Interactive emotion-based color image retrieval (대화형 감성기반 칼라영상 검색)

  • Variable contents are extracted and used to improve the correctness of the retrieval in the content-based in age retrieval. This way use the physical feature for the retrieval. In this way of retrieval, the user has to know the basic physical features and spatial relationship of target images that he wants to retrieve. There are some restriction to reflect the user's intend. We need the retrieval system that reflect the user's intend. In this paper, we propose an emotion-based retrieval system. It is different from past emotion based image retrieval in point of view that it uses relevance feedback to estimate the users intend and it is easily combined with past content-based image retrieval system. The features and similarity measures are adopted from MPEG-7 color descriptors which are proper retrieval of large multimedia databases. We use wallpaper images for the experiment. The result shows that the system get successful result.

The Development of Game Addiction Treatment Program using Digital Storytelling (디지털스토리텔링을 적용한 게임중독치료교육 프로그램의 개발)

  • The study proposed new approach for the developing a game addiction treatment program using digital storytelling. We chose 5 types of multimedia elements as educational contents for digital storytelling learning and prepared the teaching strategy for game addiction treatment. We applied the proposed program to 5 students who were included the high risk-user group of game addiction. We also conducted the game addiction tendency test, game usage time test, interview and the effectiveness test of proposed program. As a result of tests, the proposed program showed a positive effect that reduced the game addiction tendency. In the effectiveness test of proposed program, we found the result that 5 experimenters were improved the immersions, challenges, and social interaction, sense of accomplishment in digital storytelling program. We expect that this study will provide positive role and new education strategy for game addiction treatment.

  • As computing technologies are rapidly progressed and widely used, the needs of high quality information have been increased. To satisfy these needs, it is essential to develop a system which can provide an efficient storing, managing and retrieving mechanism of complex multimedia data, esp. video data. In this paper, we propose a metadata model which can support content-based retrieval of video data. And we design and implement an integrated user interface for querying and browser for content-based retrieval in video database which can efficiently access and browse the video clip that user want to see. Proposed query processor and browser can support various user queries by integrating image feature, spatial temporal feature and annotation. Our system supports structure browsing of retrieved result, so users can more exactly and efficiently access relevant video clip. Without browsing the whole video clip, users can know the contents of video by seeing the storyboard. This storyboard facility makes users know more quickly the content of video clip.

Robust Pupil Detection using Rank Order Filter and Cross-Correlation (Rank Order Filter와 상호상관을 이용한 강인한 눈동자 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose a robust pupil detection method using rank order filter and cross-correlation. Potential pupil candidates are detected using rank order filter. Eye region is binarized using variable threshold to find eyebrow, and pupil candidates at the eyebrow are removed. The positions of pupil candidates are corrected, the pupil candidates are grouped into pairs based on geometric constraints. A similarity measure is obtained for two eye of each pair using cross-correlation, we select a pair with the largest similarity measure as a final pupil. The experiments have been performed for 500 images of the BioID face database. The results show that it achieves the high detection rate of 96.8% and improves about 11.6% than existing method.

  • According to the rapid increase of multimedia data quantity recently, various means of video data search has been desired. In order to process video data effectively, it is required that the content information of video data is loaded in database and semantic-based retrieval method can be available for various query of users. Currently existent contents-based video retrieval systems search by single method such as annotation-based or feature-based retrieval, and show low search efficiency and requires many efforts of system administrator or annotator form less perfect automatic processing. In this paper, we propose semantic-based video retrieval system which support semantic retrieval of various users by feature-based retrieval and annotation-based retrieval of massive video data. By user's fundamental query and selection of image for key frame that extracted from query, the agent gives the detail shape for annotation of extracted key frame. Also, key frame selected by user become query image and searches the most similar key frame through feature based retrieval method that propose. Therefore, we design the system that can heighten retrieval efficiency of video data through semantic-based retrieval.

