  • This research has a purpose to examine the actual conditions of natural dyeing program as a personal learning experience, participants' characteristics and common people's interest on natural dyeing nowadays. To examine the actual conditions of natural dyeing center and programs, many web sites and newspapers dealing with natural dyeing were used as main resources. As common people's interest on natural dyeing increased, there were a lot of natural dyeing centers in around country. To examine the interest on natural dyeing and the participants' characteristics of natural dyeing program, the data was obtained from a convenient survey of 326 respondents over 15 years old during 15th, May~30th, July in 2006. Almost 40% of respondents were interested in natural dyeing, but only 19% of respondents had ever participated in natural dyeing experience program. The participants' characteristics such as motivation, participating time, dyeing sources and materials, etc. were examined. Almost 65% of respondents were satisfied with natural dyeing experience. As long as people have interest on natural dyeing, Industrialization of natural dyeing will be advanced.

  • The purposes of this study are to examine the conditions of natural dyeing experience program as a personal learning experience and consumer's interest and the participants characteristics of natural dyeing program so as to collect the practical data about natural dyeing program. To examine the interest and the participants characteristics of natural dyeing program, the data was obtained from a convenient survey of 326 citizens and tourists over 15 years old from Gwangju-city and Bosung in Chonnam during May 15${\sim}$July 30 in 2006. It was analyzed by frequency and t-test using SPSS 10.0. The results of the survey were: 1) The 40% of respondents are interested in natural dyeing. 2) Only 19% of respondents have ever participated in natural dyeing experience program. 3) The participants characteristics such as motivation and time of participation, item and source of natural dyeing according to natural dyeing program were various. 4) 65% of respondents were satisfied with natural dyeing experience. As the number of participants of natural dyeing increases, consumer awareness about natural dyeing will increase and finally industrialization of natural dyeing may be advanced.

  • Recently, there is a trend to utilize natural dyes in many dyeing fields. In this work, the effects of benzyl alcohol in human hair dyeing with cochineal, a natural dye, was investigated. We investigated the K/S value and color value of dyed hair, water retention of dyed hair, protein release-ability of dyed hair, and wash fastness of dyed hair according to dyeing time and temperature. The shade of dyed hair was reddish. By adding benzyl alcohol in cochineal dyeing, the dyeing rate was increased and the dyeing equilibrium was established at early stage. The water retention of dyed hair was increased and the protein release-ability of dyed hair was decreased, meaning that the hair was less damaged during dyeing, The dyed hair showed a good wash fastness.

  • Human hair is a kind of fibrous keratin which has much cystine residues like wool fiber. It protects human head from the dangerous shock and is an organ to release heavy metals in human body. Recently, in many dyeing field there is a trend to utilize the natural dyes. Cochineal is a reddish natural mordant dye. When the cochineal is applied in human hair dyeing, it is expected that dyeing rate will be slow and wash fastness will be poor on account of large molecular weight relative to oxidative dyes. In this work, we investigated the effects of tributyl phosphate in hair dyeing with natural dye cochineal. Dyeability of hair increased significantly by adding tributyl phosphate in cochineal dyeing. Nevertheless the hair was slightly damaged during dyeing, the dyed hair showed a good wash fastness.

  • This study researched the status and prospect of the natural dye program in the Gyeongsang region, with a focus on private centers with sufficient infrastructure and abundant human resources available for natural dyes. Metropolitan cities do not own the drying house and the agricultural land for natural dyes as well as have difficulty securing the land; therefore, entire sites are limited and smaller as they are closer to the city. The one-time program of all centers has been researched to help promote and maintain centers rather than generate profit. It is shown that June-August (summer) is preferred over December-February (winter). Natural dye programs for hobby and education are operated as needed because the number of participants are low. This program uses natural indigo and Persimmon Juice for the dyeing raw materials. Programs are often outsourced by other institutes with a private certification registration system the starting of a business after obtaining certification are often found in institutes operating programs directly. Future plans do not include investments in facilities (like the enlargement of experience centers) the prospect of programs and business value is bright for business strategies that include an exhibition shop for natural dye products and program development.

  • The antioxidant activities of brownish natural dyeing agents, extracted from seven kinds of plants, were tested. Total polyphenol content, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, and singlet oxygen quenching effect were determined for hot water extracts and floral waters of plants. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activites increased with increasing amounts of the extracts from Uncaria gambir R. and Terminalia chebula R. displayed remarkable scavenging effects at concentrations below 0.1 mg/mL, in comparison with the positive control, ascorbic acid. However, antioxidant effects of the floral water, obtained from steam distillation of tested plants, were inefficient at concentration below 0.2 mg/mL. In particular, the natural dyeing agent effectively suppressed singlet oxygen induced by photosensitizer in in vitro assay systems. The concentrations ($IC_{50}$) required to exert 50% of singlet oxygen were 120 and $190{\mu}g/mL$ for hot water extracts from Uncaria gambir R. and Phellinus linteus, respectively. Among all the tested samples, the Uncaria gambir R. and Phellinus linteus extracts contained higher amount of total phenolic contents. The results suggest that naturally occurring dyeing agents are beneficial as natural antioxidants, encouraging further extensive studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of underwear consumer's underwear purchasing behavior through survey. 630 questionnaires were distributed in Seoul and Chonju and 618 with usable data were analyzed frequency and factor analyses, t-test etc. using SPSSWIN 10.0. program. The results were summarized as follows : Most male consumers buy underwears at discount stores whereas most female consumers at chain store. Throughout all four seasons, more male and female consumers do not wear heat-retaining underwears. Most male and female consumers do not have function-fiber underwears nor functional-finishing and natural-dyeing-treated underwears. Most consumers are not satisfied with these underwears. The most important criteria for most male consumers to choose underwears are comfort levels while in action, the sense of touch, comfort levels while wearing them while not in action, pleasance levels; whereas for females are comfort levels while in action, and comfort levels while wearing them while not in action. Male consumers prefer a little bigger-than-their-bodies size, dry and soft fabrics, plain white color; whereas female consumers prefer a little tight size, dry and soft fabrics and plain beige color, Most consumers want to buy functional-fiber underwears made of yellow- soil-and-charcoal-dyeing fabrics which has jade.

  • To develop the traditional tea culture into tourism product, we will review the characteristics of traditional tea culture. Since our ancestor introduced tea, our tea culture has expressed the culture and spirit of ancestors' life and practiced the body and mind. Based on this facts, we want to build the program for applying.the tea culture into the characteristics of tourism products. The program for tea culture is following; reception; visiting the Korean Tea Museum consisting of reception room, tea-related document room, tea pottery room and korean traditional dress room; experiencing tea ceremony, tea traditional foods, natural dyeing, tea pottery making and tea etiquette; seeing visitors out. However, we didn't evaluate the satisfaction of tourists from Japan, China, America and Europe who participated in this program through the objective data. But they understood the excellency and creativity of Korean traditional culture through experiencing Korean invisible-visible culture. Therefore this study intends to develop the program for the attractive and differentiated culture tourism and build the competitive model of Korean culture tourism product.
