Evaluation and Comparison of the Solubility Models for Solute in Monosolvents

  • The solubility of Cloxacillin sodium in ethanol, 1-propanol, isopropanol, and acetone solutions was measured at different temperatures. The melting property was also tested by using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Then, the solubility data were fitted using Apelblat equation and λh equation, respectively. The Wilson model and NRTL model were not utilized to correlate the test data, since Cloxacillin sodium will decompose directly after melting. For comparison purposes, the four empirical models, i.e., Apelblat equation, λh equation, Wilson model and NRTL Model, were evaluated by using 1155 solubility curves of 103 solutes tested under different monosolvents and temperatures. The comparison results indicate that the Apelblat equation is superior to the others. Furthermore, a new method (named the calculation method) for determining the Apelblat equation using only three data points was proposed to solve the problem that there may not be enough solute in the determination of solubility. The log-logistic distribution function was used to further capture the trend of the correlation and to make better quantitative comparison between predicted data and the experimental ones for the Apelblat equation determined by different methods (fitting method or calculation method). It is found that the proposed calculation method not only greatly reduces the number of test data points, but also has satisfactory prediction accuracy.

Development Of A Windows-Based Predictive Model For Estimating Sediment Resuspension And Contaminant Release From Dredging Operations

  • A windows-based software package, named DREDGE, is developed for estimating sediment resuspension and contaminant release during dredging operations. DREDGE allows user to enter the necessary dredge information, site characteristics, operational data, and contaminant characteristics, then calculates an array of concentration using the given values. The program mainly consists of the near-field models, which are obtained empirically, for estimating sediment resuspension and the far-field models, which are obtained analytically, for suspended sediment transport. A linear equilibrium partitioning approach is applied to estimate particulate and dissolved contaminant concentrations. This software package which requires only a minimal amount of data consists of three components; user input, tabular output, and graphical output. Combining the near-field and far-field models into a user-friendly windows-based computer program can greatly save dredge operator's, planners', and regulators' efforts for estimating sediment transports and contaminant distribution.

  • This paper provides a frame-layer method for controlling bit rate of compressed video data in real time. Our approach is easy to operate and can store encoded video data in real time without deteriorating the quality of an image. To provide ameliorated and consistent visual quality, a new concept named SOP (Set Of Pictures) and a new quantization parameter variation control algorithm based on a second-order rate-distortion model 〔2〕 are introduced. The total bit-budget is allocated efficiently to cope with unpredictable recording time by using the proposed algorithm and it is distributed to each frame. In the end, we show improved and consistent video quality with experimental results obtained from C-model of a MPEG-4 (simple-profile) encoder.

정보 블록 정렬 알고리즘에 관한 연구 (A Study on Information Block Sort Algorithm)

  • 본 논문에서는 O(NlogN) 의 시간 복잡도와 데이터의 분포상태에 영향을 받지 않는 정보블록 정렬알고리즘(IBSA : Information Block Sort Algorithm)을 제안하고, 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 그 성능을 평가하였다. 2백만 개의 랜덤 데이터를 이용하여 IBSA의 성능을 측정해본 결과, 퀵 정렬의 22%, 개선된 퀵 정렬의 36% 정도의 비교회수만으로도 정렬할 수 있음을 보여주었다.

큐브위성 STEP Cube Lab.의 지상국 시스템 설계 (Design of Ground Station System for CubeSat STEP Cube Lab.)

  • CubeSats classified as pico-class satellite require a ground station to track the satellite, transmit a command, and receive an on-orbit data such as SOH (State-of-Health) and mission data according to the operation plan. For this, ground station system has to be properly designed to perform a communication to with the satellite with enough up- and down-link budgets. In this study, a conceptual design of the ground station has been performed for the CubeSat named as STEP Cube Lab. (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project). The paper includes a ground station hardware interface design, link budget analysis and a ground station software realization. In addition, the operation plan of the ground station has been established considering the STEP Cube Lab. mission requirements.

