  • This paper is concerned with evaluating the fidelity of a non-cognitive test adaptation for use in multiple languages and cultures using two differential item functioning(DIF) techniques: (a) PSIBTEST, and (b) Logistic Discriminant Function Analysis(LDFA). In particular, this study focused on how DIF research can best be extended to the problem of evaluating the equivalence of tests across cultures and languages. The Sixteen Personality Factor (16PF) questionnaire was administered in English to 844 American college students and in Korean to 538 Korean college students. This study attempted to identify the best matching criterion for the translated tests by using both a multivariate matching technique and iterative purification process. The results generally showed a small number of DIF items on each scale, except for scales A and N where about half of the items showed DIF. The choice of matching variables based on a combination of internal measures appeared to have little effect and the iterative purification method was unsuccessful. Finally, the results were discussed and methodological implications were also presented.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate preference and images of Korean traditional motifs, and to identify the relationship between them. The subjects consisted of 369 male and 356 female undergraduate students. The experimental materials used in this study were 48 stimuli and a questionnaire composed of 7-point semantic differential scales of 26 adjectives. Twelve motifs selected from 3 groups of Korean motifs were used as pattern design stimuli. Twelve repeated patterns were constructed from them to be applied on a CAD-simulated dress. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and regression. The major findings were as follows : 1. Category, composition type, and application object had a significant effect on the preference. Interpretation type has no significant effects on the preference independently, but it had interaction effects when combined with composition type, and category. Especially the composition type had a greater effect than the other variables on the preference. Cloud motif and its abstract and decorative type were found to be more related to the preference than the other category and interpretation type. On the basis of the analysis results, image charts and preference charts were developed. By combining information from the image chart and preference chart, motifs and images preferred by consumers may be selected and developed into new valuable designs. 2. The preference was affected mainly by 'quality'image followed by 'simplicity', 'interest', and 'modernity'image. The preference on pattern design was affected by 'quality', 'simplicity', 'interest', and 'interest', 'simplicity', and 'modernity'image in the order. The relationship between the preference and sensibility images has been represented by equations.

  • This study examined the effects of children's negative emotionality, emotional regulation, and maternal parenting behaviors on their relational and overt aggression. The participants were 355 children(174 boys, 181 girls; aged 4-5 years old) and their mothers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the children's aggression and emotion regulation. The children's negative emotionality and maternal parenting behaviors were assessed by a mother reported questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results showed that Children's negative emotionality was positively related to their relational and overt aggression. Children's emotional regulation had a negative relation to their relational and overt aggression. Mother's limit-setting and rejection-neglect was significantly related to children's relational aggression, whereas mother's warmth-encouragement and rejection-neglect was negatively related to children's overt aggression. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of children's negative emotionality and mother's overprotection-permission predicted children's overt aggression. Children's negative emotionality, whose mothers demonstrated middle and high level of overprotection-permission, was associated significantly with overt aggression. In addition, the association between mother's parenting behaviors and children's aggressions were mediated by their emotion regulation. The findings point to similarities and differences between relational and overt aggression in relation to children's negative emotionality, emotional regulation and maternal parenting behaviors.

  • In this study, we developed a hybrid forecasting model based on a four-parameter distribution which allows a simultaneous season-ahead forecasting for both seasonal rainfall and sub-daily rainfall in Han-River and Geum-River basins. The proposed model is mainly utilized a set of time-varying predictors and the associated model parameters were estimated within a Bayesian nonstationary rainfall frequency framework. The hybrid forecasting model was validated through an cross-validatory experiment using the recent rainfall events during 2014~2017 in both basins. The seasonal precipitation results showed a good agreement with the observations, which is about 86.3% and 98.9% in Han-River basin and Geum-River basin, respectively. Similarly, for the extreme rainfalls at sub-daily scale, the results showed a good correspondence between the observed and simulated rainfalls with a range of 65.9~99.7%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed model could be used to better consider climate variability at multiple time scales.

