Some Features of Dye-sensitized Solar Cell Combining with Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes

  • A dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) was fabricated with a nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ film electrode on FTO glass, N719 dye, electrolytes (or $CsSnI_3$), and counter Pt electrode by incorporating it with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). SWNTs were combined with $TiO_2$ film, $CsSnI_3$, Pt electrode, separately, and the SWNT-containing cell was compared with a pristine cell in cell performance. We also examined the performance change by pressing $TiO_2$ film, during cell fabrication, inside a high pressure chamber. Mostly, the change of conversion efficiency was compared for each cell, and an atomic force microscopy data were suggested to explain our results.

  • Natural convection of a magnetic fluid is different from that of Newtonian fluids because magnetic body force exists in an addition to gravity and buoyancy. In this paper, natural convection of a magnetic fluids(W-40) in a cubic cavity is examined by numerical and experimental method. One side wall was kept at a constant temperature($25^{\circ}C$), and the opposite side wall was also held at a constant but lower temperature($20^{\circ}C$). Under above conditions, various magnitudes of the magnetic fields were applied up. GSMAC scheme is used for a numerical method, and the thermo-sensitive liquid crystal film(R20C5A) is utilized in order to visualize wall-temperature distributions as an experimental method. This study has resulted in the following fact that the natural convection of a magnetic fluids is controlled by the direction and intensity of the magnetic fields.

  • Borate 완충용액에서 Zn의 부동화 피막이 생성되는 과정과 부동화 피막의 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. 이 때 생성되는 산화피막은 Mott-Schottky 식이 적용되는 n-형 반도체 성질을 보였으며, ZnO와 $Zn(OH)_2$로 구성되어 두 종류의 주개(깊은 주개와 얕은 주개)가 존재함을 알 수 있었다.

  • Borate 완충용액에서 Fe의 산화 반응 경로와 생성된 산화피막의 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. Fe는 pH에 의존하는 두 가지의 반응 경로에 의하여 산화되었으며 산화된 피막은 Mott-Schottky 식이 적용되는 n-형 반도체 성질을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • Humidity sensing cheracterisrics of vacuum deposited plasma poly merized $YbPc_2$ films were evaluated. In both films, humidity caused an increase of pro-ton conduction. Polymerised film shows a threshold fo humidity increase and its sensitivity diminishes more than $38^{\circ}C$ of relative humidity. Furthermore, for the polymerized film, two min. of resssponse time and 1 min. of recovery time are also obtained. The sensitivity between 10% and 85% of relative hum-idities is found to be one hundred higher than that of the vacuum deposited film.

키토산/셀룰로오스 아세테이트 복합필름의 제조와 특성 (Preparation and Characterization of Chitosan/Cellulose Acetate Blend Film)

  • Chitosan(CS) and cellulose acetate(CA) composite films were prepared using formic acid as a cosolvent by casting, solvent evaporating and neutralization method. This study examines if the blending method, which uses formic acid as a cosolvent is efficient in improving the mechanical properties of CS film, especially wet strength and elongation. Formic acid is an effective cosolvent for the blend of CS and CA. Under wet condition, tensile strength and elongation of the composite films were obviously higher than those of the films made from pure CS. FTIR, DSC, and X-ray diffraction showed that the composite films exhibit a high level of compatibility and that strong interaction between the CS and CA was caused by intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The affinity series of composite film to transition metal ions are Cu(II) > Cd(II) > Cr(III). The adsorption of Cu((II) ion was shown to be highly pH sensitive.

Development and Characterization of Asymmetric Swelling-Induced Wrinkles on Natural Rubber Surface

  • Characteristics of the swelling-induced wrinkles on the surfaces of natural rubber (NR) film were investigated. The wrinkle structure was generated by swelling of NR film pre-stretched and firmly bonded onto an aluminum substrate in hexane. A novel experimental method was adopted to replicate the swelling-induced wrinkles on the NR film using an epoxy-hardener system. To get insight into the wrinkle parameters; the wrinkle length (L), wrinkle distance (D), wrinkle height (H) and the angle between two consecutive wrinkles (${\theta}$), the cross-sections of the replicas obtained from saturated swollen NR film were examined using an optical microscopy (OM). From the OM images, the wrinkling parameters were measured as a function of the thickness of NR film from 0.42 to 1.76 mm. Also, it was evaluated that the effects of swelling time on the wrinkling parameters. The length (L), distance (D) and height (H) of wrinkles increased as the thickness of the NR film and the swelling time increased. However, the angle between the wrinkles (${\theta}$) showed a sharp decrease up to a swelling time of 200 minutes and slightly decreased afterwards.

Tribological Properties of Carbonaceous Ingredients such as Natural Graphite, Artificial Graphite, and Cokes in Automotive Brake Friction Materials

  • Influences of carbonaceous ingredient as a solid lubricant in automotive friction materials on friction properties were studied. Three types of carbonaceous ingredients such as natural graphite, artificial graphite, and cokes were mixed using a constrained mixture design. A 1/5 scale brake dynamometer was used to obtain tribological properties. Results showed that cokes substantially increased the friction coefficient, and natural graphite effectively reduced stick-slip phenomena. This significant difference was attributed to the formation of the friction film on the brake pad which was shown to be strongly dependent on the graphite types. The different crystal structures of the carbonaceous solid lubricants played a significant role in the formation of friction film at the interface.

PARAMETER STUDY ON PLASMA-POLYMERIZATION OF LANTHANIDE DIPHTHALOCYANINE FILMS FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICES

  • Lanthanide diphthalocyanines have interesting properties on electrochemical and chemical redox reactions. It is however, difficult to use because of thier short device life. Plasma-polymerization attends to improvement thier device life. Yb-diphthalocyanine ($YbPc_2$) polymer film was deposited in a parallel plate electrodes-type RF plasma reactor. $YbPc_2$ was sublimed into the argon plasma, and polymer film was obtained on a substrate. Radio frequency was constant of 13.56MHz. Pressure of argon gas, sublimation rate of $YbPc_2$ and RF power were variable parameters depending on film quality. Surface of polymer films include a lot of sub-micron order lumps. It was indicated that size of lumps depends on polymerization degree controled by parameters. Size of lumps and polymerization degree are increased with RF power. However, by the high RF power over 40W, polymerization degree is decreased with RF power and surface of film is rough. In condition of RF power is high, polymerization will compete with etching of film. We obtained good films for electrochromic display with RF power of 20W, argon gas pressure of 8.0 Pa and sublimationrate of $1.2 \times 10$ mol/min, and good films for gas sensor with RF power of 30W, argon gas pressure of 10.6Pa and sublimation rate of $1.2 \times 10$ mol/min.
