The aim of the study is to show the results of complex shaking table experimental investigation focused on the response of two models of cylindrical steel tanks under mining tremors and moderate earthquakes, including the aspects of diagnosis of structural damage. Firstly, the impact and the sweep-sine tests have been carried out, so as to determine the dynamic properties of models filled with different levels of liquid. Then, the models have been subjected to seismic and paraseismic excitations. Finally, one fully filled structure has been tested after introducing two different types of damages, so as to verify the method of damage diagnosis. The results of the impact and the sweep-sine tests show that filling the models with liquid leads to substantial reduction in natural frequencies, due to gradually increasing overall mass. Moreover, the results of sweep-sine tests clearly indicate that the increase in the liquid level results in significant increase in the damping structural ratio, which is the effect of damping properties of liquid due to its sloshing. The results of seismic and paraseismic tests indicate that filling the tank with liquid leads initially to considerable reduction in values of acceleration (damping effect of liquid sloshing); however, beyond a certain level of water filling, this regularity is inverted and acceleration values increase (effect of increasing total mass of the structure). Moreover, comparison of the responses under mining tremors and moderate earthquakes indicate that the power amplification factor of the mining tremors may be larger than the seismic power amplification factor. Finally, the results of damage diagnosis of fully filled steel tank model indicate that the forms of the Fourier spectra, together with the frequency and power spectral density values, can be directly related to the specific type of structural damage. They show a decrease in the natural frequencies for the model with unscrewed support bolts (global type of damage), while cutting the welds (local type of damage) has resulted in significant increase in values of the power spectral density for higher vibration modes.
In this study, a model reduction technique was used to develop a precise noise and vibration prediction model for the individual components of a driveline system. The dynamic reduced-order model generated by the Craig-Bampton method was applied to perform dynamic analysis of an electric agricultural power cart. The natural frequency and acceleration response results were analyzed according to the different number of dominant sub-structural modes contained in the reduced-order models. Through the analysis results, it was confirmed that a sufficient number of dominant sub-structures to satisfy the operating conditions should be selected to construct an optimal reduced-order model.
The Canton Tower is a high-rise slender structure with a height of 610 m. A structural health monitoring system has been instrumented on the structure, by which data is continuously monitored. This paper presents an investigation on the identified modal properties of the Canton Tower using ambient vibration data collected during a whole day (24 hours). A recently developed Fast Bayesian FFT method is utilized for operational modal analysis on the basis of the measured acceleration data. The approach views modal identification as an inference problem where probability is used as a measure for the relative plausibility of outcomes given a model of the structure and measured data. Focusing on the first several modes, the modal properties of this supertall slender structure are identified on non-overlapping time windows during the whole day under normal wind speed. With the identified modal parameters and the associated posterior uncertainty, the distribution of the modal parameters in the future is predicted and assessed. By defining the modal root-mean-square value in terms of the power spectral density of modal force identified, the identified natural frequencies and damping ratios versus the vibration amplitude are investigated with the associated posterior uncertainty considered. Meanwhile, the correlations between modal parameters and temperature, modal parameters and wind speed are studied. For comparison purpose, the frequency domain decomposition (FDD) method is also utilized to identify the modal parameters. The identified results obtained by the Bayesian method, the FDD method and a finite element model are compared and discussed.

There is a burgeoning demand for minimizing the mass of satellites because of its direct impact on reducing launch-to-orbit cost. This must be done without compromising the structure's efficiency. The present paper introduces a relatively low-cost and easily implementable approach for optimizing structural mass to a maximum natural frequency. The natural frequencies of the satellite are of utmost pertinence to the application requirements, as the sensitive electronic instrumentation and onboard computers should not be affected by the vibrations of the satellite structure. This methodology is applied to a realistic model of Al-Azhar University micro-satellite in partnership with the Egyptian Space Agency. The procedure used in structural design can be summarized in two steps. The first step is to select the most favorable primary structural configuration among several different candidate variants. The nominated variant is selected as the one scoring maximum relative dynamic stiffness. The second step is to use perforation patterns reduce the overall mass of structural elements in the selected variant without changing the weight. The results of the presented procedure demonstrate that the mass reduction percentage was found to be 39% when compared to the unperforated configuration that had the same plate thickness. The findings of this study challenge the commonly accepted notion that isogrid perforations are the most effective means of achieving the goal of reducing mass while maintaining stiffness. Rather, the study highlights the potential benefits of exploring a wider range of perforation unit cells during the design process. The study revealed that rectangular perforation patterns had the lowest efficiency in terms of modal stiffness, while triangular patterns resulted in the highest efficiency. These results suggest that there may be significant gains to be made by considering a broader range of perforation shapes and configurations in the design of lightweight structures.

