On the Degradation of a UWB System Due to a Realistic TX-RX Antenna System

  • The ultra-wideband (UWB) signal radiation process in an antenna is different from that of a narrowband signal. In this paper, we study the degradation of the desired signal component according to the antenna structure and location of a receiver in a bipolar time-hopping UWB system. And we propose a receiver structure with an adaptive template waveform generator to compensate for the degradation caused by a realistic TX-RX antenna system.

  • 본 논문에서는 미지의 반송파주파수를 가진 협대역 신호의 존재를 광대역에서 검출하는 문제를 고려하였다. DFT 전력 스펙트럼을 평균화하여 주파수 영역에서 Neyman-Pearson criterion을 사용하여 신호를 검출하는 방법을 사용하였다. 평균화된 DFT 스펙트럼의 통계적 특성과 검출 threshold 및 검출 확률을 분석하여 보았다.

A Study on the Narrow-band Interference Rejection in DS Spread-spectrum Systems (DS 스펙트럼 확산 시스템의 협대역 간섭 제거에 관한 연구)

  • A new lattice structure using decision feedback and augmented prediction for estimating and suppressing the narrowband interference is presented. The performance of the proposed interference canceller is compared to the conventional interference cancellation filter. The reference signal of the interference canceller is formed by using the chip decisions, which is correlated with the narrowband interference components of the received signal. The decision feedback technique reduce the distortion of the desired signal which is introduced by the interference canceller through the use of feedback chip decisions. And by linear prediction of the error signal, the residual interference component of can be eliminated, Using this unconteminated error signal to update the adaptive filter coefficients, the performance of the rejection can be improved. In the simulation, it is assumed that the processing gains are 7 and 15, signal to interference ratio is -10[dB], and 5% interference band. The results show that the BER performance of the proposed filter structure is improved by 1~3dB.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system is robust to frequency selective fading and narrowband interference in high-speed data communications. However, an OPDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers and the superposition of these subcarriers causes a problem that can give a large PARR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). PTS(Partial Transmit Sequence) scheme can reduce the PAPR by dividing OFDM signal into subblocks and then multiplying the phase weighting factors to each subblocks, but computational complexity for selecting of phase weighting factors increases exponentially with the number of subblocks. Therefore, in this paper, MG-PSO(Modified Greedy algorithm-Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm that combines modified greedy algorithm and PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm is proposed to use for the phase control method in PTS scheme. This method can solve the computational complexity and guarantee to reduce PAPR. We analyzed the performance of the PAPR reduction when we applied the proposed method to telecommunication systems.

  • In this paper, Analyzed Performance of TH/UWB(Time Hopping/Ultra Wideband after Impulse Radio) system in interference environment by existing system that use same frequency band. In case interference fraction ratio is below 0.1, consider and analyzed in case influence through interference in IR system that is shared in 3.1 - 10.6 GHz band hereafter as case that use very small and narrow band than IR system such as 80 MHz bandwidth of ISM band or 802.1la's use bandwidth 20 MHz in 5 GHz band. According to result, we could know that Performance change according to possession band width of interference shows greatly than size of interference electric power. Also, interference fraction ratio is big (more than 0.1) narrowband interference in partial band interference environment, could get Performance improvement of big width increasing pulse repetition number. But, could know that do not influence hardly in system performance when interference fraction ratio is small (below 0.1) narrowband interference. Therefore, may receive the best system performance and transfer efficiency by set the most suitable pulse repetition number according to bandwidth fraction ratio of interference through correct interference fraction ratio estimation and apply proper interference suppression techniques.

