Ethical perception may be thought of as 'professional skills'. Despite this, however, the dental hygiene curriculums tend to disregard ethics education. This paper describes ethical perception in dental hygiene students. Questionnaire surveys were conducted for 374 in dental hygiene students. For statistical analyses of collected data, the multiple linear regression were adopted. Demand as necessity of dental ethics education, clinical practice exercise, practice of work ethics education were found to have significant major effects on basic ethics perception. The major variables which related to the licensure and health care law and teamwork were to knowledge of revised ethics code of dental hygienist and to demand as necessity of dental ethics education. The major variables influencing the professional protocol were to knowledge of revised ethics code of dental hygienist, to demand as necessity of dental ethics education, role model for learning ethical principles. Revised ethics code of dental hygienist was the most important factor affecting professional protocol. The major variables influencing the decision-making were to demand as necessity of dental ethics education, to knowledge of revised ethics code of dental hygienist, clinical practice exercise, role model for learning ethical principles (church). About 88.4% of the students unawared to knowledge of revised ethics code of dental hygienist and perception of professional protocol of the students awared to knowledge of revised ethics code of dental hygienist was $3.44{\pm}0.23$ (p=0.000).
Objectives: This study aims to examine if a garbage dumping site has real and negative influence on the quality of life (QOL) for the nearby residents. The net effects of the residential distance from the garbage dumping site and from the garbage truck route were investigated for five domains of the QOL. Methods: Two hundred fifty seven Shin-dong Myeon residents, Chun-cheon Si, participated in a self-administrated survey. The Shin-dong Myeon garbage dumping site began operating in 1996. ANCOV A with generalized linear models and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Descriptive analyses show that a residence nearby a garbage dumping site is negatively associated with the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The residential distance from the garbage truck route does not exert any significant effect on various domains of QOL, except for the environmental domain. On the multivariate analysis, the residents living near the garbage dumping site tended to have a significantly negative QOL in the physical and environmental domains. However, the distance from the garbage truck route did not show a significant nor substantial effect on the QOL. The demographic and socioeconomic control variables are associated with a number of the QOL domains, and their patterns are consistent with the general expectations. Conclusions: The results indicated that a garbage dumping site is considered to be an environmental hazard among the nearby residents according to the lower scores on the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The findings from this study provide comprehensive understanding on the residents' QOL, and they may help politicians and policy makers make decisions for appropriate interventions.
This study attempts to explain how depression among community elderly relate to suicidal ideation and whether or not the psycho-social characteristics of elderly persons moderate the relationship between these two variables. This study was conducted in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu and included 273 persons 65 years and above who were using senior welfare centers in the communities. For the questionnaire and analysis, this research uses the Health Care, Life Event, Self-esteem, Family Assessment scales. This research utilizes a wide range of statistical analyses, such as descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation, reliability analysis, multiple regression, and general linear modeling. The calculations employed the use of SPSS/PC+ 12.0. This research indicates, among other things, that elderly persons with a high level of depression and psycho-social characteristics show a tendency toward higher suicidal ideation and that the level of self-esteem, life event, and family communication plays a moderating role in the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among community elderly. In conclusion, elderly persons who experienced with a high level of psycho-social characteristics shows a relatively greater tendency toward suicidal ideation when compared to elderly persons having a low level of psycho-social characteristics. The intervention's effectiveness in reducing suicidal ideation can reinforce self-esteem, and cope with stressful life events and family discord as prevention strategy to reduce risk factors for suicide in late life.

This study examined the effects of leisure activity, self-esteem, and the achievement on mental wellbeing among the elderly. The participants in this cross-sectional, descriptive study were 149 elderly who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses with SPSS statistics 20 program. The mental well-being averaged 51.5 (${\pm}15.1$); leisure activity averaged 26.2 (${\pm}6.5$); self-esteem averaged 30.2 (${\pm}5.2$), and self-esteem averaged 44.4 (${\pm}8.3$). The mental well being of the elderly was positively correlated with all three variables. The leisure activity, self-esteem, and achievement were strong predictors of the mental well-being among the elderly. These variables explained 42.7% of the variance in mental wellbeing. The results suggest that the elderly are satisfied with their own situations and abilities, have a positive mind by accepting their present state of being, continue social interactions through active leisure activities, and set specific goals. The mental well-being of the elderly can be improved.
