Design and Implementation of Low-Power Object-based IP Storage for Mobile Devices using WLAN Power Control (WLAN 전력제어를 적용한 모바일 단말용 저전력 객체기반 IP 스토리지 설계 및 구현)

  • A mobile device accesses large-sized data in object-based IP storage as an object unit over IP network. It relies heavily on a WLAN device, which has been known as one of the major power consumers. This paper designs and implements low-power object-based IP storage for mobile devices using an efficient WLAN power control. The proposed WLAN power control exploits prefetch buffer to maximize the idleness for incoming network traffic and controls available WLAN power modes to minimize the power consumption. Our experimental results reveal that the proposed WLAN control can save the total power consumption in a PXA270-based mobile device about 9% while playing the multimedia contents through an object-based IP storage device

  • The development of information system and communication gave us new education model, called remote education. And the remote education, being free from constraint of time and space and using various multimedia resources, has helped and substituted public educations, and has enlarged the area because of a lot of advantages and educational possibility compared to public educations. But it is very insufficient to study on analysis system which can analyze the learner and improve the educational process compared to various contents and education methods. In this study, we realized web-based item pool system which can remove the inefficiency of making duplicated and one-time used questions and which can manage and evaluate learners' achievements more efficiently. This program can give us quality improvement of remote education by raising efficiency of production with various pattern of paper making and item pool type management of items made and by executing high quality analysis with various pattern to the learner.

  • In this paper, a web-based, advanced education system for embedded systems have been implemented, which provide students reality through remote controlled experiment environment when they conduct experiments through web, in addition to the creative multimedia contents. Students can use the server-side remote experiment environment through telnet client using Java technology to conduct a variety of experiments on the embedded system remotely. Our system can be used as economical education tools for expensive experiment equipments in shared fashion through web as well as effective and convenient ones for embedded systems anywhere and anytime when internet access is available, compensating for lack in reality of virtual educations.

A Study on the Influence of System Quality and Synchronization Factors for Learning Performance in e-Learning: The Mediating Effect of Learning Flow (e-러닝의 시스템품질과 동기화요인이 학업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 학습몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Recently, the development of ICT(information & communications technology) with the advent of new media paradigm shift in learning has brought a dramatic impact on the competitiveness of universities. The previous studies on the academic performance of e-learning mainly targeted on e-learning users, studying additional synchronization and system quality factors to measure academic performance. This study empirically analyzed the learning flow and academic performance considering both DeLone & McLean model system quality and synchronizing factors based on ARCS model. Relating to quality and synchronization factors, the academic performance of e-learning system was tested, and the difference between learning flow and academic performance was also analyzed based on time-series data, by the test difference(in the beginning, during, and final of the semester). The results of the study are as follows. First, the study shows that both system quality and synchronization directly affected the learning performance. Thus, when designing e-learning system, it is necessary to consider these two factors at the same time. Second, the indirectly mediating effect on the system quality and synchronization factors turned out to be significant in learning flow. Third, the result of regression analysis on the contents of utilizing dummy variable presents that the teacher's explanation has greater influence than multimedia has to the academic performance, and furthermore, the test difference showed no significance. Further research should be undertaken to consider the learner's degree of acceptance which reflects various aspects for building m-learning or u-learning.

  • RSS is a core component of Web 2.0 which is expected to lead the most important innovation in the new IT environment. In that sense, it is actively utilized to distribute Web contents in various areas such as news, blog, multimedia, medical information, and conference and journal information. Also, it is expected to be a major effective marketing tool in electronic commerce domain. In the paper, we analyzed the problems of current utilization of RSS in domestic shopping malls, and suggest requirements for the effective use of RSS in electronic commerce. Furthermore, we proposed various issues and answers on the implementation of the requirements, and designed the intelligent RSS framework for electronic commerce based on the issues. Syntactic and semantic interoperability between the RSS service provider and the user is one of the most important issues in the framework. We suggested how to implement the interoperability based on Semantic Web technologies.

  • In this paper, we have developed the balance board with electronic devices to use in various fields of remedial and physical balance exercise with interesting game and the functional game. Rehabilitation training using a funny game will be effective for patient's rehabilitation training. A Personal training system uses a balance board with an acceleration sensor and the game controlled by physical balance. To evaluate the operation of the developed system, we developed rehabilitation training game. The proposed game can be applicable to rehabilitation and balance training, and suggested game interface method could use a commercial game with various function through our emulator.

Shot Change Detection Using Multiple Features and Binary Decision Tree (다수의 특징과 이진 분류 트리를 이용한 장면 전환 검출)

  • Contrary to the previous methods, in this paper, we propose an enhanced shot change detection method using multiple features and binary decision tree. The previous methods usually used single feature and fixed threshold between consecutive frames. However, contents such as color, shape, background, and texture change simultaneously at shot change points in a video sequence. Therefore, in this paper, we detect the shot changes effectively using multiple features, which are supplementary each other, rather than using single feature. In order to classify the shot changes, we use binary classification tree. According to this classification result, we extract important features among the multiple features and obtain threshold value for each feature. We also perform the cross-validation and droop-case to verify the performance of our method. From an experimental result, it was revealed that the EI of our method performed average of 2% better than that of the conventional shot change detection methods.

  • In recent years, a large amount of music content is distributed in the Internet environment. In order to retrieve the music content effectively that user want, various studies have been carried out. Especially, it is also actively developing music recommendation system combining emotion model with MIR(Music Information Retrieval) studies. However, in these studies, there are several drawbacks. First, structure of emotion model that was used is simple. Second, because the emotion model has not designed for Korean language, there is limit to process the semantic of emotional words expressed with Korean. In this paper, through extending the existing emotion model, we propose a new emotion model KOREM(KORean Emotional Model) based on Korean. And also, we design and implement ontology using emotion model proposed. Through them, sorting, storage and retrieval of music content described with various emotional expression are available.

  • WThe education information have been increased. Accordingly, the necessary of developing on education information metadata standards has been increased. By the reason, the Korea Education & Research Information Service developed KEM(Korea Educational Metadata) 2.0. And MPEG-7 was developed to describe metadata of multimedia data. In this paper, we developed a education information image retrieval system. This system used XML schema to accept education information image metadata. We integrated contents-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval to overcome there problems that content-based retrieval system can not support semantic-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval can not support content-based retrieval. As a results, we expect to handle metadata more efficiently.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop FVU, which enables teachers effectively to construct self-page on the screen, to reduce the size of file for teaching, and to correct many different kinds of event which was already made in the previous. The instrument used in the development of this Editor is UML(Unified Modeling Language), which is object-oriented methodology. The Authoring tool developed in this study is named FVU. The first page which is needed in class can be constructed by using VUEditor in FVU. Using VUEditor can get Instructional Syllabus exported into VUAuthor through Vector-transformation. Through this procedure, the size of image file comes to be reduced into forming low band width, which results in solving the problem of network traffic. Also, Instructor can create image, shape and text, and delete and correct errors or mistakes which make in the course of constructing materials for teaching. In conclusion, this VUEditor enables program designer to construct the first page, even without using such applied program as Image Tool and Power Point. This VUEditor makes instructor to make some contents for teaching easily.
