Reduction of Nitrogen Oxide by Fuel Staged Technology on the Combustion of Gasification Fuel (가스화 연료 연소시 단계적 연료주입 기술에 의한 질소산화물 저감)

  • Coal gasification fuel has generally a lower calorific values than natural gas and also contains ammonia which is a main source of fuel NOx. Such a fuel is in need of the advanced technologies for the NOx reduction with higher combustion efficiency. Therefore fuel staged combustion was investigated for the fuel NOx control using a bench scale gas combustoi for the fuel NOx control. Parametric screening studies were performed with the variation of air ratio, retention length and reburning fuel. The NOx reduction efficiency was increased with an increase of total air ratio having optimum reburning air ratio differently, The Increased retention length of the reburning zone was preferable for NOx reduction. Hydrocarbonic reburning fuels like propane and butane were more effective for the NOx reduction efficiency than hydrogen fuel. The NOx concentration at exit was linearly increased according to the fuel-N the fuel.

  • Effect of heterogeneity of combustion chamber has been thought as one of the way to avoid dramatically generating heat in HCCI Combustion. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of heterogeneity, especially thermal stratification and fuel strength stratification on HCCI Combustion fueled with DME and n-Butane. Thermal stratification is formed in Combustion Chamber of Rapid Compression Machine with 3 Kinds of pre-mixture has different properties. The stratified charge mixture is adiabatic compressed and on that process, in cylinder gas pressure and two-dimensional chemiluminescence images are measured and analyzed.

  • In connection with two electron binding energy of each bond of saturated hydrocarbons, C-C bond fission and hydrogen abstraction from C-H bond are discussed by means of two center Huckel method. A beautiful correlation could be noticed between the observed bond dissociation energy and the calculated bond energy except for n-butane. Bond dissociation energies between C-C bond were also related to C-C bond fission. We could also find a very close relation between the relative easiness of hydrogen abstraction and the calculated binding energy of C-H bond. In other words, C-H bonds of tertiary hydrogen have been noticed as most weakely bonded and hence the tertiary hydrogen would most easily from the paraffins. In addition, the C-H binding energy is discussed applying ionic character of C-H bond which is derived from its dipole moment (0.4D)

  • c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) are members of MAPK family. Many genes can relay signals that promote inflammation, cell proliferation, or cell death which causes several diseases have been associated to mutations in the JNK gene family. The JNK2 gene is significantly more important in cancer development than the JNK1 and JNK3 genes. There are several different ways in which JNK2 contributes to breast cancer, and one of these is through its role in cell migration. As a result, this study's primary objective was to employ computational strategies to identify promising leads that potentially target the JNK2 protein in a strategy to alleviate breast cancer. We have derived these anticancer compounds from marine brown seaweed called Turbinaria conoides. We have identified compounds Ethane, 1, 1-diethoxy- and Butane, 2-ethoxy as promising anti-cancer drugs by molecular docking, DFT, and ADME study.

Prevalence of Drug Abuse and Smoking and Dietary Behavior of Male Students at Technical High School

  • To investigate the relationship between eating behavior and the prevalence of adolescents drug abuse and smoking, this survey was conducted among 349 male students(mean age ; 16.0 $\pm$0.9yrs) at technical high schools in Kyunggi-Do. It was shown that 58.7% of total subjects were smoking and 11.2% were abusing drugs. Drug abusers weighed Less than non-abusers especially, student smokers were 2.7kg lighter than non-smokers despite the same height. Although parents' education showed no relationship with drug abuse, educational level of student smokers' fathers was significantly lower than that of non-smokers' fathers. Drug abusers and smokers showed significantly higher incidence of runaway from home, absence from school without notice, and parents' divorce than non-abusers and non-smokers. Drugs abused were sleeping pills(n=20), bonds and butane gas(n=9), marijuana(n=3), tranquilizer(n=3), morphine and cocaine(n=2), and pep pills like amphetamine(n=2) 76.9% of the drug abusers had their first experience in junior high school and 81% of the smokers stared smoking as early as in junior high school. Also, 44% of the smokers reported that they smoke daily. The drug abusers tended to have more irregular eating habits than the non-abusers. The smokers showed irregular mealtime, ate either too fast or too slow, and especially, often skipped lunch or dinner. The drug abusers and smokers took little vegetable in their meals and often ate bread or noodles instead of rice for staples. In addition, they preferred taste to nutrition when they had meals. The smokers tended to ingest smaller amount of calcium source such as milk or dinner food and fish with bone although they consume more volume of total foods than the non-smokers. All subjects took less in calorie, calcium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin E, riboflavin, and folic acid than the Recommended Dietary Allowance Those findings suggest that drug abuse and smoking cause bad eating habits that influence unbalanced nutritional state. Therefore, nutrition education should be provided to the adolescents so that they can recognize the disadvantages of drug and smoking and its relation to dietary relation.   • Partition coefficient related composition of LPG are studied. Analysed sulfur compounds are ethyl mer-captan,n-propyl mercaptan and n-butyl mercaptan. The composition of liquid phase and gas phase in LPG are deter-mined by gas chromatography. The partition coefficient to related the boiling point of sulfur compounds, the temperature and the compositions of solvents, determined by using MLR(multiple linear regression) of SAS is follows; Kpc= $0.61222({\pm}0.6578)-0.04670({\pm}0.000959)Bp+0.26984(\pm0.06504)C4+0.003803(^{\circ}ae0.0019993)Tk,$ N=24, F=14.851, $R^2_{adj}$=0.6437. The boiling points of sulfur compounds at atmospheric pressure and the compositions of LPG effect mostly on partition coefficients. It is presumed that the gas odor elevating effects should be increased, where being on high tem-perature and larger amounts of n-butane.

