red pepper, spinach, tomato and cucumber. As a result, the ratio of natural disaster relief fund to damage was revealed as $3.3%{\sim}13.8%$ with present method, 5.7%{$\sim}34.1%$ with suggested method. Suggested method is the first one considered damage ratio of crops, producer price and raising period.
This paper reports the experimental study of natural convection heat transfer with $Al_2O_3$-water nanofluid. Experimental apparatus was a cylindrical enclosure with adjustable fluid layer thickness, and the aspect ratio was varied between 10.9 and 30.4. Heat transfer coefficients seemed to have reached a steady value within 30 minutes as the case with pure water. But, decrease in heat transfer coefficient continued for over $1{\sim}2$ hours for inclination angle of $0^{\circ}$, and oscillation in heat transfer was observed for certain inclination angles and aspect ratios for over 10 hours. Oscillation shape and period depended on the aspect ratio and inclination angle. For example, the oscillation period for $0^{\circ}$ was more than twice that for $60^{\circ}$. The maximum Nusselt number occurred at the inclination angle of $30^{\circ}$, and the minimum occurred at $60^{\circ}$ for Rayleigh number less than 1.E5. However the present results were obtained with aggregated nanofluid and would be devoid of generalities.
A parametric study on the nonlinear seismic response of isolated reinforced concrete structural frame is presented. Three prototype frames designed according to the 1954 Hellenic seismic code, with number of floor ranging from 1 to 3 were considered. These low rise frames are representative of many existing reinforced concrete buildings in Greece. The efficacy of the implementation of both lead rubber bearings (LRB) and friction pendulum isolators (FPI) base isolation systems were examined. The selection of the isolation devices was made according to the ratio $T_{is}/T_{fb}$, where Tis is the period of the base isolation system and $T_{bf}$ is the period of the fixed-base building. The main purpose of this comprehensive study is to investigate the effect of the isolation system period on the seismic response of inadequately designed low rise buildings. Thus, the implementation of isolation systems which correspond to the ratio $T_{is}/T_{fb}$ that values from 3 to 5 is studied. Nonlinear time history analyses were performed to investigate the response of the isolated structures using a set of three natural seismic ground motions. The evaluation of each retrofitting case was made in terms of storey drift and storey shear force while in view of serviceability it was made in terms of storey acceleration. Finally, the maximum developed displacements and the residual displacements of the isolation systems are presented.
Structural inertial interaction is a representative the effect of dynamic soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI), which leads to a relative displacement between soil and foundation, period lengthening, and damping increasing phenomena. However, for a system with a significantly heavy foundation, the dynamic inertia of the foundation influences and interacts with the structural seismic response. The structure-to-foundation mass ratio (MR) quantifies the distribution of mass between the structure and foundation for a structure on a shallow foundation. Although both systems exhibit the same vertical factor of safety (FSv), the MR and corresponding seismic responses attributed to the structure and foundation masses may differ. This study explored the influence of MR on the permanent deformation and seismic response of soil-foundation-structure system considering SFSI via numerical simulations. Given that numerous dimensionless parameters of SFSI described its influence on the structural seismic response, the parameters, except for MR and FSv, were fixed for the sensitivity analysis. The results demonstrated that the foundation inertia of heavier foundations induced more settlement due to sliding behavior of heavily-loaded systems. Moreover, the structural inertia of heavier structures evidently exhibited foundation rocking behavior, which results in a more elongated natural period of the structure for lightly-loaded systems.

Chitosan and Algin are known as a natural polymers. Biodegradable films were prepared by solution blend method in the weight ratio of natural polymer(low, medium, high-Chitosan, Algin) for the purpose of useful bioimplants. The possibility of bioimplants, which were prepared from natural polymers as a skin substitute and food wrapping materials were evaluated by measuring biodegradability. This biodegradable films were inserted in the back of rats and their biodegradability was investigated by hematological change evaluation as a function of time to biotransformation. It was found that these values of biodegradable films give some good results with short period test.
