A Study on Lip Sync and Facial Expression Development in Low Polygon Character Animation (로우폴리곤 캐릭터 애니메이션에서 립싱크 및 표정 개발 연구)

  • We described how to implement character expressions and animations that play an important role in expressing emotions and personalities in low-polygon character animation. With the development of the video industry, character expressions and mouth-shaped lip-syncing in animation can realize natural movements at a level close to real life. However, for non-experts, it is difficult to use expert-level advanced technology. Therefore, We aimed to present a guide for low-budget low-polygon character animators or non-experts to create mouth-shaped lip-syncing more naturally using accessible and highly usable features. A total of 8 mouth shapes were developed for mouth shape lip-sync animation: 'ㅏ', 'ㅔ', 'ㅣ', 'ㅗ', 'ㅜ', 'ㅡ', 'ㅓ' and a mouth shape that expresses a labial consonant. In the case of facial expression animation, a total of nine animations were produced by adding highly utilized interest, boredom, and pain to the six basic human emotions classified by Paul Ekman: surprise, fear, disgust, anger, happiness, and sadness. This study is meaningful in that it makes it easy to produce natural animation using the features built into the modeling program without using complex technologies or programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine ways to vitalize cause related marketing (CRM) by proposing character T-shirts The campaign will employ Neo-Pop art, a genre popular with both companies and consumers. Study results are as follows: First, campaign T-shirts on the issue of human alienation resulting from digitalization can be utilized to generate financial profit that can be returned to society. This can lead to the acts of exchange for profit generation, public image improvemen of companies, and enhancement of their external status. As for the non-financial aspect, the campaign could lead to increased awareness of social issues and present opportunities to take actions of improvement. Second, the financial objective of character T-shirts dealing with environmental issue of sustainability involves brand distribution network support and revitalization of promotion such as shopping basket of love and eco-friendly store matching program for eco-friendly campaign. As for the non-financial aspect, it can help raise consumers' awareness of cause related activities such as crowd funding and fundraising and prepare opportunities of direct participation. Third, the financial objective of character T-shirts dealing with natural disaster relief activities on the global level involves brand recognition level increase and enhancement of positive association of companies through emergency relief and articles support as a result of drastic increases in casualties from nature disasters. As for the non-financial aspect, it can induce people's participation in relief activities and lead to the establishment of crisis response procedures. The information on the development of pop-art character T-shirts proposed in this study is expected to be used as basic information on cause marketing of fashion companies in the future, while providing inspiration to related fashion design.

  • Two freshwater cyclopoid species including a new species are added to Korean copepod fauna: Ochridacyclops coreensis n. sp. and Itocyclops yezoensis (Ito, 1953). Both species were collected from the semi-subterranean waters like springs and wells. The present paper deals with the description of the new species and the systematic accounts on the two species, based on the morphological character comparison with the related congeners.

  • Conservation is the optimum sustained use of natural resources; therefore, cave conservation must provide not only for the protection of the character, decoration and biota of caves, but also for the means whereby people might enjoy and understand the caves that are their heritage. A cave is a natural subterranean cavity into which a man can enter to a point where daylight cannot be seen. Caves are not only interesting physical entities that provide distinctive sensory and perceptual experiences and invoke a variety of responses, but they also provide unique opportunities for scientific study. Speleology is the study of caves, and in New Zealand it attracts workers from many disciplines of the universities and government research establishments.(omitted)

  • Objectives : To define an everyday ethics for students and doctors of Korean Medicine, people who desire treatment, cultivation and healing through Korean Medical means by determining its conditions and characteristics. Ways of constructing its contents fit for contemporary society were discussed. Methods The threefold Heaven-Earth-Human theory, Yinyang theory, circulation of the Five Phases along with contents of classics such as 『Huangdineijing(黃帝內經)』, 『Guanzi(管子)』, 『Zhongyong(中庸)』, 『Daxue(大學)』, 『Beijiqianjinyaofang(備急千金要方)』, 『Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)』 were newly interpreted or quoted for explanation. Results : The elements that construct natural ethics and Natural Ethics were established as following: the natural perspective of Nature and People, natural sustainability as fundamental principle, co-existence and initiative circulation as fundamental rules, education and cultivation of lay people, and professional character and competence. Conclusions : The authors suggest a reconstruction of the inherent philosophy, ethics, principle, rule, life guidelines of Korean Medicine within the framework of "natural ethics" and "Natural Ethics" as a prior task for better integration of traditional KM into contemporary society.

Significance of "Pre-Study Post-Designation" Strategy in Natural Monument Designation System: With Special Reference to Geologic Heritage

  • Many problems in naming natural monuments have been repeatedly argued by many researchers, and four different types of naming problems were identified: 1) name of unknown nationality (natural monument no. 82 and 108), 2) morphological name rather than scientific name (natural monument no. 180, 295, and 409), 3) name of fable character (local cultural property of Changnyeonggun), and 4) scientifically wrong name (natural monument no. 413). Among them, two cases (case 3 and 4) using wrong names are found in natural monument of geologic heritages, which should be ascribable to a hasty designation without an accurate and thorough scientific research. In order to solve these problems and to establish an ideal policy in designating natural monument, National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage has been carrying out a research project of "Pre-study and Post-designation (PSPD)", especially targeting the rod-shaped stromatolite. It is likely that this new strategy of PSPD is a unique and the first step to solve many problems in designating and naming geologic heritages as natural monuments. As a consequence, we strongly suggest that PSPD system must be applied to natural monument designation as an institutional arrangement.

  • The coral is precious and organic gemstone. It is Beautifully Red color. Coral jewelry have been used for a long time in Asia. Especially in Korea, The Coral is an traditional and popular gemstone. It is significant to get the base data for the purpose of distinguishing natural coral from imitation coral by comparing about gemmological character in this study. Color, luster, transparency, streak color, refractive index, hardness, chemical reaction, ultraviolet fluorescence, specific gravity, observation of microscope and XRD analysis were conducted for identification of natural and imitation coral. As a result, natural coral has usually $CaCO_3$ composition and calcite structure. But, it is known that imitation coral impregnate calcic and dyeing materials with pigment. And they were distinguished also from not only XRD analysis but also a few simple experiments like specific gravity, refractive index and chemical reaction. Natural coral is harder and luster then imitation coral. In breaking method, the streak color is used certification.

  • How to represent the search space is as important as which search algorithm to use for finding natural-looking paths for moving NPC (non-player character) in computer games. Recently, various state space representation methods which have been developed for computer games are being used while A* algorithm dominates as the preferred search algorithm. These representation methods show some drawbacks such as the size of state space is too large, there is no guarantee for optimality, the path found is not natural-looking, and the generation of nodes and links is not automatic by depending on a level designer. In this paper the requirements for natural-looking paths are introduced and to find paths satisfying these requirements, the use of the generalized visibility graphs which is the extended version of the visibility graph in Robotics is proposed.
