This thesis aims to reveal the meanings of SF as a genre in Korea. Most of the studies on the characteristics of SF novels in Korea have revealed the meanings of characteristic elements of SF, or peripherally reviewed the characteristics of works. However, these methodologies have a limitation, such as analysis through the existing methodologies, while overlooking the identity of SF texts with the characteristics as a genre. To clearly define the value of texts in the SF genre, an understanding of the customs and codes of the genre is first needed. Thus, this thesis aims to generally handle matters like the historical context in which Korean SF was accepted by Korean society, and the meanings and characteristics when they were created and built up relationships with readers. In addition to fully investigating SF as a popular narrative & genre narrative that has not been fully handled by academic discourses, this thesis aims to practically reconsider the present/future possibilities of SF, which is currently being reconsidered given that the scientific imagination is regarded as important in the 21^st century. This thesis considers the basic signification of Korean SF texts in academic discourses. Through this work, numerous Korean SF that have not been fully handled in the area of literature and cultural phenomena will be evaluated for their significance within the academic discourses, and also reviewed through diverse research afterwards. As a result, this work will be helpful for the development of discourse and the expansion of the Korean narrative area that has been diversely changed since the 21^st century.

This study measured various types of joint book reading behaviors of parents of preschool children using two different text genres. Participants were the parents of 35 preschool children 4 years of age. Parent-child dyads were videotaped during periods of joint book reading using two different types of text(informational and narrative). Results indicated differences in maternal behavior between the two types of texts. The informational book elicited a higher amount of print concept behaviors and more content behavior while reading the narrative book. Among content-related behaviors parents used more labeling during the informational genre. On the other hand, parents' use of description and judgment were significantly higher in the narrative genre compared with the informational genre.

This article focuses on the image of the ancestor of Quanzhen Daoism from a narrative perspective and also evaluates the influence of this image on the development of Quanzhen Daoism in terms of belief, genealogy, and the compilation of sacred history. Quanzhen Daoism has a rich tradition of narrating andwriting its history. In fact, narrating history is actually a form of constructing history. From the recounting of events such as the birth of the founder of the religion, Wang Chongyang (王重陽, 1112-1170), his conversion to Daoism, his practice and preaching, and his 'ascent to immortality' in Quanzhen historical hagiographies, readers can observe the recording of miracles as a narrative feature. The narratives of religious texts differ from ordinary historical narratives in that the former maintain the core concern of simultaneously promoting belief in miracles and strengthening the religious lineage of the respective tradition. Therefore, exploring the relationship between the narrative of the image of the ancestor and the development of the Quanzhen Sect, along with the establishment of beliefs, is the starting point of this article.

This study examined the experience of middle-aged women, centering on the home as the residence of never-married children. I conducted interviews with four such women in their 50s and 60s who had experienced the residential independence of never-married children within the past five years, and a variety of field texts were used as research texts. Through reconstructing the participants' experiences, two main themes emerged: experiencing anxiety regarding alienation from their child and expecting to resolve this anxiety through the marriage of their child. The participants were anxious about their never-married children, and this study found that at the root of this was anxiety regarding being alienated from their children. The participants often attempted to visit their children's homes to relieve such anxiety but, as their children often discouraged this, the situation was aggravated. Thus, the participants wished for their children to marry, as they aspired to restore an intimate relationship with them through such an event. These results imply that tensions and conflicts between parents and children may arise due to the independence of never-married children.

In this article, the narrative strategy of Ryusuke Hamaguchi's is researched focusing on multi-layered intertextuality. is framed in the form of a 'story in a story that embraces a story', and the recognition of intertextuality has an important meaning in examining the storytelling strategy of . Because this movie was adapted from the short stories from Haruki's , the various stories included in the film overlap to form the overall narrative. Therefore, in order to understand properly, it is important to understand the organic semantic relationship between the texts in the movie. Understanding the narrative of is also the process of interconnecting textual content of multiple texts included in the film. In , the dream story told by Otto, Gafuku's wife, the main character, and in the play are elaborately linked to the narrative of the entire film in layers and three dimensions with text in a frame. Hamaguchi reinforces the need for the audience through the intertextual narrative strategy of . In addition, the metaphor and personalized space of contributes to the effective delivering the narrative of healing to the audience.

