The fusion of nano technology and information technology is essential to sustain the present growth rate and to induce new industry in this ever-growing information age. Considering Korean industry whose competitiveness lies heavily on information related technologies, this field will be inevitable for future. Nano materials can be described as novel materials whose size of elemental structure has been engineered at the nanometer scale. Materials in the nanometer size range exhibit fundamentally new behavior, as their size falls below the critical length scale associated with any given property. " Bottom-up' techniques involve manipulating individual atoms and molecules. Bottom-up process usually implies controlled or directed self assembly of atoms and molecules into nano structures. It resembles more closely the processes of biology and chemistry, where atoms and molecules come together to create structures such as crystals or living cells. Nano scale sensors are included in the electronics area since the diverse sensing mechanisms are often housed on a semiconductor substrate and usually give rise to an electronic signal. The application of nano technology to the chemical sensors should allow improvements in functionality such as gas sensing. In this presentation, we will discuss about the nano scale information materials and devices fabricated by using the organic/inorganic nano templates.
This paper describes how the gold particles self assemble on the specific phase on the microphase separated block copolymer thin film and form a well ordered patterns. For this study, polystyrene-polybutadiene-polystyrene (PS-PB-PS) triblock copolymer (30wt % PS) thin films (${\sim}100nm$) having a cylindrical morphology were cast from 0.1wt% toluene solution to be used as polymer thin film templates. The films having either vertical PS cylinders or in-plane PS cylinders in PB matrix from each different solvent evaporation condition were obtained. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy(TEM) was used to study the surface and bulk morphologies of block copolymer thin films. Small amount of gold particles was evaporated on a block copolymer thin film template to obtain a nano-scale pattern. When an as-cast thin film template was used, gold particles preferentially self assemble on the low surface tension PB phase and a relatively well ordered pattern in nano-scale was produced. However, after the formation of a low surface energy PB rich layer upon annealing, a gold self-assembled pattern was not observed.
This investigation deals with a size-dependent coupled thermoelasticity analysis based on Green-Naghdi (GN) theory in nano scale using a new modified nonlocal model of heat conduction, which is based on the GN theory and nonlocal Eringen theory of elasticity. In the analysis based on the proposed model, the nonlocality is taken into account in both heat conduction and elasticity. The governing equations including the equations of motion and the energy balance equation are derived using the proposed model in a nano beam resonator. An analytical solution is proposed for the problem using the Laplace transform technique and Talbot technique for inversion to time domain. It is assumed that the nano beam is subjected to sinusoidal thermal shock loading, which is applied on the one of beam ends. The transient behaviors of fields' quantities such as lateral deflection and temperature are studied in detail. Also, the effects of small scale parameter on the dynamic behaviors of lateral deflection and temperature are obtained and assessed for the problem. The proposed GN-based model, analytical solution and data are verified and also compared with reported data obtained from GN coupled thermoelasticity analysis without considering the nonlocality in heat conduction in a nano beam.

The shrinking critical dimensions of modern technology place a heavy requirement on optimizing feature shapes at the micro- and nano scale. In addition, the use of ion beams in the nano-scale world is greatly increased by technology development. Especially, Focused ion Beam (FIB) has a great potential to fabricate the device in nano-scale. Nevertheless, FIB has several limitations, surface swelling in low ion dose regime, precipitation of incident ions, and the re-deposition effect due to the sputtered atoms. In recent years, many approaches and research results show that the re-deposition effect is the most outstanding effect to overcome or reduce in fabrication of micro and nano devices. A 2D string based simulation software AMADEUS-2D $(\underline{A}dvanced\;\underline{M}odeling\;and\;\underline{D}esign\;\underline{E}nvironment\;for\;\underline{S}putter\;Processes)$ for ion milling and FIB direct fabrication has been developed. It is capable of simulating ion beam sputtering and re-deposition. In this paper, the 2D FIB simulation is demonstrated and the characteristics of ion beam induced direct fabrication is analyzed according to various parameters. Several examples, single pixel, multi scan box region, and re-deposited sidewall formation, are given.

This paper studies forced vibrational behavior of porous nanocrystalline silicon nanoshells under radial dynamic loads using strain gradient theory (SGT). This type of material contains many pores inside it and also there are nano-size grains which define the material character. The formulation for nanocrystalline nanoshell is provided by first order shell theory and a numerical approach is used in order to solve nanoshell equations. SGT gives a scale factor related to stiffness hardening provided by nano-grains. For more accurate description of size effects due to nano-grains or nano-pore, their surface energy influences have been introduced. Surface energy of inclusion exhibit extraordinary influence on dynamic response of the nanoshell. Also, dynamic response of the nanoshell is affected by the scale of nano-grain and nano-pore.

