  • Purpose: Poly-N-acetyl glucosamine(PGlcNAc) nanofiber-based materials, produced by a marine microalga, have been characterized as effective hemostatic and angiogenic agents. The similarity between PGlcNAc patch and the natural extracellular matrix allows it to support new healthy tissue growth in an injured area and to encourage fluid absorption. In this study, we hypothesized that a poly-N-acetyl glucosamine fiber patch(PGlcNAc patch) may enhance wound healing in the db/db mouse. Methods: PGlcNAc patches were applied on one square centimeter, full-thickness, skin wounds in the db/db mouse model. Wounds(n=15 per group) were dressed with a PGlcNAc nanofiber patch for 1 hour(1 h), 24 hours(24 h) or left untreated(NT). After the application time, patches were removed and wounds were allowed to heal spontaneously. The rate of wound closure was evaluated by digital analysis of unclosed wound area in course of time. At day 10, wounds(n=7 per group) were harvested and quantified with immunohistochemical markers of proliferation(Ki-67) and vascularization (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule, PECAM-1). Results: Wounds dressed with PGlcNAc patches for 1 hour closed faster than control wounds, reaching 90% closure in 16.6 days, nine days faster than untreated wounds. Granulation tissue showed higher levels of proliferation and vascularization following 1 h treatment than the 24 h and NT groups. In addition to its hemostatic properties, the PGlcNAc material also appears to accelerate wound closure in healing-impaired genetically diabetic mice. Conclusion: This material, with its combination of hemostatic and wound healing properties, has the potential to be effective agent for the treatment of complicated wounds.

  • In this study, we investigated the antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory activity, whitening, moisturizing, wound-healing, cell proliferation and cell protective effects of 70% EtOH and hot water extract from Scutellaria baicalensis. For the anti-oxidative test, the 70% EtOH and hot water extract showed DPPH radical scavenging activities. In the anti-inflammatory tests, 70% EtOH and hot water extract inhibited the production of NO, pro-inflammatory cytokine (IL-6) and prostaglandin (PGE2). In addition, it was confirmed that the 70% EtOH and hot water extract inhibited the melanin production, and increased production of hyaluronic acid (HA), a moisturizing factor. As a result of cell migration and proliferation assay, 70% EtOH extract promoted the cell growth in HaCaT cell. Additionally, 70% EtOH and hot water extract showed cell protective effects against UVB, and 70% EtOH extract also showed cell protective effects agianst blue light. Based on these results, it is concluded that the 70% EtOH and hot water extract from Scutellaria baicalensis could be potentially applicable as anti-oxdiative, anti-inflammation, whitening, moisturizing, wound-healing, cell proliferation and cell protective effects in cosmetic natural materials.

  • The purpose of this experiment was to know the healing effects of saualene on the burned mouses. The experimental groups were divided into seven groups: the control group, the burned groups, and 50 treated groups after burned. All groups except the control group burned with second degree on a dorsoanterior part. All groups that treated with 50 adapted three drops of pure squalene at 10 seconds interval; one time a day. The histological and ultrastructural changes during 10 days after burned were observed by light and electron microscope. Under the light microscope, all parts of epidermal layer of the burned groups were wounded deeper than the 50 treated groups. At 6 and 10 days groups with 50 treated, especially 10 days, the basal layer was greatly differentiated, and the prickle cells in the spinous layer were greatly increased in number. Under the electron microscope, the cell divisions of basal layer in all groups that treated with 50 were more activated and rapidly regenerated than the all burned groups. Especially, some fantastic results obtained from the 10 days group with SQ treated; much thicker spinous layer than the control group, many prickle cells, fine intercellular bridges, and healthy basal layer contained melanocytes. These results suggest that squalene may active the epidermis growth factor (EGF), acts as scavenger, and provide sources of energy in the membrane system. The results of this experiment consider that squalene has specific effects for burn healing and regeneration.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of high voltage pulsed current stimulation (HVPCS) on the healing rate of a dermal wound in a rat. We also determined the mechanism of promoting healing by HVPCS. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two group; HVPCS group (n=10) and control group (n=10). The HVPCS rats received electrical stimulation with a current intensity of 50 V at 100 pps for a duration of 30 minutes, while the control group was given the same treatment without electricity for a week. The biopsy specimens were fixed in formalin, embedded in paraffin and stained with Masson's trichrome, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). The fibroblasts and collagen density were counted using a light microscope and computerized image analysis system and calculated as the density and the percent. A Student t-test showed a significantly higher wound healing rate of the HVPCS group than control (t=-4.161, p<0.001). The fibroblasts in the HVPCS group were higher than in the control group (t=-4.921, p<0.001). The density of collagen in the HVPCS group was also higher than in the control group (t=-4.367, p<0.001). These results indicate that the HVPCS accelerated the rate of healing in dermal wound, and increased fibroblasts and collagen density in the regenerative dermis. These findings suggest that the HVPCS may activate fibroblasts by alteration of the electrical environment, and it may increase collagen synthesis in the regenerative dermal wound.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of early functional load around osseointegrated titanium implants. 24 titanium plasma spray coated implants (ITI HS-type) were placed into the previously extracted site in the mandible of six adult dogs. The implants were divided into three groups : the control group was the implants without abutment during the experimental period; the experimental group I was loaded by connecting the contoured abutment after 6 weeks of healing; the experimental group II was loaded after 12 weeks of healing: and the mandibular second premolar and surrounding tissues were selected for natural tooth group to compare the implanted group. All dogs were injected intravenously tetracycline, alizarin red S, and calcein for bone labeling. After the experimental period of 18 weeks, the dogs were sacrificed and longitudinal sections of the bone-implant interface were cut and observed using light microscope, scanning electron microscope, and fluorescence microscope. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Light and scanning electron microscopically, all implant surfaces were well contact with bone tissue at the cortical layer, but some areas of cancellous bone were not contact directly. 2. Fluorescence microscopically, number and size of the new secondary osteons around the implant were increased than those of the natural tooth. 3. Fluorescence microscopically, linear and concentrical fluorescence was observed at or near the surface of all implants, and the bone formation and remodeling of the implants loaded after 6 week of healing were great, and unloaded implants were worst. 4. Fluorescence microscopically, endosteal bone formation was greater than periosteal bone formation at or near the implants. 5. Fluorescence microscopically, number and size of linear and concentric fluorescence was increased at the lingual side than the buccal side of the loaded implants. The result of the study indicate the possibility of the early load to the implant via a prosthesis.

