Probabilistic Reliability Analysis of KEPCO System Using TRELSS

  • The importance of conducting necessary studies on grid reliability evaluation has become increasingly important in recent years due to the number of blackout events occurring throughout the world. Additionally, quantitative evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important in a competitive electricity environment. The reason behind this is that successful operation of an electric power company under a deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management. The results of many case studies for the Korea Electric Power Cooperation (KEPCO) system using the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems (TRELSS) Version 6.2 are illustrated in this paper. The TRELSS was developed by EPRI and Southern Company Services Inc. This paper presents the reliability analysis of KEPCO system expansion planning by using the TRELSS program.

  • This study is to propose ways to improve the system for rational procedures for offshore wind power generation projects. The results of this study are summarized as follows. In order to quickly distribute and develop offshore wind power projects, the permitting period should be shortened through special laws, the government actively intervenes to support the formation and operation of privat-public councils to ensure residents' acceptance. In this way, it can be competitive in the future energy market. Above all, a special law (proposal) related to offshore wind power currently pending in the National Assembly should be passed as soon as possible. Finally, the government and local governments that manage public waters should provide active administrative support based on system improvement measures in consideration of these permits, and the project's main body should minimize damage to the marine environment and ecosystem. Through these subject-specific roles, offshore wind power generation will be able to reduce carbon emissions and help establish a sustainable energy production system.

  • The primary purpose of this paper is to identify the cognition of the convergence human resource for firms. For this purpose, Data have been collected from 110 firms in Daejeon city and studied the convergence human resource which recognized by firms on the company competitive power level. The results of this empirical studies are summarized as fellows. We classified in company competitive power as leading chaser, innovators and late chaser. In the talent, leading chasers demanded the total designer, problem solver and insighter, innovators demanded the total designer, problem solver and specialist, and late chasers demanded the traditional humanity. In technology management, all group think important fields. In the demanding forecasting for the market and technologies, leading chasers and innovators demanded the CEO, R&D researcher and a middle manager as the important position. For this education, they demanded the convergence ability of other technologies, the up-to-date abilities of product and technology and the understandings of market needs. In the convergence talent or leader, leader chaser and innovator demanded the specialist who attempted to combine others industries, who know well in technology and management, and the specialist who attempted to combine others technologies. But, late chaser demanded the specialist who attempted to combine others industries.

Necessity Analysis and Link Budget of Two Way Paging Earth Station for Satellite (양방향 무선호출 위성 지구국 시스템의 필요성 분석 및 위성 링크 설계)

  • Recently, appearing of various wireless telecommunications services, the competitive power of paging service is requested. In this paper, two-way paging earth station for satellite was proposed and designed to enhance the competitive power of cost and technique, and the link budget of this two-way paging networks using Koreas at was discussed. To reduce the cost of remote station, the antenna and HPA size of Hub and remote station were differently designed, and an idea of power allocations of inbound and outbound carriers was proposed and utilized in this link budget of two-way earth station for using satellite. The results of this link budget were follows. At the 0.043% time rate of rain, antenna size of Hub and remote station were 3.7m and 1.2m, the HPA size of Hub and remote station were 10.37W and 2.0W, and power allocations of outbound and inbound were 84% and 16% respectively. At the 0.02% time rate of rain, the antenna size of Hub and remote station were 3.7m and 1.8m and power allocations of outbound and inbound were 63% and 37% respectively.

  • Relative importance of maritime transport that takes charge of main current of freight in country' economy is very large. Especially, port and facility carry out important role which treats freight of import and export smoothly and improves international trade as turning point, to achieve key role on connection and association between sea and land. For such reason, enlargement of port facilities or development of port needs to grasp exactly the utilization of port, attributes and selective factors of shipper. On the other hand, the amounts of physical distribution on Mokpo port located in Korean west coast are increasing, with fast economic growth of East Asian including China. This study uses discrete choice model that is measuring to analyze attribute and characteristic of Mokpo port, and analyzes port selection by decision factors of shipper. This paper composed a questionnaire using the result of preceding research, to decide port selection factor among competitive ports. Through factor analysis on a basis of the questionnaire' result, five principal components were extracted. These are resorted out by Logit model, to grasp competitive elements of port. This research fin present direction which raises competitive power of ports in west coast of Korea, especially on alternative and concentration of middle-class port as Mokpo may be useful.

This paper presents the probabilistic reliability evaluation for 765KV transmission lines of KEPCO grid expansion planning. The Transmission Reliability Evaluation for large-Scale Systems (TRElSS) Version 6.2, a software package developed by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is utilized in determining the improved probabilistic reliability indices of (KEPCO) system.

This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.2, a program made in EPRI, for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The package accesses not only bulk but also buses indices for reliability evaluation of composite powers system. The characteristics of the TRELSS program are illustrated by the case studies using the KEPCO system

  • Vertical axis wind turbine, despite of its limit in power efficiency, the simplicity in structure and maintenance is a competitive factor that keeps this type of turbine in the game until nowadays. Continuous solutions have been given to handle its major weakness and the use of omni-directional guide vane is an considerable one. In this paper, a 5kkW scale Savonius-based wind turbine enhanced with such guide vane system was design and studied. Together with reasonable blade design, the wind turbine shows promising performance compared with basic design while maintaining its original advantages.

The various results of many case studies for the IEEE 25buses system using the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 5_1, a program made in EPRI are introduced in this paper. Some sensitivity analysis has been included. This paper suggests that the some important input parameters of the TRELSS can be determined optimally from this sensitivity analysis for high reliability level operation of a system.
