Natural photosynthesis utilizes solar energy to convert carbon dioxide and water to energy-rich carbohydrates. Substantial use of sunlight to meet world energy demands requires energy storage in useful fuels via chemical bonds because sunlight is intermittent. Artificial photosynthesis research focuses the fundamental natural process to design solar energy conversion systems. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide ($NAD^+$) and $NADP^+$ are ubiquitous as electron transporters in biological systems. Enzymatic, chemical, and electrochemical methods have been reported for NADH regeneration. As photochemical systems, visible light-driven catalytic activity of NADH regeneration was carried out using platinum nanoparticles, molecular rhodium and cobalt complexes in the presence of triethanolamine as a sacrificial electron donor. Pt nanoparticles showed photochemical NADH regeneration activity without additional visible light collector molecules, demonstrating that both photoactivating and catalytic activities exist together in Pt nanoparticles. The NADH regeneration of the Pt nanoparticle system was not interfered with the reduction of $O_2$. Molecular cobalt complexes containing dimethylglyoxime ligands also transfer their hydrides to $NAD^+$ with photoactivation of eosin Y in the presence of TEOA. In this photocatalytic reaction, the $NAD^+$ reduction process competed with a proton reduction.

The catalytic steam reforming of woody biomass tar and soot to convert a synthetic gas containing hydrogen was investigated by using a bench-scale biomass gasification system. One commercial nickel-based catalyst, Katalco 46-6Q, and two different kinds of natural minerals, dolomite and olivine, were tested as a reforming catalyst at various reforming temperatures. The reaction characteristics of woody biomass tar were also investigated by TGA at a variety of heating rates. With all three catalysts conversion efficiency of tar and soot increased at increasing temperature. The reforming of tar and soot in the synthetic gas induce the increase of combustible gases such as $H_2$, CO and $CH_4$ in the product gas. The nickel-based catalyst showed a higher tar and soot conversion efficiency than mineral catalysts under the same temperature conditions.
Considering the fact that more than $97\%$ of fossil energy resources such as oil and natural gas needed in Korea rely on import, primary concern of the national economy is to secure future energy sources. Gas hydrates. which is non-conventional types of natural gas, distribute worldwide, especially in marine and permafrost Gas hydrates draw great attention recently as a new clean energy resources substituting conventional oil gas due to its presumed huge amount of volume reaching 10 trillion tons of gas and environmentally friendly characteristics. Results of preliminary survey by Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) and Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) showed that gas hydrates can be present in deep sea over 1,000m water depth in the East Sea. Gas hydrates can contribute to the rapidly increasing consumption of natural gas in Korea and achieve the self-support target by 2010 with $30\%$ of total natural gas demand. This study presents the potentialities and development prospects of gas hydrate as a future energy source.