Many difficult literary texts have been disregarded by the teachers as well as the students in the EFL context. The abridged version, however, has its pedagogical usability when viewed as an extension of the literary text like movies and comic strips. Legible abridgments boost up the critical mind among the learners by enhancing their involvement in responding more actively to each class. In addition, to study an abridged version makes the future teachers accustomed to use it as a usable material. Abridgment has its efficacy in the literary study, too: reader-response criticism and narrative scholarship. First, the learners' creative engagement to the text encourages them to draw their personal experiences which are made up of the basic storyline. Second, a personal experience linked to the story has a relationship to narrative scholarship proposed in contemporary ecocriticism. Narrative scholarship is a new academic trend that merges the writer's personal experience in physical surroundings with the text which describes the same or similar natural environment. The role of teachers is a key to succeed in the abridged version pedagogy. They can facilitate a web of learner, text, and social context by providing a friendly atmosphere to encourage students' active participation, as well as supplementary materials of the original text.

A variety of writing support systems focus on the information management or the feature analysis of the commercially successful narrative texts. In these approaches, the reader's role in the narrative creating process is overlooked. During a writing work, an author anticipates the reader's response or expectation to the narrative and he/she organizes the narrative either along or against the prediction about readers. Assessing and controlling the reader's comprehension in the development of events influences the aesthetic quality of the narrative. In this paper, we suggest a writing support system to visualize and adjust the characteristics of a narrative text related to the reader's comprehension, which is theoretically based on the narrative structure model and the event-indexing situation model. Under the development of the support system, we designed an interactive framework to create events as the basic units of story and arrange them onto both story- and discourse-time axes. Using this framework, we analyzed the organization of events about an actual film narrative. We also proposed both the continuity of the situational dimensions and the cognitive complexity as the characteristics to affect the reader's comprehension, hence we devised a method to visualize and evaluate them. This method was applied to the actual film narrative and the result was discussed in the aspect of the features of the narrative and wiring support strategies.

This study attempted to investigate the issue how stepmother's narrative was transferred to . For this agenda, the approach of this paper is described below to determine how Bbaengdeok's stepmother narrative was transferred episodically to . First, this paper started from the relation between stepmother narrative and affiliated with each root folk tale in Buddhist text. Among known as root folk tale until now, this paper investigated whether was the root folk tale affiliated to Buddhist literature. At that point, stepmother narrative showed relation with opening eyes motive. It has been reported that the text of opening eyes in Buddhist literature is originated from the south. This paper confirmed that 's stepmother narrative was related to Buddhist literature originated from south. Next, this paper investigated the background of opening eyes motive of stepmother types. After entering Gyeongpan , it formed Bbaengdeok narrative of Wanpan related to Literary geography of Jeollado enjoying space of Wanpan . There are two evidences for this. The first one is which was passed down around Jeollado. In the course of sudden Buddhist folklore's flow into the country, it is that combined stepmother narrative of sudden Buddhist literature with the characteristics of northern Buddhist literature which was reconstructed into son's filial behavior of northern Buddhist literature to make father's blinded eyes open. The other is the Buddhist trend of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined. It appeared that stepmother narrative was formed in the Buddhist background of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined.

As Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 3 concluded in 2019, it is time to systematically analyze the phenomenal storytelling of the franchise. In order to identify the structure of the continuous stories focusing on 'Iron Man', the central character of MCU Phase 1-3, this study used the "Save the Cat (STC)" paradigm as the tool for narrative analysis. The eight films with 1,066 minute-run time in total was analyzed based on the 15-beat STC paradigm by adjusting the distance ratio between each beat of its prototype originally based on standard films of 110 minute-run time. The results reveal that all 15 beats of the combined texts were fairly properly discovered in the positions suggested by the adjusted STC paradigm. Moreover, through the investigation, the vast text was able to be analyzed in a more comprehensive manner in the process of reconfirming the meaning of the dramatic reversals corresponding to each beat against the entire narrative. As expected, the STC paradigm proved to be a meaningful signpost for plot drives even for such a vast text. Therefore, it is believed that application of this paradigm would help not only analyze but also design other serialized franchises as well. Prior to that, however, it would be necessary to further examine the combined texts for other major characters in MCU or other franchises designed in a similar form to MCU movies through the same paradigm to verify effectiveness of such application.

Korean dramas since the 2000s are continuously experimenting with new narrative possibilities. Especially in the recent Korean drama, various modes of hybridization, mixing, and transformation are attempted. Therefore, this study aims to examine the consensus of literature and drama through popular drama in 2010. This study examines how literary texts are utilized in dramas through the use of Kim Eun-sook's lonely and glorious god-goblin and gentleman's dignity, and how these narrative and visual effects are gained. These two dramas are not only popular drama in Korea but also have important implications for interpreting literature and drama consciousness because they actively utilize literary texts in drama. This is the process of interpreting the main scene in which literature and the drama conspire, and grasping its significance. Through this study, we analyze the process of borrowing the part of the text of the text, drama, and taking the effect of storytelling by using 'book' as its materiality. This will confirm the way in which various genres are mixed and juxtaposed in one video text and its effects.