  • Objectives: Scientific verification for health effects has been constantly demanded through the forest healing factors. In this study, phytoncide concentration which is one of the forest healing factors, was investigated according to stand density, season and visiting time, and analyzed correlation with micrometeorology factors. Methods: Total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) and Natural volatile organic compounds (NVOCs) were collected using a measuring instrument which is connected to an air pump with the Tenax TA tube. The 32NVOCs were selected through the detailed criteria of adequacy assessment for recreational forest. The statistical analysis (correlation and stepwise regression analysis) was conducted between phytoncide concentration and micrometeorology factors. Results: NVOCs concentration linearly increased according to stand density. The high level showed in the summer (p<0.05), and there is no significant difference according to visiting hours of the Healing forest. NVOCs is a negative correlation with solar radiation, PAR and wind direction, and a positive correlation with relative humidity and temperature (p<0.01). NVOCs increased following the increase of humidity and temperature ($R^2=0.55$). Conclusions: Phytoncide linearly increased according to stand density, and showed the correlation significantly with microclimate factors. In future, these results will be utilized as a basic material to promote the generation of phytoncide, which positively influences human health promotion and manage the forest welfare space.

  • In order to verify the healing effect in the variety of effects according to fountain type, anion which is the representatives factor of healing, as the center of case studies which in Gwanghwamun(Ground fountain), Cheonggyecheon(Waterfall) and Myeongdong(Formative fountain). According to fountain type, the anion distribution as follow, figures typically$ 15,721{\pm}419ea/cm^3$, Formative fountain $40,190{\pm}788ea/cm^3$, Waterfall $4.480{\pm}290ea/cm^3$ and ground fountain $2.492{\pm}180ea/cm^3$. It is usually exceed to the distribution in natural green, which is $1070{\sim}2100ea/cm^3$. The interrelation between air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and relative humidity, and wind speed is that, the relative humidity is directly proportional to wind speed and inversely proportional to temperature. As the temperature goes up, the distribution of anion goes down. And as the wind speed and relative humidity goes up, the distribution of anion decrease sharply. The result of interrelation between fountain type and the anion distribution is that, the distance of water falling is directly proportional to the anion distribution in the formative fountain and inversely proportional in the ground fountain. And the distribution of anion is largest in formative fountain. The distribution of anion in ground fountain is lower than in formative fountain, but it is far more than in natural greenery. And as the distance from fountain increase, the distribution of anion goes down.

  • In recent years, medical techniques have provided patients with various measures to improve their quality of life. For dental treatment, drug-mediated sedation techniques for relieving dental anxiety have been developed, but behavior control through drugmediation may be limited because of possible side effects, contraindications, and the additional expense to the patient. Many patients tend to avoid the treatment or are unwilling to accept it and this makes both patients and dentists feel pressured. The field of NLP application might alleviate this uncomfortableness. Recently, NLP has spread to the dental and medical field rapidly and has been used in surgical treatments as well as in direct psychotherapy. NLP techniques which could be applied to dental phobic patients are as follows. 1) anchoring, 2) dissociation, 3) submodality change, 4) time line threapy, 5) swish pattern, 6) six step reframing, 7) parts integration, 8) modeling and imagination and so on. The aim of this study is to examine the strategy of NLP psychology so that dental phobic patients can be treated efficiently and effectively by the application of behavior management. Through NLP, patients can be induced to have more positive attitudes and experiences in future dental treatment.

  • For about half a century. dental implants made of titanium have developed as a method of restoration for the tooth loss. In these days. the titanium implants seem to be considered as the alternative for the conventional prosthodontics. But its hard to say that the titanium implants are superior to the treatments that preserve the natural tooth. As this is a general opinion among dentists. the implant will not be able to be the alternative for all the prosthetic treatments. Clinically, there are many causes for extracting tooth. The severe destruction of the tooth structure or periodontal diseases leads to inevitable tooth extraction. When the complete cure is doubtful because of narrow intraoral visibility and improper accessibility in approaching to the tooth and periodontal lesion, we. clinicians often inevitably extract tooth. Passive treatments like conventional restoration, curettage or surgical flap cant be the perfect treatments for the tooth that has subgingival root caries or severe periodontal diseases involved furcation. Many clinicians might have been forced to pull out the relatively healthy tooth by the difficulties of approaching to the lesions and poor prognosis. Though the intentional tooth replantation is performed sometimes. as it doesnt have enough scientific foundation. it has not been considered as a popular treatment method yet. I have been felt keenly the necessity of positive tooth preservation, so I have been attempting the treatment that has new concept. calling Natural Tooth Implantation (NTI) clinically. NTI differs from the tooth replantation in the goal for the treatment and biological healing process. Now. I confirm that NT! is a very positive and valid method of tooth preservation. Like you can get from the name. NTI is the dental implant procedure using natural teeth and similar to the healing process of the titanium implants in many aspects. I have been using biocompatible composite resin. DRM. with NTI and got affirmative clinical results from that. So I would like to introduce.roduce.
