A Stream based Patching for True VoD

  • In this paper, we propose a stream based patching technique in order to reduce demands of network output bandwidth required to provide the true video-on-demand (VoD) service in a Multimedia server. The proposed scheme calculates required streams to clients accurately by analyzing temporal relationships between already arrived requests in a multimedia server and still progressing streams, and then transmits streams freshly. Since our stream based patching technique induces new linking stream which is playing a link role between long and short patching streams, it reduces demand of network output bandwidth required to provide the true VoD service in a multimedia server. Accordingly, we know that the proposed scheme improves service latency and defection rate than those of existing patching technique by a simulation study.

  • Session Initiation Protocol(이하 SIP)은 H.323 network에서 제기된 문제점을 해결하고 다양한 multimedia service를 제공하기위해 IETF에서 정의된 protocol로서, 3GPP의 IP Multimedia Subsystem(이하 IMS)의 기반 protocol로 채택되었다. IMS는 multimedia service를 제공하기 위한 infrastructure로서 CSCF, HSS, MRF, MGCF, IM-GW등 기능적으로 분리된 여러 entity로 구성되며, 향후 추가될 다양한 부가 service에 유연하게 대처할 수 있는 Application Server(이하 AS) mechanism을 포함하고 있다. 현재 AS mechanism을 이용하여 3GPP규격 상에 정의된 대표적 서비스는 presence service이며, presence service network은 presence server, presence agent, presence proxy, watcher등으로 구성된다. 마지막으로 상기에 언급한 규격을 바탕으로 실제 구축된 Instant messaging/presence service network을 제시한다.   • In this paper, we have studied a new method in which multimedia message can be processed effectively in SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)-based Instant Messaging service. Total system is composed of multimedia message server, presence server and user system. To provide effectively message informations such as number of messages stored in the multimedia message server, waiting status and message types to users, we have proposed a new method which can be a substitute for message waiting indication event package. In our proposed method, when changes of messages status informations occur, these informations are sent to the presence server, and can be transferred as a separate tag within notification message. The presence server processes subscription requests and notifications, and efficiency can be improved as it provides both message status informations and several communication status informations such as on-line status to service users. Partial publication is used in our system to improve data transfer efficiency more between user system and the presence server. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments measuring multimedia message transfer speed and server processing time.

  • Mobile Multimedia Storage Server should provide to store and transfer a data that the number of concurrent datum by Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) requests in real time. simultaneously. But, While the large number of a PDA request connect to MTS (Mobile Translation Storage) server with BottleNeck problem in mobile internet environment by many constraints such as limited bandwidth can be introduced. This paper introduces an optimal method of new DVDS (Dynamic Variable Disk Scheduling) for MTS server which is based on the Weight Value to solve the BottleNeck problems that occur when transfer and store capture images through mounted digital camera on the PDA in real time simultaneously. The comparison with previous research shows that the proposed scheme provides better.

  • The ODBC(Open Database Connectivity) is particularly efficient in the dynamic client/server environment. Besides, the ODBC provides the functions that can handle multimedia data. Due to this feature, we are able to use the DBMS that supports the ODBC as a multimedia server. In this thesis, we describe the development of the ODBC driver for Relational DBMS. The Relational DBMS ODBC Driver consists of the client module and the server module. The client module is called the SRM(Server Request Module) and the server module is CSM(Client Service Module). These two modules are connected through the network module called the NSM(Network Service Module). We have conducted both the functional and the interoperability test of our ODBC Driver It turned out that the ODBC driver operated with these client DBMS tools successfully. In all, due to our development of the Relational DBMS ODBC Driver, DBMS is now capable of processing multimedia data and supporting the client applications including the DBMS tools.

  • We describe a method for streaming specific section using the section information among peers on P2P network. As peers tend to extract only the part of contents in which they are interested, an indexed file is created based on the section information of multimedia contents and registered in the search server. If a peer requests the streaming of specific parts of the contents to other corresponding peer using the section information that the server returns, the peer streams only separated section of the multimedia contents according to the information. For this process, we implement a function that a peer's PC can play a role as a server, and the peer streams the separated content based on the section information that the server supplies.

  • The Client-Server model is a computing technique that efficiently uses distributed resources via networks. But, generating an application using Client- Server model requires many different expertises to developers in comparison to that of using the centralized computing method. That is, and application developer must be familiar with network programming and GUI(Graphical User Interface) techniques in addition to conventional programming skills. Accordingly, the time and man power have been issued for building a Client-Server system. To alleviate these problem, the Client-Server applications development tools are needed To meet such a need, we developed a GUI based tool, called Hanuri/C, for generating Client-Server application programs. In comparison to existing Client-Server tools, Hanuri/C is reinforced Multimedia facilities, Hanuri/C is reinforced Multimedia facilities. Hanuri/C is considered as a front-end part of distributed system software. That is, Hanuri/C is a Client-Server tool similar to Forth Generation Language(4GL) supporting multimedia application on top of the Distributed Computing environment(DCE). In this paper, we present the design and implementation method of the middleware part of Hanuri/c.

  • The usage increase of digital contents required solution for protection technology and interoperability of system. MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) proposed MPEG-21 Multimedia Frameworks. MPEG-21 IPMP is standard that provides the means to enable digital item and rights information to be persistently managed and protected across networks and devices. In this paper, MPEG-21 IPMP based system to protect digital contents designed by four structures of license server, production server, consumption server, tool server. License server create rights information document using the XML-based REL about multimedia contents of users. Production server makes a digital item by packaging multimedia resource and metadata, which is combined by REL information and IPMP information of multimedia resource. Consumption server takes care of the functions of players that use digital item, and tool server was implement to transmit for missing tool that might occur in all procedures.

  • In this paper, we developed a low cost smart puck system that can interact with the intuitive operation of natural finger touches. The tangible smart puck, designed for capacitive tabletop display, has Arduino embedded processor which communicates only with the MT server. The MT server communicates both to the smart puck and the display server. The display server displays the relevance information on the location of the smart pucks on the tabletop display and handles interactions with the users. The experiment results show that the accuracy of identifying the smart puck ID was very reliable enough to use in practice, and the information presentation processing time is confirmed excellent enough compared to traditional expensive commercial products.
