Side Looking Vehicle Detection Radar Using A Novel Signal Processing Algorithm (새로운 신호처리 알고리즘을 이용한 측방설치 차량감지용 레이다)

  • We have developed a 24GHz side-looking vehicle detection radar. A 24GHz front-end module and a novel signal processing algorithm have been developed for speed measurement and size classification of vehicles in multiple lanes. The system has a fixed antenna and FMCW processing module. This paper presents the background theory of operation and shows some measured data using the algorithm. The data shows that measured velocity of the passing vehicle is within the accuracy of 95% in single lane and the velocity of the vehicles in two lanes is within the accuracy of 90% by using variable threshold estimation. The classification of vehicle size as small, medium and large has been measured with 89% accuracy.

  • This paper introduces an efficient affine projection algorithm(APA) using iterative hyperplane projection. Among various fast converging adaptation algorithms, APA has been preferred to be employed for various applications due to its inherent effectiveness against the rank deficient problem. However, the amount of complexity of the conventional APA could not be negligible because of the accomplishment of sample matrix inversion(SMI). Moreover, the 'shifting invariance property' usually exploited in single channel case does not hold for the application of space-time decision-directed equalizer(STDE) deployed in single-input-multi-output(SIMO) systems. Thus, it is impossible to utilize the fast adaptation schemes such as fast transversal filter(FlF) having low-complexity. To accomplish such tasks, this paper introduces the low-complexity APA by employing hyperplane projection algorithm, which shows the excellent tracking capability as well as the fast convergence. In order to confirm th validity of the proposed method, its performance is evaluated under wireless SIMO channel in respect to bit error rate(BER) behavior and computational complexity.

Improving RFID Anti-Collision Algorithms with Multi-Packet Reception (다중 패킷 수신을 이용한 RFID 충돌방지 알고리즘의 성능 향상)

  • One of the important performance issues in large-scale RFID systems is to resolve collisions among responses from RFID tags. Considering two do facto anti-collision solutions, namely the binary-tree splitting algorithm and the Slotted-Aloha algorithm, we propose to use multi-packet reception (MPR) capability to enhance the RFID tag reading rate (i.e., throughput). MPR allows an RFID reader to receive multiple reponses transmitted by tags at the same time. We analyze the effect of MPR capability in the above anti-collision algorithms, which is also validated by simulation. The analysis and simulation results show that RFID reader antenna design and signal separation techniques play an important role in improving RFID system performance with MPR capability.

K-Band Radar Development for the Ground Moving Vehicle (지상 이동 차량용 K-대역 레이다 개발)

  • This paper presents a K-band radar system installed on the ground moving vehicle to detect and track a high-speed target. The presented radar is separated into three search regions to satisfy a wide area detection and a limitation of the installing space of the radar, and each region performs detecting the target independently and tracking the detected target automatically. The presented radar radiating K-band FMCW waveform acquires range and velocity information of the target at the every dwell and receiving antenna of the radar is applied the multiple baseline interferometer to extract the precise angle information of the target. 3-dimensional tracking accuracy of the radar is 0.25 m RMSE measured actually through a fire experiment of an imitation target.

Source Independent Subtree Ray Tracing Method for Wave Propagation Simulation in Urban Environment (도심 환경에서 전파 특성 모의 해석을 위한 신호 독립 부트리 방법에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a SIT(Source Independent Tree) method for ray tracing is proposed to enhance the efficiency of tree construction with reuse of sub tree in urban environment, As the SIT method is applied, the decrease of the number of nodes for picocell and microcell simulations is 100 times. And 88~98 % of the total nodes are reused with change of location of signal source from an analysis of node reuse efficiency. Therefore the proposed SIT method is useful in performance enhancement of ray tracing, especially, for multiple antenna simulation like as MIMO system and cell planning.

  • It has well known that MUSIC and ESPRIT algorithms estimate angle of arrival(AOA) with high resolution by eigenvalue decomposition of the covariance matrix which were obtained from the array antennas, However, the disadvantage of MUSIC and ESPRIT is that they are computationally ineffective, and then they are difficult to implement in real time. the other problem of MUSIC and ESPRIT is to require calibrated antennas with uniform features, and are sensitive ti the manufacturing fault and other physical uncertainties. To overcome these disadvantages, several method using neural model have been study. For multiple signals, those methods require huge training data prior to AOA estimation. This paper proposes the algorithm for AOA estimation by interconnected Hopfield neural model. Computer simulations show the validity of the proposed algorithm. It follows that the proposed method yields better AOA estimates than MUSIC. Moreover, out method does not require huge training procedure and only assigns interconnected coefficients to the neural network prior to AOA estimation.