확장된 Fuzzy 집락분석방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on an Extended Fuzzy Cluster Analysis)

  • We consider the Fuzzy clustering which is devised for partitioning a set of objects into a certain number of groups by assigning the membership probabilities to each object. The researches carried out in this field before show that the Fuzzy clustering concept is involved so much that for a certain set of data, the main purpose of the clustering cannot be attained as desired. Thus we propose a new objective function, named as Fuzzy-Entroppy Function in order to satisfy the main motivation of the clustering which is classifying the data clearly. Also we suggest Mean Field Annealing Algorithm as an optimization algorithm rather than the. ISODATA used traditionally in this field since the objective function is changed. We show the Mean Field Annealing Algorithm works pretty well not only for the new objective function but also for the classical Fuzzy objective function by indicating that the local minimum problem resulted from the ISODATA can be improved.

  • In this study, an expert system was developed to predict the safety of tunnel and choose proper tunnel reinforcement system using fuzzy quantification theory and fuzzy inference rule based on tunnel information database. The expert system developed in this study have two main parts named pre-module and post-module. Pre-module decides tunnel information imput items based on the tunnel face mapping information which can be easily obtained in-situ site. Then, using fuzzy quantification theory II, fuzzy membership function is composed and tunnel safety level is inferred through this membership function. The comparison result between the predicted reinforcement system level and measured ones was very similar. In-situ data were obtained in three tunnel sites including subway tunnel under Han river, This system will be very helpful to make the most of in-situ data and suggest proper applicability of tunnel reinforcement system developing more resonable tunnel support method from dependance of some experienced experts for the absent of guide.

  • 센서 네트워크는 다수의 센서 노드들이 싱크(sink) 노드와 데이터 중심(Data centric) 기반으로 통신을 하게 되는데 이때 사용되는 라우팅 알고리즘 중 한 가지가 Directed Diffusion이다. Directed Diffusion 은 싱크(sink)의 named data 질의 방송(diffuse)에 기반을 둔 라우팅 프로토콜(protocol)로 다수의 소스 노드와 다수의 싱크 노드의 상황에서도 효율적으로 동작한다는 점과 각각의 질의에 의한 라우팅 경로 중에 aggregation 과 caching을 수행할 수 있다는 장점을 갖는다. 그러나 강화된 gradient 패스를 얻기 위해 요구되는 부담이 크다는 단점을 갖는다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 interest 패킷에 hop-count를 도입하여 gradient가 과다하게 설정되는 것을 제한함으로써 에너지 사용 효율을 높일 수 있는 개선된 Directed Diffusion 알고리즘을 제시한다. 또한 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 알고리즘의 유용성 확인을 확인하고자 한다.

후퇴각 날개끝이 있는 헬리콥터 로터깃의 회전주파수 해석 (Rotating Frequency Analysis of a Helicopter Rotor Blade with Swpt Tips)

  • To reduce the drag rise on the advancing helicopter rotor blade tips, the tip of the blade is modified to have sweep, anhedral and pretwist. The equations of motion of rotor blade with these tip angles were derived using Hamilton principle, programmed using FORTRAN and named as ARMDAS(Advanced Rotorcraft Multidisplinary Design and Analysis System). Rotating frequency analysis of rotor blades with swept tipe was performed that is necessary in conceptual and preliminary design phases of the helicopter design. Vibration analysis of non-rotating blades was also accomplished and compared with MSC/NASTRAN resutls for the basis of comparison with the vibration test data. The rotating frequency analysis of blades with an actual rotor blade data was also performed to verify coded program and to check the possibility of a resonance of an actual rotor blade at the specific rotating speed.

  • This paper proposes a new method of estimating the position and heading angle of a mobile robot moving on a flat surface. The proposed localization method utilizes two passive beacons and a single rotating ultrasonic sensor. The passive beacons consist of two cylinders with different diameters and reflect the ultrasonic pulses coming from the sonar sensor mounted on the mobile robot. The geometric parameter set of beacon is acquired from the sonar scan data obtained at a single mobile robot location using a new data processing algorithm. Form this parameter set, the position and heading angle of the mobile robot is determined directly. The performance and validity of the proposed method are evaluated using two beacons and a single sonar sensor attached at the pan-tilt device mounted on a mobile robot, named LCAR, in our laboratory.
