Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NS) was defined by Abrams et al. in 1973 as a reactive necrotizing inflammatory process involving minor salivary glands of the hard palate. Before that recognition, many patients with this condition had been improperly treated because of its clinical and histologic resemblance to malignancy such as mucoepidermoid carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. We report two cases of necrotizing sialometaplasia. One case involved a 58-year-old male who had an ulcerative palatal lesion exposing underlying bone which has the typical features of the above mentioned condition. Another case involved a 59-year-old male who developed a necrotizing sialometaplasia in association with a dome-shaped palatal swelling which was proved as an adenoid cystic carcinoma after operation biopsy.

Purpose - The study was designed to explore and examine the business relationships of the owners and the employees of Market Basket to analyze the implications of their recent turbulence and decisions. This article focused on two issues - business profit and labor union - to describe the uniqueness of this case. Design, methodology, data, and approach - This article, based on its purpose, applied all three approaches of case studies that are identified and described by Stake (1995), instrumental, intrinsic, and collective, to present the core nature of the issue and to improve and gain a clear understanding of this particular phenomenon. Results - The analysis of this case clearly indicates that seemingly dichotomous concepts of profit and employee welfare are not necessarily antithetical to each other Conclusions - The instant case of Market Basket serves as a testimonial for the rejection of the basic premises of corporate profits and labor unions. This case serves as a model and a practical example for many large retailers, especially the family operated retailers, and workers throughout the world.

The weight of shoes may serve as a determining factor of perceived comfort and feel to the consumer in their purchase and repurchase decisions of footwear. People, however, seem to have trouble in accurately judging the feeling of weight of shoes on their feet. This paper made a psychophysical study of subjects′ sensitivity to weight on their feet and in their hands. The experiment consisted of 3 tests according to the motions people make when they evaluate the feel of shoes: 1) vertical lifting of a shoe on the foot ("hefting" in on the foot) 2) swing the shod foot back and forth; 3) holding and lifting a shoe by hand ("hefting" it in the hand). The method of constant stimuli and magnitude estimation were used for the experiment with 20 subjects. Weber′s ratios and the power law exponents obtained for each of the three tests were 0.156 and 0.713, 0.108 and 0.970, and 0.065 and 1.249, respectively in the same order of the previously listed tests.

This paper proposes a novel electrical characterization approach for a high-performance package system using an improved Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC). As the effect of interconnects becomes a pivotal factor for the performance of high-speed electronic systems, there is a great demand for an accurate equivalent model for interconnects. In particular, an equivalent model of interconnects is established in this paper for the Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) package using the improved PEEC method. Based on the equivalent model, electrical characteristics are analyzed; furthermore, these are verified through the measurement results of a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA).

A reflective array type surface acoustic wave(SAW) dispersive delay line(DDL) with high time-bandwidth at the V/UHF-band is designed and fabricated for compressive receiver applications. This type of the SAW DDL has the properties of the relative bandwidth of 20 %, the time delay of 49.89 usec, the insertion loss of 38.5 dB and the side lobe rejection of 39 dB. In comparison with a commercial SAW DDL, the insertion loss, amplitude ripple and side lobe rejection are improved by $1.5dB{\pm}0.6dB$ and 4 dB respectively. Using the fabricated SAW DDL, the prototype of the compressive receiver is developed. It is composed of RF converter, fast tunable LO, chirp LO, A/D converter, signal processing unit and control unit. This prototype system shows a fine frequency resolution of below 30 kHz with high scan rate.

Orofacial pain can be caused by intracranial disorders or can be musculoskeletal, vascular, internal derangemental, and neurologic in origin. The neurologic pain is derived from structural and functional disorders of nerve, and the trigeminal neuralgia is the typical manifestation. Trigeminal neuralgia is known from centuries ago, and is one of the most common pains in human. We present our experience with three patients who have trigeminal neuralgia. The first case is a 50-year-old female who had no specific evidence radiographically. Second is a 50-year-old male with microvascular compression on right trigeminal nerve. The third case is a 60-year-old female who had a neoplasm in cerebellopontine angle with associated mass effect.

This paper presents an algorithm applied to measure scattering parameters of a Multiport device with a 2-port Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). By employing the conversion of Scattering matrix with different reference impedances at ports, data obtained from 2-port configuration measurements can be synthesized to build the full scattering matrix of this device. A good agreement of estimated and measured parameters verified the performance of the algorithm.

Recently, low energy houses have become an essential issue globally and various subsidy programs are ongoing to penetrate. All-electric houses which are another type of low energy houses or zero carbon houses are being developed. These houses consider new & renewable energy and demand side management programs in the construction and the diffusion process because these programs are essential policies to use energy resources reasonably. This paper shows a simulation methodology to control home appliances in all-electric houses considering the electricity consumption pattern of residents. The simulation is a first step to estimate energy saving of the house in a practical manner.

In this study, a star identification algorithm which utilizes pivot patterns instead of apparent magnitude information was developed. The new star identification algorithm consists of two steps of recognition process. In the first step, the brightest star in a sensor image is identified using the orientation of brightness between two stars as recognition information. In the second step, cell indexes are used as new recognition information to identify dimmer stars, which are derived from the brightest star already identified. If we use the cell index information, we can search over limited portion of the star catalogue database, which enables the faster identification of dimmer stars. The new pivot algorithm does not require calibrations on the apparent magnitude of a star but it shows robust characteristics on the errors of apparent magnitude compared to conventional pivot algorithms which require the apparent magnitude information.

Organic/inorganic hybrid materials have rapidly become a fascinating research field. In this study, $polyimide/TiO_2$ composites were synthesized from nano-sized anatase $TiO_2$ and two types of polyimide, that is, BPDA-PPD and PMDA-ODA. Nano-sized $TiO_2$ particles were prepared from $TiOEt_4$ solution by the sol-gel method. The synthesized PI/$TiO_2$ composites were characterized by using XRD, TGA, FT-IR, TEM, and Atomic Force Microscope(AFM). $TiO_2$ particles were dispersed well in polyimides and the mechanical and thermal stability of polyimide was improved with $TiO_2$ nano particles.