Exposure Assessment of Volatile Organic Compounds for Workers Handling Rust-preventive Oils (방청유 취급 근로자의 휘발성 유기화합물 노출 평가)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to evaluate the level of exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) among workers handling rust preventive oils. Methods : A total of 30 bulk samples and 54 personal air samples were collected using diffusive samplers at 22 workplaces handling rust preventive oils in Daegu and Gyongsangbuk-do Province from March to October 2013. We also investigated detailed information on the related work conditions, such as kinds of products, handling methods, local exhaustive ventilation systems, and the status of the wearing personal protective equipment. All bulk samples and air samples were analyzed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify components to which workers potentially were exposed. Quantitative airborne concentrations of VOCs were confirmed using gas chromatography with flame ionized detectors. Results : In terms of qualitative analyses for the 30 bulk samples, we found carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic(CMR) substances such as butane(carcinogenic Group 1A, mutagenic Group 1B), butoxy ethanol(carcinogenic Group 2), cumene (carcinogenic Group 2), ethyl benzene(carcinogenic Group 2), methyl isobutyl ketone(carcinogenic Group 2) and toluene (reproductive toxic, Group 2). As a result of full-shift based personal air samples, eight substances such as n-hexane, n-heptane, octane, nonane, decane, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene were detected. Among them, n-hexane and n-heptane were detected in all of 54 air samples with $13.13mg/m^3$ and $8.61mg/m^3$ of maximum concentration, respectively. The level of airborne concentration from all of samples were bellow the occupational exposure limit in Korea. Conclusions : Based on the results of this study, workers handling rust preventive oils could be exposed to CMR substances contained in rust preventive oils and n-hexane and n-heptane were found as the most frequent sources of VOC exposure.

A Study on the VOCs Contamination of Ambient Air int Kyonggi-do Area (III) (경기도 환경대기중 휘발성유기화합물의 오염실태 조사연구 (III))

  • We investigated the concentration degree of VOCs for ambient air in the air environment control area of Kyonggi-do in 2001. The VOCs showing higher concentration were in the ascending order of Toluene > n-Butane > 1-Butene > Benzene > n-Hexane. The concentration distribution ratio mentioned above showed almost same pattern in each city. The relative concentration ratio of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylenes which are aromatic VOCs were 1 : 6.3 : 0.6 : 1.6. It was similar to the pattern in 1999 but different from the pattern in 2000. In the aspect of seasons, the highest B.T.E.X concentration was indicated in fall and in the aspect of areas, the higher concentration showed in the ascending order of Buchon > Ansan > Kwangmyong > Shihung > Sungnam. The average concentration of target VOCs for ambient air in the air environment control area of Kyonggi-do showed lower concentration than the metropolis of Seoul but higher concentration than Kwang-ju city and Dae-gu city. The amount of total VOCs was increasing, comparing with it last year and the more increasing tendency is anticipated so that it will need to establish the proper regulative criteria.

Phase Behavior of Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol)-Solvent System at High Pressure (고압에서 폴리(에틸렌/비닐 알코올) 공중합체-용매계의 상거동에 관한 연구)

  • Cloud-point data at $230^{\circ}C$ and 1,800 bar are presented for two poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol)(PEVA) copolymers[9.9mol% and 17.8mol% vinyl alcohol(VA)] in ethylene, propane, propylene, n-butane, 1-butene, dimethyl ether(DME), and chlorodifluromethane(CDFM). The static type experimental apparatus with a view cell has been used for the experiment at the high pressure and temperature. The pressure-temperature (P-T) loops of PEVA(9.9mol% VA) copolymer-DME mixtures are presented at copolymer concentrations of 1.4wt% to 20.0wt%. Also, we presented the phase behavior of PEVA(17.8mol% VA) copolymer-DME system at copolymer concentration of 1.9wt% to 6.8wt%. The cloud-point curves for the PEVA copolymers in dimethyl ether showed single phase above 480 bar as a result of the hydrogen bonding between the vinyl alcohol unit and dimethyl ether. The pressure-concentration(P-x) isotherm loops of PEVA(9.9mol% and 17.8mol% VA)-DME system are obtained. The cloud-point curves for PEVA(9.9mol% and 17.8 mol% VA) copolymers andthe ethylene, propane, propylene, n-butane, 1-butene, and CDFM all show negative slopes of phase behavior and are located at pressures below 1,800 bar. For PEVA copolymer-DME system(9.9mol% VA), cloud-point curves show positive slopes that decrease in pressures with decrease in temperature in the temperature range of $80^{\circ}C$ to $160^{\circ}C$.

A 54 kDa cysteine protease purified from the crude extract of Neodiplostomum seoulense adult worms

  • As a preliminary study for the explanation of pathobiology of Neodiplostomum seoulense infection. a 54 kDa protease was purified from the crude extract of adult worms by sequential chromatographic methods. The crude extract was subjected to DEAE-Sepharose Fast Flow column, and protein was eluted using 25 mM Tris-HC1 (pH 7.4) containing 0.05. 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 M NaC1 in stepwise elution. The 0.2 M NaCl fraction was further purified by Q-Sepharose chromatography and protein was eluted using 20 mM sodium acetate (pH 6.4) containing 0.05, 0.1. 0.2 and 0.3 M NaCl, respectively. The 0.1M NaCl fraction showed a single protein band on SDS-PAGE carried out on a 7.5-15% gradient gel. The proteolytic activities of the purified enzyme were specifically inhibited by L-trans-epoxy-succinylleucylamide (4-guanidino) butane (E-64) and iodoacetic acid. The enzyme, cysteine protease. showed the maximum proteolytic activity at pH 6.0 in 0.1 M buffer, and degraded extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and fibronectin with different activities. It is suggested that the cysteine protease may playa role in the nutrient uptake of N. seoulense from the host intestine.