We have replicated nanopillar arrays using injection molding process of active heating and cooling method by several peltier devices. The injection melding has a high accuracy ed good reproducibility that are essential for mass production at low cost. Conventional molding processes widely use the water-based mold heating and air cooling methods. However, in case of replication for nano-patterned structures, it caused several defects such as air-flow mark, non-fill, sticking and tearing. In this study, periodic nano-scale patterns are replicated by using injection molding with Peltier devices. Porous nano-scale patterns, which have pore diameter range from 120nm to 150nm, were fabricated by using anodizing process. Periodic nano-pore structures ( $20mm\;{\times}\;20mm$) were used as a mold stamp of injection molding. Finally, PMMA with nanopillar arrays was obtained by injection molding process. By using the Peltier devices, the temperature of locally adiabatic molds can be dramatically controlled and the quality of the molded patterns can be slightly improved.

In this study, we propose an advanced nanoindentaion test, Nano Pillar Compression Test (NPCT) to measure a stress-strain relation for micro scale polymer structures. Firstly, FEM analysis is performed to research behavior of micro polymer pillars in several specimen aspect ratios and different friction conditions between specimen and tip. Based on the FEM results, micro scale UV-curable polymer pillars are fabricated on a substrate by Nano Stereo Lithography (NSL). To measure their mechanical properties, uniaxial compression test is performed using nanoindentation apparatus with flat-ended diamond tip. In addition, the dependency of compression properties on loading condition and specimen size are discussed.

As the trench width in the interconnect technology decreases down to nano-scale below 50 nm, superconformal gap-filling process of Cu becomes very critical for Cu interconnect. Obtaining superconfomral gap-filling of Cu in the nano-scale trench or via hole using MOCVD is essential to control nucleation and growth of Cu. Therefore, nucleation of Cu must be suppressed near the entrance surface of the trench while Cu layer nucleates and grows at the bottom of the trench. In this study, suppression of Cu nucleation was achieved by treating the Ru barrier metal surface with capacitively coupled hydrogen plasma. Effect of hydrogen plasma pretreatment on Cu nucleation was investigated during MOCVD on atomic-layer deposited (ALD)-Ru barrier surface. It was found that the nucleation and growth of Cu was affected by hydrogen plasma treatment condition. In particular, as the plasma pretreatment time and electrode power increased, Cu nucleation was inhibited. Experimental data suggests that hydrogen atoms from the plasma was implanted onto the Ru surface, which resulted in suppression of Cu nucleation owing to prevention of adsorption of Cu precursor molecules. Due to the hydrogen plasma treatment of the trench on Ru barrier surface, the suppression of Cu nucleation near the entrance of the trenches was achieved and then led to the superconformal gap filling of the nano-scale trenches. In the case for without hydrogen plasma treatments, however, over-grown Cu covered the whole entrance of nano-scale trenches. Detailed mechanism of nucleation suppression and resulting in nano-scale superconformal gap-filling of Cu will be discussed in detail.

We discovered the formation of C60 aggregates in solution by means of photoluminescence spectroscopic study on C60 in solutions. From the in-depth investigation of temperature dependence of the luminescence of C60 in toluene, benzene and CS2 solutions, we reported that the C60 aggregates are formed during cooling at the freezing temperature of these solvents. Furthermore, the C60 aggregates can be changed to stable structures by irradiating with UV pulse-laser (Nd:YAG laser, 355nm). As a consequence, we could obtain nano-scale photo-polymerized C60 clusters, which appear as round-shaped nano- scale particles in high resolution transmission electron-microscopy (HRTEM) images. However, the yield of the nano-scale C60 clusters obtained by this method is too small. So we designed and developed a system to obtain C60 cluster of macroscopic quantity by using ultrasonic nebulizer. In this system, C60 solution was vaporized to several micro-sized droplets in vacuum, resulting in the formation of C60 aggregates by evaporating solvent (toluene). The system was invented to produce nano-scale carbon clusters by the irradiation of UV light upon C60 aggregates in vacuum. We have characterized the products, C60 cluster, obtained from the system by using UV absorption spectra and HPLC spectra. Although the products have a possibility of inclusion various forms of C60 cluster, results support that the product formed from the system by using vaporizer method establishes a new method to obtain C60 cluster in macroscopic quantity. In the presentation, the details of the system and the results of characterization are reported.
