QCM기반 NO2와 SO2 감지용 센서시스템 (A QCM-based Sensor System for Detecting NO2 and SO2)

  • Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)을 기반으로 기체 흡착센서 시스템을 구성하기 위하여 감지물질, 코팅방법, 희석가스 및 온도의 영향 등이 면밀하게 검토되었다. 특히 주요 대기 오염물질로 알려진 $NO_2$$SO_2$를 감지할 수 있도록 polypyrrole과 poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) 고분자 물질이 코팅된 QCM 센서소자를 구성하였으며, 만들어진 센서소자들은 ppm 수준의 농도에서 두 가스에 대한 높은 선택성과 감도를 보였다. 센서소자의 감지특성과 응답속도는 감지물질의 코팅방법과 코팅량에 크게 의존하였다.

  • Coating layers on a coated sheet steel frequently affect distributions of strain rate of sheets and deteriorate the frictional characteristics between sheets and tools in sheet metal forming. Thus, it is important to identify the deformation behavior of these coatings to ensure the success of the sheet forming operation. In this study, the technique using nano-indentation test, FE-simulation and Artificial Neural Network(ANN) were proposed to determine the power law stress-strain behavior of coating layer and the power law behavior of extracted coating layers was examined using FE-simulation of drawing and nano-indentation process. Also, deep drawing test was performed to estimate the formability and frictional characteristic of coated sheet, which was calculated using the linear relationship between drawing force and blank holding force obtained from the deep drawing test. FE-simulations of the drawing process were respectively carried out for single-behavior FE-model having one stress-strain behavior and for layer-behavior FE-model which consist of coating and substrate separately. The results of simulations showed that layer-behavior model can predict drawing forces with more accuracy in comparison with single-behavior model. Also, mean friction coefficients used in FE-simulation signify the value that can occur maximum drawing force in a drawing test.

A Study on the Friction and Wear Properties of Tribaloy 800 Coating by HVOF Thermal Spraying

  • Tribaloy 800 (T800) powder is coated on the Inconel 718 substrate by the optimal High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating process developed by this laboratory. For the study of the possibility of replacing of the widely used classical chrome plating, friction, wear properties and sliding wear mechanism of coatings are investigated using reciprocating sliding tester both at room and at an elevated temperature of $1000^{\circ}F\;(538^{\circ}C). Both at room temperature and at $538^{\circ}C$, friction coefficients and wear debris of coatings are drastically reduced compared to those of non-coated surface of Inconel 718 substrate. Friction coefficients and wear traces of both coated and non-coated surfaces are drastically reduced at higher temperature of $538^{\circ}C$ compared with those at room temperature. At high temperature, the brittle oxides such as $CoO,\;Co_3O_4,\;MoO_2,\;MoO_3$ are formed rapidly on the sliding surfaces, and the brittle oxide phases are easily attrited by reciprocating slides at high temperature through complicated mixed wear mechanisms. The sliding surfaces are worn by the mixed mechanisms such as oxidative wear, abrasion, slurry erosion. The brittle oxide particles and melts and partial-melts play roles as solid and liquid lubricant reducing friction coefficient and wear. These show that the coating is highly recommendable for the durability improvement coating on the surfaces vulnerable to frictional heat and wear.

  • Silver films have been of considerable interest for years due to their better performance relative to other metal films for engineering applications. A series of multi-layer silver coatings with different thickness (i.e. 0.3 um to 1.5 um) were prepared on Aluminium substrate containing copper undercoat by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering method. For the comparative purpose, similar thickness silver coatings were prepared by electrolytic deposition method. Microstructural, morphological, and mechanical characteristics of the silver coatings were evaluated by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Surface roughness test, microhardness test and nano-scratch test. From the results, it has been elucidated that the silver films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering method has superior properties in comparison to the wet coating method. On the other hand, DC magnetron sputtering method is relatively easier, faster, eco-friendly and more productive than the electrolytic deposition method that uses several kinds of hazardous chemicals for bath formulation. Therefore, a New Work Item Proposal (NWIP) for the test methods standardization of DC magnetron sputtered silver coatings has recently been proposed via KATS, Korea and a NP ballot is being progressed within a technical committee "ISO/TC107-metallic and other inorganic coating".

산화아연-탄소나노튜브 복합체의 일산화질소 가스 감지 특성 (NO Gas Sensing Properties of ZnO-Carbon Nanotube Composites)

  • The NO gas sensing properties of ZnO-carbon nanotube (ZnO-CNT) composites fabricated by the coaxial coating of single-walled CNTs with ZnO were investigated using pulsed laser deposition. Upon examination, the morphology and crystallinity of the ZnO-CNT composites showed that CNTs were uniformly coated with polycrystalline ZnO with a grain size as small as 5-10 nm. Gas sensing measurements clearly indicated a remarkable enhancement of the sensitivity of ZnO-CNT composites for NO gas compared to that of ZnO films while maintaining the strong sensing stability of the composites, properties that CNT-based sensing materials do not have. The enhanced gas sensing properties of the ZnO-CNT composites are attributed to an increase in the surface adsorption area of the ZnO layer via the coating by CNTs of a high surface-to-volume ratio structure. These results suggest that the ZnO-CNT composite is a promising template for novel solid-state semiconducting gas sensors.

  • We investigated that effects of annealing ambient on the characteristics of functional nano thin film synthesized on glass substrate. The functional nano thin films were annealed by using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) equipment in vacuum, oxygen and nitrogen ambient, respectively. The hardness of the functional nano thin films were measured by a standard hardness testing method (ASTM D3363) such as a H-9H, F, HB and B-6B pencil (Mitsubishi, Japan). Also, the adhesion of the functional nano thin films were measured by a standard adhesion testing method (ASTM D3359) using scotch tape (3M, Korea). The contact angle of the functional nano thin films was measured by a contact angle analyzer (Phoenix 300 Touch, S.E.O.). The optical property of functional nano thin films was measured via UV-visible spectroscopy (S-3100, Scinco).

  • 도파민은 홍합 모방물질로 표면개질 가능한 표면의 다양성과 편리한 개질 방법으로 인해 여러 분야에서 각광받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 도파민 표면개질 방법을 최적화 시켜 수분 안에 기존의 특성에 변화를 주지 않고 표면개질이 가능 하도록 개선시켰다.

HSS엔드밀의 PVD코팅 및 성능평가 (The Evaluation of PVD Coated HSS Endmill)

  • To enhance the cutting performance of high speed steel(HSS) endmill, single and multilayer coating is applied on the substrated of the HSS endmill. Coating material reduces cutting force and enhances resistance against abrasive wear. This paper presents the physical vapour deposition(PVD) coating technology and evaluate the PVD coated HSS endmill. The performance of coated HSS endmills are fifteen times better than uncoated HSS endmill on proposed cutting conditions. The TiAlN monolayer coated endmills(futura nano coating) are better than those of multilayer coated endmills(futura coating) on machined surface and tool wear.
