  • Overlay multicast technique is an effective way as an alternative to IP multicast. Traditional IP multicast is not widely deployed because of the complexity of IP multicast technology and lack of application. But overlay multicast can be easily deployed by effectively reducing complexity of network routers. Because overlay multicast resides on top of densely connected IP network, In case of multimedia streaming service over overlay multicast tree, real-time data is sensitive to end-to-end delay. Therefore, moderate algorithm's development to this network environment is very important. In this paper, we are interested in minimizing maximum end-to-end delay in overlay multicast tree. The problem is formulated as a degree-bounded minimum delay spanning tree, which is a problem well-known as NP-hard. We develop tabu search heuristic with intensification and diversification strategies. Robust experimental results show that is comparable to the optimal solution and applicable in real time

  • Due to the deployment problem of the IP Multicast service, the Application Layer Multicast (or Overlay Multicast) has appeared as an alter-native of the If Multicast. However, even though plenty of the Application Layer Multicast (ALM) Protocols were designed and their applications were developed according to the diverse requirements of each multicast service, researches on the ALM Protocols are focused on only a protocol design or an efficient multicast group management algorithm. And there is little effort to provide a unified guideline for development of the ALM Protocols and provide an environment for running multiple protocols simultaneously in a system. In this paper, we propose socket APIs to be a reference in developing new ALM Protocols which enables a system to support multiple protocols in a system with other ALM Protocols and which gives an environment to support efficient protocol management.

  • 실시간 멀티미디어 응용의 등장으로 멀티캐스트와 QoS(Quality of Service) 지원이 필수적인 망 서비스로 부각되고 있다. 이에, ATM 기반의 인터넷에서 IP 멀티캐스트의 효율적인 처리를 위하여 MARS(Multicast Address Resolution Server)가 제안되었고, 기존의 최선 서비스 기반의 인터넷에서 QoS(Quality of Service)를 지원하기 위하여 RSVP(Resource Reservation Protocol)가 제안되었다. Abstract Emerging real time multimedia applications require multicast service with a QoS(Quality of Service) support. An overlay service architecture MARS(Multicast Address Resolution Server) is proposed to support IP multicast over an ATM network, and a resource reservation protocol RSVP is proposed to provide QoS support in the Internet which is originally based upon best effort service only. In this paper, we propose two schemes to support IP multicast service with QoS support over ATM networks: 'RSVP Previous Hop Node(RPHN) scheme' and 'MARS server based scheme'. In RPHN scheme, the RSVP reservation messages are transported via one-to-one ATM control VC from the egress nodes to the ingress nodes of the the multicast flow set up between each pair of nodes. The RSVP message processing occurs at the ingress nodes of the multicast flow. Whereas, in the MARS server based scheme, the RSVP reservation messages are transported via the MARS control VCs between the egress nodes and the MARS server. The RSVP message processing burden is imposed at MARS server in this scheme. For MARS server based scheme, no additional ATM VC is required for RSVP reservation message transmission, while the processing burden at the MARS server is high. Simulation results show that the MARS server based scheme, may accomplish RSVP reservation message delivery with smaller delay as well as saving of the number of ATM VCs. When the number of simultaneous RSVP flows in the MARS cluster is large, however, MARS based scheme may suffer performance degradation since MARS server becomes a performance bottleneck.

  • Through the increment of requirement for EC(Electronic Commerce) oriented communication services, security multicast communications is becoming more important. However, multicast to EC environment is much different from unicast concept most network security protocols. On the network security, using mandatory access control of multilevel architecture which assigns a specific meaning to each subject, so we accomplish access control. In this way, access control security based on the information security level is proposed. A security protocol based on the architecture proposed in this paper would be utilized in security multicast communications, group key management service and leveled security service through multilevel EC security policy, Also we discuss and propose the security level scaleability and key management method on the network.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing protocol for the seamless delivery of multicast data to mobile hosts through the optimal route in IPv6-Based mobile networks. The proposed multicast routing protocol reduces the tree reconstruction overhead by limiting the tunneling length according to the mobility of mobile hosts. In this way, our protocol satisfies the bound of the end-to-end delay and supports the seamless handoff. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance in terms of the tree reconstruction, tunneling service and multicast packet loss than the previous protocols does.

  • The multi user communications that is called as the multicast service should be applied into the evolving mobile networks. In this paper, we propose a fast multicast management scheme for mobile terminals in HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) based mobile networks. In HMIPv6 based mobile networks, we consider the mobile terminal mobility that the multicast management scheme during mobile handover is used for the multicast routing changing. The changing impact to the multicast routing Is determined from handovers in intra AR, and in inter AR or MAP. In this paper, we propose multicast supporting schemes that the tunneling scheme is used in intra AR handover, and the previous subscription scheme is used in inter AR handover for considering the changing impact of the multicast routing.

  • This paper proposes a sound multicast packet-switching method which can less affect QoS(Quality of Service) degradation. The method includes a switch fabric with extra switching paths dedicated f()r multicast packets. Presented also are both a buffering structure and a scheduling algorithm for the proposed method. Simulation analysis for the method shows that the switching delay of unicast packets is decreased even though arrival rate of multicast packets is increased.

  • The multicast scheme can improve the efficiency of multimedia retrieval service system, assuming that video transmission speed is faster than the playback rate and the store-and-play scheme. To best exploit the multicast benefits under bandwidth heterogeneous environment, we develop a multicast scheduling algorithm called MTS(Maximum Throughput Scheduling) which tries to maximize the amount of information transferred at each scheduling with subgrouping method. The MTS method compromises the multiple unicast method and the multicast method with lowest transmission rate. we compare the performance of MTS with that of MMS(Most Multicasting Scheduling) and EDS(Earliest Deadine Scheduling) via computer simulation. The performance results show that the MTS requires less number of service handlers to service the same number of subscribers.

  • This paper presents our performance evaluation after the way of minimizing waiting times between channel switching for eMBMS(evolved Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services) technique in LTE-Advanced systems. Existing composition of MBMS using IGMP(Internet Group Management Protocol) transfers the data with Multicast from BM-SC(Broadcast Multicast Service Center) to eNB(evolevd Node B) and with Broadcast from eNB to UE(User Equipment). Therefore, in case of channel switching, IGMP Join report should be transferred to BM-SC and then wait user's contents to be retransferred from eNB. To achieve this, Subscriber Channel technique of priorities is used for minimizing waiting times between channel switching as UE broadcasts favorite channels in advance.

  • This paper presents an effcient mobile multicast method using the user pattern. We exploit the repetitive movement pattern of mobile node to reduce the total number of experience of graft and join procedure. We defined the locality scope by a movement pattern. While the network is included in the locality scope, the network should maintain a multicast tree even when the mobile node moves to the other network. In this way, the mobile host can receive a multicast service without a delay when it moves to the network in the locality scope later. We compare our scheme with existing schemes under the total signaling cost and the service delay time by using a discrete analytical model for cost analysis. Analytical results demonstrated that the total signaling cost and service delay time was significantly reduced through our proposed scheme.