This study focuses on (1) the relationship between the network intensity of top managers and the R&D investment of Korean firms, and (2) the moderating effects of the type (related-division vs. unrelated-division) and system (physical division vs. spin-offs) of corporate division on this relationship. The sample of this study was all type and/or system of corporate division implemented by Korean firms during 18-years (1999-2016) study periods. The results of multiple regression analyses as follow. First, as was expected in hypothesis 1 the network intensity of top managers has a strong positive linear relation with the R&D investment of Korean firms. Second, regarding the moderating effect of division type the results show that related-divisions significantly intensify the positive relationship of the network intensity of top managers with the R&D of Korean firms although unrelated-divisions did not. Third, in the analysis of moderating effect of corporate division system the results present the stronger positive moderating effect of spin-offs rather than physical divisions. The findings of the study implies that strong network intensity of top managers can be beneficial to long-term decision such as R&D investment of Korean firms. They accords to network theory that emphasize the importance of strong network effect among top managers based on their trust. The findings also implies that researchers and practitioners should consider organizational-level factors such as organizational structure, culture, corporate governance, etc as well as individual-level factors such as the characteristics and relationships of organizational members when making the decision for firm.

Background: The effect of underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during a pandemic is controversial. The purpose of this study was to examine the prognosis of COVID-19 according to the underlying COPD. Methods: COVID-19 patients were assessed using nationwide health insurance data. Comorbidities were evaluated using the modified Charlson Comorbidity Index (mCCI) which excluded COPD from conventional CCI scores. Baseline characteristics were assessed. Univariable and multiple logistic and linear regression analyses were performed to determine effects of variables on clinical outcomes. Ages, sex, mCCI, socioeconomic status, and underlying COPD were selected as variables. Results: COPD patients showed older age (71.3±11.6 years vs. 47.7±19.1 years, p<0.001), higher mCCI (2.6±1.9 vs. 0.8±1.3, p<0.001), and higher mortality (22.9% vs. 3.2%, p<0.001) than non-COPD patients. The intensive care unit admission rate and hospital length of stay were not significantly different between the two groups. All variables were associated with mortality in univariate analysis. However, underlying COPD was not associated with mortality unlike other variables in the adjusted analysis. Older age (odds ratio [OR], 1.12; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.11-1.14; p<0.001), male sex (OR, 2.29; 95% CI, 1.67-3.12; p<0.001), higher mCCI (OR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.20-1.41; p<0.001), and medical aid insurance (OR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.03-2.32; p=0.035) were associated with mortality. Conclusion: Underlying COPD is not associated with a poor prognosis of COVID-19.
Objective: It is crucial to accurately determine the net energy (NE) values of feed ingredients because the NE system is expected to be applied to the formulation of broilers feed. The NE values of 5 wheat and 5 wheat brans were determined in 12-to 14-day old Arbor Acres (AA) broilers with substitution method and indirect calorimetry method. Methods: A total of 12 diets, including 2 reference diets (REF) and 10 test diets (5 wheat diets and 5 wheat bran diets) containing 30% of test ingredients, were randomly fed to 864 male AA birds with 6 replicates of 12 birds per treatment. These birds were used to determine metabolizable energy (ME) (8 birds per replicate) in the chicken house and NE (4 birds per replicate) in the chamber respectively at the same time. After a 4-d dietary and environment adaptation period, growth performance, energy values, energy balance and energy utilization were measured during the following 3 d. Multiple linear regression analyses were further performed to generate prediction equations for NE values based on the chemical components and ME values. The NE prediction equation were also validated on another wheat diet and another wheat bran diet with high correlation (r = 0.98, r = 0.75). Results: The NE values of 5 wheat and 5 wheat bran samples are 9.34, 10.02, 10.27, 11.33, and 10.49 MJ/kg, and 5.37, 5.17, 4.87, 5.06, and 4.88 MJ/kg DM, respectively. The equation with the best fit were NE = 1.968AME-0.411×ADF-14.227 (for wheat) and NE = -0.382×CF-0.362×CP-0.244×ADF+20.870 (for wheat bran). Conclusion: The mean NE values of wheat and wheat bran are 10.29 and 5.07 MJ/kg DM in AA broilers. The NE values of ingredients could be predicted by their chemical composition and energy value with good fitness.