Designing a Quantizer of LPC Parameters for the Narrowband Speech Coder using Block-Constrained Trellis Coded Quantization (블록 제한 트렐리스 부호화 양자화 기법을 이용한 협대역 음성 부호화기용 LPC 계수 양자화기 설계)

  • In this paper, low complexity block constrained trellis coded quantization (BC-TCQ) structures are introduced, and a predictive BC TCQ encoding method is developed for quantization of line spectrum frequencies (LSF) parameters for narrowband speech coding applications. Trellis-coded quantization(TCQ) is a form of VQ that builds the VQ codebook from interleaved constituent scalar quantization codebooks. The performance is compared to the other VQ, demonstrating reduction in spectral distortion and significant reduction in encoding complexity. The predictive BC-TCQ is about 0.47107 dB superior to the IS-641 split-VQ, 26bits/frame, in spectral distortion sense. The BC-TCQ is 64.54%, 76.93%, 2.35% of the IS-641 split-VQ, respectively, in the complexity of the additions, multiplies, comparisons.

  • The objective of this study is to assess plastic deformation in aluminium alloy by acoustic nonlinearity of laser-generated surface waves. A line-arrayed laser beam made by high-power pulsed laser and mask slits is utilized to generate the narrowband surface wave and the frequency characteristics of laser-generated surface waves are controlled by varying the slit opening width and slit interval of mask slits. Various degrees of tensile deformation were induced by interrupting the tensile tests so as to obtain aluminum specimens with different degrees of plastic deformation. The experimental results show that the acoustic nonlinear parameter of a laser-generated surface wave increased with the level of tensile deformation and it has a good correlation with the results of micro-Vickers hardness test and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) test. Consequently, acoustic nonlinearity of laser-generated surface wave could be potential to characterize plastic deformation of aluminum alloy.

  • Passive sonar system is designed to classify the underwater targets by analyzing and comparing the various acoustic characteristics such as signal strength, bandwidth, number of tonals and relationship of tonals from the extracted tonals and frequency lines. First of all the precise detection and extraction of signal frequency lines is of particular importance for enhancing the reliability of target classification. But, the narrowband frequency lines which are the line formed in spectrogram by a tonal of constant frequency in each frame can be detected weakly or discontinuously because of the variation of signal strength and transmission loss in the sea. Also, it is very difficult to detect and extract precisely the signal frequency lines by the complexity of impulsive ambient noise and signal components. In this paper, the automatic detection and extraction method that can detect and extract the signal components of frequency tines precisely are proposed. The proposed method can be applied under the bad conditions with weak signal strength and high ambient noise. It is confirmed by the simulation using real underwater target data.

However, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, which can give a large PAPR (peak-to-Average Power Ratio) when added up coherently. In this paper, we propose a new PAPR reduction method using Adaptive Sine Soft Clipping (ASS Clipping) to solve the PAPR problem. The proposed method reduce the PAPR and out-of-band spectrum by cutting down high frequency components. From computer simulation results, we analyze the PSD (Power Spectral Density) and BER (Bit Error Rate) performance as well as PAPR reduction performance when the ASS Clipping method is applied to OFDM system.

  • Formation flying is an important technology that enables high cost-effective organization of outer space aircrafts. The ad-hoc wireless network based on direct-sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) techniques is seen as an effective means of establishing wireless communication links between aircrafts. In this paper, based on the theory of matched filter and error bits correction, a hybrid detection algorithm is proposed for realizing multiuser detection (MUD) when the DS-UWB technique is used in the ad-hoc wireless network. The matched filter is used to generate a candidate code set which may contain several error bits. The error bits are then recognized and corrected by an novel error-bit corrector, which consists of two steps: code mapping and clustering. In the former step, based on the modified optimum MUD decision function, a novel mapping function is presented that maps the output candidate codes into a feature space for differentiating the right and wrong codes. In the latter step, the codes are clustered into the right and wrong sets by using the K-means clustering approach. Additionally, in order to prevent some right codes being wrongly classified, a sign judgment method is proposed that reduces the bit error rate (BER) of the system. Compared with the traditional detection approaches, e.g., matched filter, minimum mean square error (MMSE) and decorrelation receiver (DEC), the proposed algorithm can considerably improve the BER performance of the system because of its high probability of recognizing wrong codes. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can almost achieve the BER performance of the optimum MUD (OMD). Furthermore, compared with OMD, the proposed algorithm has lower computational complexity, and its BER performance is less sensitive to the number of users.
