Effect of Ball Milling Time on the Piezoelectric Characteristics of Low Temperature Sintering PMN-PZN-PZT ceramics (볼밀링 시간이 저온소결 PMN-PZN-PZT 세라믹스의 압전특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator application. At the PMN-PZN-PZT ceramics, the influence of the ball-mill time on piezoelectric characteristics was investigated. All the specimens improved according to the increase of the ball-mill time increase. The specimen showed the optimum value when ball-mill time is 60 hour. Their optimum values were density=$7.93g/m^3$, ${\varepsilon}_r=1371$, kp=0.551, Qm=1609, $d_{33}=321pC/N$, respectively.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator application, PMN-PZN-PZT ceramics were manufactured as a function of the amount of CuO addition and their dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics were investigated. With the amount of CuO addition, the physical characteristics of specimens decreased. The specimens showed the optimum value at 0.5wt%CuO addition. Their optimum values were density=$7.93g/m^3$, ${\varepsilon}_r$=1398, kp=0.560, Qm=1706, $d_{33}$=327pC/N, respectively.

  • In this study, in order to develop the low temperature sintering multilayer piezoelectric actuator, PZW-PMN-PZT system ceramics were manufactured according to variation of sintering aids. At the sintering temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, $0.3wt%Li_2CO_3$, $0.2wt%Bi_2O_3$ and 0.2wt%CuO added specimen showed a maximum value of kp = 0.552, $d_{33}\;=\;344pC/N$ and Qm = 1320, respectively.

  • We investigated the low firing of $Li_2CO_3$ added $0.2Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ - 0.3Pb($Fe_{1/2}Nb_{1/2}$) - $0.5Pb(Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.525})O_3$ (PMN-PFN-PZT) ceramics and multilayer actuators (MLAs) using Ag inner electrodes. It was found that 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ was quite effective in lowering the sintering temperature of PMN-PFN-PZT ceramics from $1,100^{\circ}C$ down to $900^{\circ}C$ without deteriorating their piezoelectric ceramics ($d_{33}$ = 425 pC/N and $k_p$ = 61.9%). However, excess $Li_2CO_3$ up to 0.3 wt% brings about unwanted problems such as the formation of a $LiPbO_2$ secondary phase and subsequent degradation in the piezoelectric properties. Using 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ added PMN-PFN-PZT ceramics, MLAs with Ag inner electrodes were successfully fabricated, resulting in a normalized strain of 580 pm/V at an electric field of 1.5 kV/mm.

  • Piezoelectric inverter for driving CCFL is designed in this study. Of them, CCFL is generally used because it has advantages such as small size, high efficiency and good brightness characteristics. the description of the piezoelectric effect is not present here and can be easily found in numerous publications as well as complex equations and formulae. What is the most important to understand is that "they are different" one cannot just change an electromagnetic transformer(EMT) for a piezoelectric one. The simulation program supports the modeled piezoelectric inverter for this paper and the equivalent circuit. The result of the experiment shows more than 90% improvement in terms of the efficiency.

  • 1 mol% $Li_2O$ excess $0.9(Na_{0.52}K_{0.48})NbO_3-0.1LiTaO_3$ lead-free piezoelectric multilayer ceramic actuators were investigated to determine their aging properties. To reduce the thermal aging behavior, we applied a rectified unipolar electric field of 5 kV/mm to the specimen to accelerate the electric aging behavior. By employing a rectified unipolar electric field for the piezoelectric actuators, we could remove undesirable heating from the relaxation current in the motion of the ferroelectric domain. To accelerate the aging test, the applied electric fields had a frequency of 900 Hz. To have enough time for charging and discharging, we employed an accurate time constant to design the equivalent circuit model for the aging tester. To extract exact aging behavior, we measured the pseudo-piezoelectric coefficient before and after the aging process. We also measured the electro-mechanical coupling coefficient, the frequency-dependent dielectric permittivity, and the impedance to compare with fresh and aged specimen.

  • 적층형 piezoelectric ceramic actuators를 제작하여 신뢰성을 평가하였다. 소자의 신뢰성 측정을 위하여 3kV/mm, 5kV/mm, 7kV/mm의 정류된 교류전압을 인가하였으며, 실험중 온도와 습도를 일정하게 유지하기 위하여 항온항습조안에서 실험을 실시하였다. 각 실험의 경우에 16개의 소자를 동시에 평가하였으며, 평균파괴시간을 Weibull 통계방식을 이용하여 계산하였으며, Arrhenius model, Power law model을 이용하여 사용 조건하에서 예상수명을 예측하였다.

  • Downsizing electronics requires precision position control with an accuracy of sub-micron order, which demands development of ultra-fine displacive devices. Piezoelectric transducer is one of devices transferring electric field energy into mechanical energy and being capable for fine displacement control. The transducer has been widely used as fine Position control device Multilayer piezoelectric actuator, one of typical piezo-transducer, is fabricated by stacking alternatively ceramic and electrode layers several hundred times followed by cofiring process. Electrode material should be tolerable in the firing process maintaining at ceramic-sintering temperatures up to $1100{\sim}1300^{\circ}C$. Ag-Pd can be used as stable electrode material in heat treatment above $960^{\circ}C$. Besides, adding small quantity ceramic powder allow the actuator to be fabricated in a good shape by diminishing shrinkage difference between ceramic and electrode layers, resulting in avoidance of crack and delamination at and/or nearby interface between ceramic an electrode layers. This study presents synthesis of nano-oxide-added Ag/Pd powders and its feasibility to candidate material tolerable at high temperature. The powders were formed in a co-precipitation process of Ag and Pd in nano-oxide-dispersed solution where Ag and Pd precursors are melted in $HNO_3$ acid.

  • In this study, two new types of micro-grippers in which micro-fingers are actuated by piezoelectric multi-layer benders and stacks are introduced for the manipulation of micrometer-sized objects. First, we constructed a 3-chopstick-mechanism tungsten gripper, which is composed of three chopsticks: two are designed to grip micro-objects, and tile third is used to help grasp and release the objects through overcoming especially electrostatic force among some surface effects including electrostatic, van der Waals forces and surface tension. Second, a 2-chopstick-mechanism silicon micro-gripper that uses an integrated force sensor to control the gripping force was developed. The micro-gripper is composed of a piezoelectric multilayer bender for actuating the gripper fingers, silicon fingertips fabricated by use of silicon-based micromachining, and supplementary supports. The micro-gripper is referred to as a hybrid-type micro-gripper because it is composed of two main components; micro-fingertips fabricated using micromachining technology to integrate a very sensitive force sensor for measuring the gripping force, and piezoelectric gripper finger actuators that are capable of large gripping forces and moving strokes. The gripping force signal was found to have a sensitivity of 667 N/V. To the design of each of components of both of the grippers. a systematic design approach was applied, which made it possible to establish the functional requirements and design parameters of the micro-grippers. The micro-grippers were installed on a manual manipulator to assess its performance in tasks such as moving micro-objects from one position to a desired position. The experiment showed that the micro-grippers function effectively.

  • This study investigated the low temperature sintering with various templates of Bi-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics. The effects of using CuO-coated Na0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 templates on the sintering behavior as well as the dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of Bi1/2(Na0.78K0.22)1/2TiO3 (BNKT) ceramics have been examined. In comparison with the specimens sintered with the Na0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 templates without CuO coating, those sintered with the CuO-coated Na0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 templates showed larger template sizes as well as a larger electric field induced strain (Smax/Emax) of 422 pm/V after sintering at temperatures as low as 975℃. These results are promising for low-cost multilayer ceramic actuator applications.