  • As Internet is popularized by the advent of Web concept having characteristics such as open network, user-friendly, and easy-usage, there are many changes in Information systems providing various information. Web is rapidly transferred traditional Information systems to Web-based Information systems, because it provides not only text information but also multimedia information including image, audio, video, and etc. Also, as information contents were changed from text-based simple abstract information to full-text information, there was appeared various document formats processing Full-text information. But, as they naturally demand large systems memory, long processing time, broader transmission bandwidth, and etc, estimating of these factors is necessary when constructing information systems. This paper focuses on how to design and construct information system processing full-text information and providing function of an integrated document. Primarily, we should review standard document format which is used or developed, and any document format is appropriate to process full-text information in review with viewpoint of information system. Also, practically we should construct information system providing full-text information based on PDF document.

  • Nowadays, 'Interaction' is discussed not only in the multimedia field but also as a topic of daily life at the various viewpoints. And as the permmited limit of Interaction by Mutimedia Technology and audiovisual function is getting more activated, It is the time for us to have new understanding of a 'POSTER'. The Poster, as a one-sided information transmission media till now, is faced with its limitation in transmitting messages due to its unconformity between satisfaction of receiver' sdesire for information and installation space. This fact speaks for need of study about Digital Poster as an alternative communication method, and activation of Digital Poster Design Field. Therefore, I would like to present Design process and Examples by using Digital Poster for Maximizing the Communication Effect. And I expect the activation of Digital Poster Field by studying the possibility of development and various method of practical use of digital posters through presenting the examples.

  • In the society of the 21\ulcorner century under multiphase media conditions, the rapidly glowing electronic media will replace the conventional paper media in a variety of areas. However, if human being still has an affinity for paper media and an instinct for hardcopy from electronic-based text or image, the new market will be created for the paper industry. To what extent the consumer choses paper media for output will depend upon the availability of functions of paper media appealing to human senses; i.e., "sensory functions of paper". As a whole, on-demand type personal as well as business communications will increase in the next century and this trend will lead certainly to a rapidly expanding "contents hardcopy market". The technological progress of the paper industry in the 21\ulcorner century depends upon the market needs for higher products quality and higher efficiency of manufacturing process as well as an endeavour to overcome constraints from forest resource, energy, and environmental issues. Under the conditions with above constraints, the paper media will be polarized into two categories; (1)paper for higher image reproduction capability for original image or text and (2)paper for lower reproduction but with higher appeals for human senses. To cope with these trends, psycho-physical analysis and a sensory engineering approach for developing new paper media is vitally required. Also newly emerged roles of paper physics in the multimedia age is pointed out associated with sensory functions of paper that are not well-understood so far.

A GCST-based Digital Image Watermarking Scheme (GCST 기반 디지털 영상 워터마킹 방법)

  • Various image transformations can be used to compress images, to reduce noises in images and to extract useful features. Watermarking techniques using DCT and DWT have been a lot of research interest in the spread of multimedia contents. In this paper, Gabor cosine and sine transform considered as human visual filter is applied to embedding and extraction of watermarks for digital images. The proposed transform is used for watermarking with fifteen attacks. Randomly normal distributed noises are used as an embedded watermark. To measure the similarity between the embedded watermark and extracted one, a correlation value is computed and furthermore is compared with that of existing DCT method. Correlation values of extracted watermark are computed with randomly normal distributed noise sequences, and the sequence with the largest correlation value is declared as the embedded watermark. Frequency components are divided into various bands. Experimental results for low frequency and mid-frequency bands have shown that the proposed GCST provides a good watermarking algorithm and its performance is better than DCT.

Fast Stereoscopic 3D Broadcasting System using x264 and GPU (x264와 GPU를 이용한 고속 양안식 3차원 방송 시스템)

  • Since the stereoscopic 3-dimensional (3D) video that provides users with a realistic multimedia service requires twice as much data as 2-dimensional (2D) video, it is difficult to construct the fast system. In this paper, we propose a fast stereoscopic 3D broadcasting system based on the depth information. Before the transmission, we encode the input 2D+depth video using x264, an open source H.264/AVC fast encoder to reduce the size of the data. At the receiver, we decode the transmitted bitstream in real time using a compute unified device architecture (CUDA) video decoder API on NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU). Then, we apply a fast view synthesis method that generates the virtual view using GPU. The proposed system can display the output video in both 2DTV and 3DTV. From the experiment, we verified that the proposed system can service the stereoscopic 3D contents in 24 frames per second at most.