The reconstruction of low dimension nonlinear behavior from the hydrologic time series has been an active area of research in the last decade. In this study, we present the applications of a powerful state space reconstruction methodology using the method of Support Vector Machines (SVM) to the Great Salt Lake (GSL) volume. SVMs are machine learning systems that use a hypothesis space of linear functions in a Kernel induced higher dimensional feature space. SVMs are optimized by minimizing a bound on a generalized error (risk) measure, rather than just the mean square error over a training set. The utility of this SVM regression approach is demonstrated through applications to the short term forecasts of the biweekly GSL volume. The SVM based reconstruction is used to develop time series forecasts for multiple lead times ranging from the period of two weeks to several months. The reliability of the algorithm in learning and forecasting the dynamics is tested using split sample sensitivity analyses, with a particular interest in forecasting extreme states. Unlike previously reported methodologies, SVMs are able to extract the dynamics using only a few past observed data points (Support Vectors, SV) out of the training examples. Considering statistical measures, the prediction model based on SVM demonstrated encouraging and promising results in a short-term prediction. Thus, the SVM method presented in this study suggests a competitive methodology for the forecast of hydrologic time series.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate correlations between computed tomography (CT) parameters and pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters according to disease severity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to determine whether CT parameters can be used to predict PFT indices. Materials and Methods: A total of 370 patients with COPD were grouped based on disease severity according to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) I-IV criteria. Emphysema index (EI), air-trapping index, and airway parameters such as the square root of wall area of a hypothetical airway with an internal perimeter of 10 mm (Pi10) were measured using automatic segmentation software. Clinical characteristics including PFT results and quantitative CT parameters according to GOLD criteria were compared using ANOVA. The correlations between CT parameters and PFT indices, including the ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) and FEV1, were assessed. To evaluate whether CT parameters can be used to predict PFT indices, multiple linear regression analyses were performed for all patients, Group 1 (GOLD I and II), and Group 2 (GOLD III and IV). Results: Pulmonary function deteriorated with increase in disease severity according to the GOLD criteria (p < 0.001). Parenchymal attenuation parameters were significantly worse in patients with higher GOLD stages (P < 0.001), and Pi10 was highest for patients with GOLD III (4.41 ± 0.94 mm). Airway parameters were nonlinearly correlated with PFT results, and Pi10 demonstrated mild correlation with FEV1/FVC in patients with GOLD II and III (r = 0.16, p = 0.06 and r = 0.21, p = 0.04, respectively). Parenchymal attenuation parameters, airway parameters, EI, and Pi10 were identified as predictors of FEV1/FVC for the entire study sample and for Group 1 (R2 = 0.38 and 0.22, respectively; p < 0.001). However, only parenchymal attenuation parameter, EI, was identified as a predictor of FEV1/FVC for Group 2 (R2 = 0.37, p < 0.001). Similar results were obtained for FEV1. Conclusion: Airway and parenchymal attenuation parameters are independent predictors of pulmonary function in patients with mild COPD, whereas parenchymal attenuation parameters are dominant independent predictors of pulmonary function in patients with severe COPD.
As people age and their physical functions are declined, they stay longer in the home, thus being more affected by the home environment. Many studies have shown the association between the home environment and health. However, little is known about the effect of the home environment on disability and depression of older people with functional limitation. This study, therefore, aimed to examine the moderating effect of the home environment on the pathway between walking limitation and instrumental activity of daily living(IADL) disability, and the relationship between IADL disability and depression. We performed logistic regression and multiple linear regression analyses with data on 3,027 participants from the 2018 Seoul Aging Survey. As results, first, older people who lived home with poor conditions showed a higher risk of walking limitation(OR=1.487, 95% CI: 1.250 - 1.770), IADL disability(OR=1.594, 95% CI: 1.303 - 1.949), and depression(OR=1.943, 95% CI: 1.553 - 2.430). Second, the home environment moderated the relationship between walking limitation and IADL disability. Older people with walking limitation who lived in poor housing condition experienced more IADL disability than others. Third, after controlling for walking limitation, the home environment had significant moderating effect on the relationship between IADL disability and depression. Elderly with IADL disability living in poor home experienced higher risk of depression. Based on these results, the study suggests the necessity of home modification intervention targeting functional limitation of older adults as strategy for preventing disability and depression, and enabling aging in place.
