The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of the Orff Approach to music education programs on singing ability, the ability to play musical instruments, physical expression ability, musical improvisation ability as well as overall musical expressiveness in 5 year old children. The test subjects for this study consisted of fifty-eight children. They were arbitrarily assigned to the experimental group of 31 children and the control group of 27 children. The experimental group was engaged using the Orff music education program for a total of 16 sessions, while the control group conducted music activities according to the annual music education plan of M kindergarten. The main results of this study were as follows : The Orff Approach to music education program was effective in improving abilities in the sub-factors of the four kinds of musical expression ability (singing, playing musical instruments, physical expression and musical improvisation) as well as overall musical expressive abilities. These results indicate that the Orff Approach to music education programs can create positive effects in the developing musical expressiveness of young children.

The purpose of this study is to grasp musical expression in the Monastery of La Tourette, an architectural work produced by an architect, Le Corbusier and a musician, Iannis Xenakis based on a musical piece, Metastasis. The results of the study on musical expression in the Monastery of La Tourette, which was done through analysis of correlation in expression between architecture and music, and spatial characteristics of this monastery, are as follows: First, in modern architecture and music, the expression of the space-time continuum concept is emphasized. Second, the architectural characteristics in this monastery that constitute musical expression are the Modular, confliction and fluidity in composition, plastic (acoustic) shape and symbolic shape. Third, these architectural characteristics are found to be expressed as counterpoint, alteration, temporality, acoustics and canon of music.

This study investigated the relationship between musical understanding and expression, the purpose of music education. It also intended to present the theoretical basis of integrated early childhood music education by examining into the necessity of it as a method to help young children with musical understanding and expression. The results of the study showed that either of the understanding and expression of music should be necessary and there is a mutual promotional relationship between them. It was found out that real musical understanding can be formed not by mechanical skill, but when the relationship between notes is understood with various experiences. Therefore an integrated early childhood music education became necessary as a principle of educational method to help young children with musical understanding and musical expression. Concretely it was found out to be necessary in terms of the characteristics, interest and concern of young children, the use and development of multi intelligence and the translation of the same knowledge into the same level.

We developed a musical composition and performing method for the dynamic expression of food taste, to replace the static expression obtained from a numerical sensory score and linguistic method. The musical score was composed using cognitive food sensory data gathered while eating potato chips via a computer equipped with a sound card and a master keyboard, as well as Cakewalk 9.0, Goldwave 5.0, and Windows Media Player. The music score included four lines, one representing sensory data and three reflecting three layers of human consciousness. Different time units were applied by incorporating different repetition cycles for the relevant consciousness layers. The musical scores of individual subjects differed in terms of the score pattern and its sound. The music representing food taste was played by four instruments and showed different sound and acoustic frequency patterns for each individual subject during the consumption of potato chips. The musical expression method was applied to analyze the individual taste characteristics in the cognition of food.

The aim of the study was to investigate whether music drama activity has an affect on literacy, musical ability and physical expression in preschoolers. The subjects of this experiment were 48 five-year-old children who were selected from two kindergarten in geonbook(experimental group : 24, comparison group : 24). The children in experimental group were asked to act four young children's music drama through sixteen weeks. The children in comparison group were involved in activity referred to in storybook. The data gained from the research were analyzed using a SPSS(p=.05) computer program. The main results in this study are as follows : First, there were partly significant differences in young children's music drama activity in terms of rating of literacy. Especially, story understanding as indicated by literacy test scores in the experimental group was significantly different. There were also significant differences in young children's music drama activity in terms of rating of musical ability and physical expression.

이 연구는 뮤지컬 전공대학생들이 체험하는 한국 춤의 신명(神明)요소들을 개념화하고 이를 주제별로 범주화하여 경험과정에서 나타나는 신체움직임의 표현인식들을 연구하는 것이다. 참여자는 춤과 노래 그리고 연기경험이 있는 뮤지컬 전공 대학생 남녀 12명이며, 프로그램은 신명체험(神明體驗)을 주제로 한국의 춤과 소리인식, 호흡과 움직임을 중심으로 주2회 4주간 8차시로 구성하였다. 질적 연구는 과정중심의 발견이며, 관찰과 심층면담 그리고 자기보고서를 토대로 귀납적 영역분석을 시행하였다. 분석의 핵심은 소리와 호흡을 통한 신명정서와 신체표현 인식탐구에 집중하여 내용분석을 시도하였다. 결론적으로 뮤지컬 전공대학생들에게 한국 춤 신명체험을 통한 움직임의 표현인식은 첫째, 신체지각을 통한 창의적 사고향상 둘째, 소리와 호흡의 집중력을 통한 이미지표현활용에 기여한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 한국 춤의 신명체험을 통한 소리와 호흡의 재발견과 표현이미지의 연구결과는 뮤지컬 전공대학생들이 인식하는 신체표현의 유용성과 창의적 요인들로 구분되어 교육적 측면과 연계하여 논의될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

