  • Overall TCP performance represented by end-to-end throughput is largely dependent upon its loss recovery performance. In particular non-congestion packet losses caused by transmission errors degrade TCP performance seriously. Using Markov process, we analyze TCP loss recovery performance for correlated packet losses caused by multipath fading. The results show that loss recovery performance can be severely affected by burstiness in packet losses, even if overall packet loss ratio is very low.

  • Time synchronization system using dual frequency bands is designed and the error sources are analyzed for alternative synchronized-pseudolite navigation system (S-PNS) which aims at military application. To resolve near/far problem, dual frequency band operation is proposed instead of pulsing transmission which degrades level of reception. In dual frequency operation H/W delay should be considered to eliminate errors caused by inter-frequency bias (IFB) difference between the receivers of the pseudolites and users. When time synchronization is performed across the sea, multipath error is occurred severely since the elevation angle between pseudolites is low so total reflection can be happened. To investigate the difference of multipath effects according to location, pseudolites are set up coastal area and land area and performances are compared. The error source related with tropospheric delay is becoming dominant source as the coverage of the PNS is broadening. The tropospheric delay is measured by master pseudolite receiver directly using own pseudorange and slave pseudorange. Flight test is performed near coastal area using S-PNS equipped with developed time synchronization system and test results are also presented.

  • In this paper, we focus on the simulation of receiver algorithms for the Q-CDMA reverse link modem to analyze its structure and performance. Receiver algorithm is to be characterized by processing a large amount of data for reliable data transmission through poor mobile channel environment. According to Q-CDMA receiver scheme, we connect the code acqusition and code tracking models for despreading of input signals and the RAKE structure demodulator used to resolve the time diversity signal due to multipath propagation. And this connected system is under test. The bit error rates are found for an arbitrary user under the AWGN and multipath fading environments.

  • This paper presents the design of a routing metric for energy-efficient and low-delay path selection and a new routing protocol utilizing the metric in duty-cycyled wireless sensor networks. The new routing metric based on duty cycle, EDW, can reduce the energy and delay of transmission paths, which represents total waiting time from source to destination due to duty cycle. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new multipath routing protocol based on cross-layer information utilizing the new routing metric, and simulation results show that the proposed protocol shows better performance of end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

  • This paper discusses the development of an acoustic vector channel simulator for the performance analysis of an acoustic digital communication system. The channel simulator consists of transmission module, acoustic channel model, receiver, beamformer, and adaptive equalizer. QPSK source signal is generated by the parameters specified by a user. The transmitted signal generates multipath signals which have a different delay, amplitude, and dopper frequency. The multipath singnals with the acoustic noises are the received signal. This paper presents the performance analysis of an acoustic digital communication system according to the antenna structure and the various baseband signal processing techniques.

  • In case of wireless sensor networks being applied to a target environment having continuous data transfer, high-speed data transmission and processing is necessary to meet increased bandwidth needs. This paper proposes a novel multipath routing algorithm to increase the bandwidth of continuous data stream for the wireless sensor network using dual channel routers. We evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm in the wireless sensor network using the dual channel touter based on ZigBee protocol. According to the experimental evaluation, the proposed algorithm showed outstanding performance enhancement with the bandwidth of 150kbps, which is about twice of existing single channel router.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for throughput improvement in multirate multihop wireless networks with intra-session network coding. A multirate transmission supports several rates so that it has a tradeoff between transmission rate and transmission range, therefore multirate can cope with the performance degradation. We present the rate selection method with intra-session network coding in multirate nodes. The effective transmission rate is calculated by using intra-session network coding, and then its maximum effective transmission rate is selected. Concurrent transmission set is determined by selected transmission rate and then the linear programming is formulated for throughput calculation in multihop wireless networks. We evaluate the performance by using MATLAB and lp_solve programs in two topologies. It is shown that the throughput of the proposed method is improved.

  • This paper describes the development of the telemetry link system for the high data rate transmission in high speed rocket application. In consideration of bandwidth efficiency, frequency selective fading and doppler frequency offset, we used DQPSK instead of PCM/FM which has been the primary modulation format in aeronautical telemetry. Also we used the spatial diversity with multiple receiving antennas to mitigate multipath interference which is the dominant channel impairment and the Turbo Product Code for Forward Error Correction to improve bit error rate performance.

  • Conventional TCPs are designed to work efficiently on wired network where any transmission errors rarely take place. However, the probability of transmission error in a wireless network is much higher than in a wired network, due to pass loss, multipath fading, and many kinds of interference. There were many researches on preventing the degradation of TCP performance in these wireless networks with bad channel condition. One of these researches is the SNOOP protocol which is link-layer solution for achieving high throughput of TCP. However, this SNOOP protocol is apt to retransmit some TCP segments unnecessarily, which could cause some increased traffic loads in a wireless network. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to prevent the unnecessary retransmission of TCP segments and to achieve increased performance of TCP.

  • In this paper, we propose a cooperative communication scheme for high transmission efficiency and coverage extension under multipath fading environment of moving networks. The proposed scheme uses a Space-Time Block Code (STBC) for improvement of receiving performance by using virtual Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO) transmit diversity. It can also achieve faster transmission time than a conventional scheme by using virtual MIMO configurations. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme provides SNR improvement and has faster transmission time compared to the conventional scheme, since it can utilize the good properties of spatial diversity and coding gain by using virtual MIMO configuration. In this paper, we propose simulations of UWB communication system to show validity by using the MATLAB.