Treatment techniques that affect homeostasis by non-invasive regulation in peripheral organs will advance disease research. Here, we demonstrate a non-invasive method of conditioning within an organ using a low-frequency stimulator superposition of alternating microcurrent wave in stages. It is first applied to the inflammatory response in H3N2-infected sinusitis mice. To check the progress of the treatment, mice were sacrificed every week for 3 weeks, nasal tissue was removed, and the inflammatory response was investigated through H & E staining. The low-frequency stimulation treatment group was found to alleviate the proliferation of epithelial cells and invasion of inflammatory cells compared to the control group as the passage of treatment time. The reduction of inflammatory cytokines in the nasal lavage fluid was observed in H3N2-infected sinusitis mice treated with of low-frequency stimulation using superposition of alternating microcurrent wave compared to H3N2-infected sinusitis mice after 3 weeks. These data demonstrate that low-frequency stimulation device in the form of using alternating current wave superposition on within organs provides a new method to regulate specific physiological functions. Therefore, it is necessary to prove the inhibitory effect of low-frequency stimulation using alternating current wave superposition on inflammatory diseases by various methods through further studies and clinical studies.
Lean premixed combustion has been considered as one of the promising solutions for the reduction of NOx emissions from gas turbines. However, unstable combustion of lean premixed flow becomes a real challenge on the way to design a reliable, highly efficient dry low NOx gas turbine combustor. Contrary to a conventional diffusion type combustion system, characteristics of premixed combustion significantly depend on a premixing degree of combusting flow. Combustion behavior in terms of stability has been studied in a model gas turbine combustor burning natural gas and air. Incompleteness of premixing is identified as significant perturbation source for inducing unstable combustion. Application of a simple convection time lag theory can only predict instability modes but cannot determine whether instability occurs or not. Low frequency perturbations are observed at the onset of instability and believed to initiate the coupling between heat release rate and pressure fluctuations.
The weight reduction of carbody structures is of great concern in developing high speed tilting train for the normal operation of tilting system. The use of composite materials for the carbody structures has many advantages due to their excellent material properties. In this paper, finite element analysis was conducted to analysis and design the composite structure of Tilting Train eXpress(TTX). According to JIS E 7105, static load tests were performed and the structural safety of the composite carbody structure was verified by conducting finite element analysis of the model to which reinforcing frame are added in the composite carbody structure. In addition, modal analysis was conducted to estimate the natural frequency of a train.
Construction of concrete slab track is trending to increase gradually in national and international for reduction in track maintenance cost and secure of ride comfort. But elastic pad becomes superannuated due to repeated train operation. After all, it brings change of pad stiffness and it could directly act on track and bridge as load transmission and impact force. In this study, we carried out laboratory test changing pad stiffness after making a model of 15m bridge and laying concrete slab track. Also, we carried out static and dynamic behaviors test(stress, natural frequency, damping ratio, vibrational acceleration, deflection) of bridge and track and experimentally analyzed them by change of elastic pad stiffness on rail fastener.

Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) is a typical flow-structure interference phenomenon which causes an unsteady flow pattern due to vortex shedding at or near the structure's natural frequency leading to resonant vibrations. VIV may cause premature fatigue failure of marine risers and pipelines. A test model was carried out to investigate the role of a stationary fairing by varying the caudal horn angle to suppress riser VIV taking into account the effect of wake interference. The test results show significant reduction of VIV for risers disposed in tandem and side-by-side. In general, fairing with a caudal horn of $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ are efficient in quelling VIV in risers. The results also reveal fairing can reduce the drag load of risers arranged side-by-side. For the tandem configuration, a fairing can reduce the drag load of an upstream riser, but will enlarge the drag force of the downstream riser.
A method is presented for the vibration analysis of steam turbine-generator rotor system based on the component mode synthesis method. The motion of each component of the system is described by superposing constraint mode associated with boundary coordinates and constrained normal modes associated with internal coordinates. This method using real fixed-interface modes allows for significant reduction in system model size while retaining the essential dynamic characteristics of the lower modes. The capability of this method is demonstrated in the natural frequency and unbalance response analysis of the steam turbine-generator rotor system in which the dynamics of the pedestal is considered. The results by the present method are compared with finite element method and trnasfer matrix method in terms of the accuracy and computing time.