Recently, Korea parliament legislated the Low Carbon Green Growth Act (April, 2012) and approved a bill (May, 2012) to start carbon emission trading system in 2015. It means that for the first time, government would regulate the amounts of carbon emission in private entities, and private entities should attain predefined emission reduction goals by implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) project or buy the Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) from the trading market to avoid penalty. Under these circumstances, it is not easy for them to determine when or how to implement the CDM project because the governmental energy policies about the level of governmental subsidies, periods for free emission allocation, etc. are still under discussion and the future price of the CERs is quite uncertain. Thus, this study presents a real-option based model to assess the financial viability of the CDM project which switches bunker-C oil to liquefied natural gas (LNG). The proposed model is expected to assist private entities in establishing the investment strategy for CDM project under uncertain government energy policies.
According to most of energy sector experts, at least in the next two decades, fossil energy plays important role in fulfilling required energy in the world. Based on these conditions, the investigation of the conditions of major countries providing natural gas in the world can be useful in analysis of future development of this clean fuel. According to the latest estimations of British Petroleum Company, Iran with 18.2% natural gas reservoirs has the first natural gas reservoirs in the world. The main purpose of this paper is developing scenarios of gas industry in Iran. To achieve the mentioned goals, besides investigation of existing methods of scenario design and existing production scenarios, natural gas export and consumption in Iran and the world in 2035, the most important scenarios of gas industry in Iran are formulated by critical uncertainty analysis approach using quantitative advanced time based impact analysis in 2035 horizon.
Solar energy is most green and clean, unlimited and sustainable energy source on the earth. It is almost 97% of imported consumer energy in Korea. Because of resource poor nation, it is necessary to do their best to make alternative energy to allot their deficiency of the matter in hand of energy resources of petroleum. In a point of view of this problems, the natural solar energy should be improved by any methods as much, possible as we need. Photovoltaic generation with solar tracking system for obtaining optimal power is one of most benefit equipment to improve power of solar-cell panel producing clean electric power efficiently. Solar tracker is a device for orienting a solar photovoltaic panel toward the sun perpendicularly to sunlight, especially in widely separated place. For this reason, we are very interested in developing the equipment system of tracker, specially in solar cell applications, obtaining a high degree of accuracy to ensure that the optimal sunlight could be directed precisely against to the powered device. As a result, it was obtained of 12.46 volts at 90$^\circ$toward solar panel and 9.44 volts at 45$^\circ$, furthermore, improved efficiency more than 30% of average output voltage between tracker system (12.41V) and fixed system (8.55V), respectively. It is also very useful for optimum power system of widely separated cave.

An energy crisis is expected in near future. Fossil fuel such as oil and natural gas has been used and will be no longer supplied enough to demand in the beginning of coming century. The use of the fuel makes a lot of environmental pollution to threaten human being's health especially in big cities and produces a lot of $CO_2$ to make green house effect of the earth. It is the time to use clean fuel such as hydrogen to prevent the expected energy crisis and the pollution. A new engine such as fuel cell can be used instead of the conventional internal combustion engine with 2 to 3 times higher efficiency of the conventional engine. The fuel cell uses hydrogen and oxygen and produces electric energy and pure water, which is a calm engine without air pollution. In big cities the city buses and the taxies powered by hydrogen fuel cells are suggested to be operated for clean environment. A model of the total energy system for production, transportation and utilization of hydrogen is calculated.
This study was reviewed on the bioethanol production from biomass resources and feedstock supply in America. U.S. Department of Energy (USDE) and the u.s. Department of Agriculture USDA) are both strongly committed to expand the role of biomass as an energy source. They support biomass fuels and products as a way to reduce the need for oil and gas imports, to strengthen the nation's energy security and environmental quality. And it was envisioned a 20 percent replacement of the current U.S.transportation fuel consumption in 2030. Also it was reviewed policies to encourage the expanding of Bio-based fuel use to replace gasoline, such as Clean Air Act, Federal Clean Fuel Program and American Jobs Creation Act. In feedstock supply it was assumed forest biomass will be supplied in 368 million dry tons yearly and the agriculture derived biomass adopted by new technologies and land use change will be supplied in 998 million dry tons, including highly 818 million dry tons of lignocellulosic biomass such as perenial crops (hybrid trees, grasses) corn stover, other crop residues. This amount is 5 times to the amount from based current agricultural technology and crop land.
The feasibility of clean technology to minimize the $CO_2$ emission by recycling and reuse the waste materials and energy have been studied for the cement industry. A life cycle assessment (LCA) was performed for an alternative raw material-supply method to use the molted slag as the major raw material in the cement clinker manufacturing. Using this new method, a 60% of $CO_2$ could be reduced that comes out during the decarboxylation from the cement rotary kiln. The energy-efficiency improvement and the alternative energy methods that had been determined in our previous study through the environmental assessment of cement industry were applied to the study for the reduction of $CO_2$ emission. The natural gas, one of the fossil fuels, was also used as the first choice to get the result at the earliest time by the most economic and the most efficient green technology and to switch into the carbon neutral energy consumption pattern.