  • Modern radars such as the phase array radar can handle various tasks by generating a beam from a phased array antenna. Radar can be used for miscellaneous applications such as surveillance, tracking, missile guidance etc. Previous radar systems could handle only one task at a time. As such, multiple radars were required to perform simultaneous tasks. Multi-function radars can perform many tasks using only one radar system. However, the radar's resources are limited in this instance. To efficiently utilize time, it is necessary to properly schedule tasks in the radar's timeline. In this report, we investigate the efficiency of different scheduling tasks.

Low Complexity Channel Preprocessor for Multiple Antenna Communication Systems (다중 안테나 통신 시스템을 위한 저복잡도 채널 전처리 프로세서)

  • In this paper, the channel preprocessor with an area-efficient architecture is proposed for the MIMO symbol detector which can support four transmit and receive antennas. The proposed channel preprocessor can shrink the channel dimension to reduce the hardware complexity of the MIMO symbol detector. Also, the proposed channel preprocessor is implemented with very low complexity by using QR decomposition (QRD) and log-number system (LNS). By applying QRD and LNS to the nulling matrix calculation block, the numbers of matrix-multiplications and matrix-divisions are decreased and thus the complexity of the proposed channel preprocessor is significantly reduced. The proposed channel preprocessor was designed in a hardware description language (HDL) and synthesized to gate-level circuits using 0.13um CMOS standard cell library. With the proposed channel preprocessor, the number of logic gates for channel preprocessor is reduced by 20.2% compared with the conventional architecture.

The Optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST Technique in the Adaptive Modulation System corresponding to each MIMO Scheme (적응 변조 시스템에서 각 MIMO 기법에 따른 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the Adaptive Modulation System with optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST(Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique that adopts the extrinsic information from MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) Decoder with Iterative Decoding as a priori probability in two decoding procedures of V-BLAST; the ordering and the slicing. Also, we consider and compare the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is simply combined V-BLAST with Turbo Coding scheme and the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is decoded by the ML (Maximum Likelihood) decoding algorithm. We observe a throughput performance and a complexity. As a result of a performance comparison of each system, it has been proved that the complexity of the proposed decoding algorithm is lower than that of the ML decoding algorithm but is higher than that of the conventional V-BLAST decoding algorithm. however, we can see that the proposed system achieves a better throughput performance than the conventional system in the whole SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) range. And the result shows that the proposed system achieves a throughput performance close to the ML decoded system. Specifically, a simulation shows that the maximum throughput improvement in each MIMO scheme is respectively about 350 kbps, 460 kbps, and 740 kbps compared to the conventional system. It is suggested that the effect of the proposed decoding algorithm accordingly gets higher as the number of system antenna increases.

Implementation of a Kinematic Network-Based Single-Frequency GPS Measurement Model and Its Simulation Tests for Precise Positioning and Attitude Determination of Surveying Vessel (동적네트워크 기반 단일주파수 GPS 관측데이터 모델링을 통한 측량선의 정밀측위 및 자세각결정 알고리즘 구현과 수치실험에 의한 성능분석)

  • In order to support the development of a cost-effective river bathymetric system, this research has focused on modeling GPS observables, which are obtained by array of five single-frequency receivers (i.e., two references and three rovers) to estimate the high accurate kinematic position, and the surveying vessel altitude. Also, by applying all GPS measurements as multiple-baselines with constraining rover baselines, we derived the socalled ‘kinematic network model.’ From the model, the integer-constrained least-squares (LS) for position estimation and the implicit LS for attitude determination were implemented, while a series of simulation tests with respect to the baseline lengths around 2km performed to demonstrate its accuracy analysis. The on-the-fly (OTF) ambiguity resolution tests revealed that ninety-nine percents of time-to-fix-first ambiguity (TTFF) can be decided in less than two seconds, when the positioning accuracy of ambiguity-fixed solutions was assessed as the greater than or equal to one and two centimeters in horizontal and vertical, respectively. Comparing to the GPS-derived attitudes, the achievable accuracy gradually descended in sequence of yaw, pitch and roll due to the antenna geometric configuration. Furthermore, the RMSE values for the baseline lengths of three to six meters were within ±1′for yaw, and less than ±10′and ±20′for pitch and roll, respectively, but those of between six to fifteen meters were less than ±1′for yaw, ±5′for pitch, and ±10′for roll.