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the changes in nutritional status based on quality of life (QoL) item-level analysis to determine whether individual QoL responses might facilitate personal clinical impact. Materials and Methods: This study retrospectively evaluated QoL data obtained by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 (QLQ-C30) and Quality of Life Questionnaire-Stomach (QLQ-STO22) as well as metabolic-nutritional data obtained by bioelectrical impedance analysis and blood tests. Patients were assessed preoperatively and at the 5-year follow-up. QoL was analyzed at the level of the constituent items. The patients were categorized into vulnerable and non-vulnerable QoL groups for each scale based on their responses to the QoL items and changes in the metabolic-nutritional indices were compared. Results: Multiple shortcomings in the metabolic-nutritional indices were observed in the vulnerable groups for nausea/vomiting (waist-hip ratio, degree of obesity), dyspnea (hemoglobin, iron), constipation (body fat mass, percent body fat), dysphagia (body fat mass, percent body fat), reflux (body weight, hemoglobin), dry mouth (percent body fat, waist-hip ratio), and taste (body weight, total body water, soft lean mass, body fat mass). The shortcomings in a single index were observed in the vulnerable groups for emotional functioning and pain (EORTC QLQ-C30) and for eating restrictions (EORTC QLQ-STO22). Conclusions: Long-term postoperative QoL deterioration in emotional functioning, nausea/vomiting, pain, dyspnea, constipation, dysphagia, reflux, eating restrictions, dry mouth, and taste were associated with nutritional shortcomings. QoL item-level analysis, instead of scale-level analysis, may help to facilitate personalized treatment for individual QoL respondents.

  • The oxidation behavior of Ag-36.8a%Cu-7.4at%Ti alloy brazed on Si3N4 substrate was investigated at 400, 500 and 600$^{\circ}C$ in air. Under this experimental condition Si3N4 and Ag were not oxidized whereas Cu and Ti among the brazing alloy components were oxidizied obeying the parabolic oxidation rate law. The activation energy of oxidation was found to be 80kj/ mol which was smaller than that of pure Cu owing to the presence of oxygen active element of Ti. The outer oxide scale formed from the initial oxidation state was always composed of Cu oxides which were known to be growing by the outward diffusion of Cu ions. As the oxidation progressed the concentration gradient occurred due to the continuous consumption of Cu as Cu oxides and consequently build-up of an Ag-enriched layer below the Cu oxides resulted in the formation of multiple oxide scales composed of Cu oxide (CuO) /Ag-enriched layer/Cu oxide (Cu2O) /Ag-enriched layer. Also the inward diffusing of oxygen through Cu oxide and Ag-enriched layers led to the formation of internal oxides of TiO2.

  • The paper proposed the method of calculating the latest approach angle that can reliably recognize multiple laser images even with the change in separation distance between screen and laser launch device. This method recognizes the angle of the laser pattern angle by using the distance of the laser pattern angle, and the angle extraction of the laser detects the laser image from the acquired image using the labeling algorithm, and performs the huff conversion to extract the angle of the straight line. The distance of the reference angle and angle of the laser image extracted using Euclidean distance among similarity scales is calculated, and the furnace is recognized using the calculated distance result value. Experiments with changing the separation distance to "200 cm to 400 cm" showed 100% recognition of individual strands at all separation distances. The experiment confirmed the reliability of the proposed method.

  • In the course of an investigation on the morphological variation of Korean striped bittering, Acheilognathus vamatsutae Mori, two kinds of morrholoflical types were found. Some morphological characters were compared between them and multivariate analysis was conducted. Since the difference of the barbel length between them was very significant (p < 0.01,1-test), they should be designated as L-and 5-type Hshes: fishes with long barbels and those with should barbels, respectively. Lateral line scales, snout length and prepectoral length showed a tendency that the observation could be distinguished from each other (p < 0.05, Duncan's multiple range tests. There were no individuals over 70 mm BL in S-type and so S-type fishes were somewhat dwarf than L-type fishes. The two types were also clearly distinguished by multivariate analyses using cluster and discriminant analyses. According to the observation on the four populations of the Naktong River, the blue-green stripe on the body side and the white band on the margin of anal fin in males of S-type fishes were well developed through the year but those of males of L-type fishes completely disappeared or became slender during nonbreedins season as that of females. Of the seven localities surveved, there were no places that the two types cohabit. S-type fishes are limited only in the Kumho and Wichon River of the Naktong River system but L-type fishes are distributed more widely In the Hongchon, Mangvons, Somjin, Mirang and Panbyon River.