This study aims to show the possibility of approaching artistic design through the Bergsonian concept of musical vitality by grasping the expression of his musical vitality at the Chapel at Ronchamp. For the purpose of this study, the aesthetic significance of Bergson's philosophy of life was first contemplated, and a case study analysis was conducted on the vitality of music as temporality at the Chapel at Ronchamp. On this basis, the examples of his musical vitality as metaphysical reality at the Chapel were analyzed. The results of analysis are as follows: First, the Bergsonian vitality of music as temporality at the Chapel is expressed as a sense of movement-through the acoustic form, the modulor corresponding to the scale of the music, the opposite composition of musical changes, the fluid space of the music, and the light and shadow of counterpoint-as having been intended by Le Corbusier in the very process of design. Second, the vitality of music as Bergson's metaphysical reality at the Chapel at Ronchamp is expressed in the image and rhythm of music created by intuitive reminiscences. The acoustic form, the form created by the modulor, the opposite form of composition, the fluid space and the light and shadow as the melody and image of music present continuous diversity as vital flow in a uniform direction. The vitality of music as aesthetical reality is imitated by the rhythm of the music deriving from repetitive movements sensed here. Consequentry, the Chapel at Ronchamp can be seen as a vital design that expresses Bergson's notion of musical vitality, indicating that an approach toward artistic design can be realized through his musical vitality. This study holds significance as basic research on artistic design with philosophy and music as its origin.

The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated music activity model based on musical concepts for 2-year-old children in order to include music in whole personality education in a rapidly changing society with increasing need for toddler care. Research methods were review of literature and survey. Subjects were 185 teachers in B city. They were asked to record their thoughts and needs during the process of musical activities with toddlers. Research concluded that an integrated music activity model for toddlers requires statement of purpose, contents based on musical concepts, and appropriate teaching methods which can be extended to arts education in general. Discussion further suggested diverse expression through singing, listening, body movement and combining with other arts.

본 연구의 목적은 집단음악치료 기반 음악극 창작활동 프로그램이 지역아동센터 아동의 자아존중감, 자기표현력, 사회성 향상에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것에 있다. 연구프로그램은 지역아동센터를 이용하고 있는 28명의 아동들을 대상으로 진행하였으며, 저학년 14명, 고학년 14명으로 구성되었다. 학년별 집단은 실험집단 7명, 통제집단 7명으로 배치하였으며, 실험집단은 총 12회기의 음악극 창작활동 프로그램에 참여하였다. 음악극 창작활동 프로그램은 탐색-창작-실행의 총 3단계로 구성되었으며, 각 단계는 아동들이 기존 음악극을 체험하고, 자신들의 음악극을 창작하여 음악극 발표를 경험할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 참여자의 변화를 확인하기 위해 자아존중감 척도, 자기표현능력 척도, 사회성기술평가척도를 사전, 사후에 실시하였다. 연구결과, 실험집단은 통제집단과 비교해 음악극 창작활동 프로그램에 참여 후 자아존중감, 자기표현력, 사회성 점수가 유의하게 증가했다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 단계적으로 구성된 집단음악치료 기반 음악극 창작활동에서 제공되는 음악경험의 수준과 완성도가 발달기 아동의 개인적 사회적 역량강화에 긍정적 경험이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

The main purpose of (the) performing arts is to efficiently communicate the themes and meanings which performances contain under limited time and place to the audience. Stage design should visually express play writer's scripts and director's interpretations of works, amid limitations. Although it is mostly designed metaphorically, in many cases, it is used only as a tool describing the background of performances but fails to effectively convey the true message of scenes to spectators. On the other hand, Bob Crowley has been recognized for his own design presentation skills to win 'Best Scenic Design of a Musical' of Tony Awards for six times and still exerts great influence on the musical and performing arts fields as a set designer. This study analyzes his reading of scripts and visual metaphor expressions, focusing on the musical, 'Aida' where the skills are mostly notable. To that end, we studied the concept of stage arts and theory of visual metaphoric expression to derive the features of his own technique in visual metaphor. Then, the features were applied to each scene of 'Aida' to see how they are displayed on stage. The result shows that Bob Crowley not only describes the background on stage, but also visualizes characters' personality and emotions in scenes. Such method of his expression is a proof to enhanced performance level by maximizing the atmosphere. Considering that a stage design should be based on the capacity of a designer to reinterpret the space with renewed viewpoints, visual metaphoric expression can serve as an effective tool to deliver clear messages to the audience under limited time and space, which is open to various methods of expressions.
