A multicast tree includes several, possibly a large number of, paths connecting source-receiver pairs, and network failure may disable part of the multicast tree. Reconstruction of the entire multicast tree to recover from a component failure is highly undesirable, because some group members have to suffer service disruptions even though the communication paths to/from them are not affected by the failure. To limit reconfiguration region and to maximize the likelihood of successful reconfiguration, we propose and evaluate a pre-planned reconfiguration policy for QoS multicast sessions. Specifically, we equip a reconfiguration path (RP) with each end-to-end path that connects a source-receiver pair in the multicast tree, and reserve resources in advance along the RPs. Efficient resource-sharing techniques are applied to reduce the amount of resources reserved for RPs but not used in the absence of failures. This way, we prevent uncontrolled competition among different multicast sessions which may simultaneously try to recover from failures. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme using simulation on randomly-generated networks. We use the shortest-path routing for QoS multicast sessions, and simulate both source-based and shared multicast trees. The evaluation results indicates that successful pre-planned reconfiguration can be achieved for all group members with reasonable overhead. Our scheme is also shown to adapt well to dynamic changes of group membership.
In this letter, we propose a new multicast scheme, named Xcast+, which is an extension of Explicit Multicast (Xcast) for an efficient delivery of multicast packets. The mechanism incorporates the host group model and a new control plane into existing Xcast, and not only does it provide the transparency of traditional multicast schemes to senders and receivers, but it also enhances the routing efficiency in networks. Since intermediate routers do not have to maintain any multicast states, it results in a more efficient and scalable mechanism to deliver multicast packets. Our simulation results show distinct performance improvements of our approach compared to Xcast, particularly as the number of receivers in a subnet increases.
A high performance routing switch is an essential device to either the high performance parallel processing or communication networks that handle multimedia transfer systems such as VOD. The high performance routing chip called STC104 is a typical example in the technical aspect which has 32 bidirectional links of 100Mbps transfer sped. It has exploited new technologies, such as wormhole routing, interval labeling, and adaptive routing method. The high speed router has been applied into some parallel processing system as a single chip. However, its performance over the various interconnection networks with multiple routing chips has not been studied. In this paper, the strucrtures and characteristics of the STC104 have been investigated in order to evaluate the high speed router. Various topology of the STC104, such as meshes, torus, and N-cube are defined and constructed. Algorithms of packet transmission have been proposed based on the interval labeling and the group adaptive routing method implemented in the interconnected network. Multicast algorithms, which are often requited to the processor networks and broadcasting systems, modified from U-mesh and U-torus algorithms have also been proposed overcoming the problems of point-to-point communication.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), location-based multicast routing (LMR) technique can increase the network life time and the channel capacity by reducing the number of duplicated data transmissions and control messages. However, previous LMR techniques can suffer from significant performance degradation due to concrete walls or other interfering objects deployed in the real environment, since they transmit the packets by using only the locations of the sensor nodes. To solve this problem, we propose an interference-aware location based multicast algorithm for WSNs. In the proposed algorithm, each node adjusts the energy cost for each link adaptively considering the interference effect and uses it for multicast decision in order to minimize the interference impact. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the delivery and energy performance when the network is affected by interference.
Routing technologies considering QoS-based hypermedia services have been seen as a crucial network property in next generation optical Internet (NGOI) networks based on IP/dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The huge potential capacity of one single fiber. which is in Tb/s range, can be exploited by applying DWDM technology which transfers multiple data streams (classified and aggregated IP traffics) on multiple wavelengths (classified with QoS-based) simultaneously. So, DWDM-based optical networks have been a favorable approach for the next generation optical backbone networks. Finding a qualified path meeting the multiple constraints is a multi-constraint optimization problem, which has been proven to be NP-complete and cannot be solved by a simple algorithm. The majority of previous works in DWDM networks has viewed heuristic QoS routing algorithms (as an extension of the current Internet routing paradigm) which are very complex and cause the operational and implementation overheads. This aspect will be more pronounced when the network is unstable or when the size of network is large. In this paper, we propose a flooding-based unicast and multicast QoS routing methodologies(YS-QUR and YS-QMR) which incur much lower message overhead yet yields a good connection establishment success rate. The simulation results demonstrate that the YS-QUR and YS-QMR algorithms are superior to the previous routing algorithms.

Ad-hoc is the wireless network and consists of moving Hosts in environments which don't have a network-based Frame. Because ad-hoc is considered as broadcast network and network which has useful benefits, multicast muting protocols have been studied on ad-hoc network For this work we scrutinized ad-hoc and multicast routing protocols presented in previous works. And we presents a protocol for Ad-hoc network.

Multicasting is the simultaneous transmission of data to multiple destinations. In multicast ATM networks the effect of failures on transmission links or nodes can be catastrophic so that the issue of survivability is of great importance. However little attention has been paid to the problem of multicast restoration. This paper presents an efficient heuristic technique for routing backup virtual paths in ulticast networks with link failure. Genetic algorithm is employed here as a heuristic. In the application of genetic algorithm to the problem, a new genetic encoding and decoding method and genetic operators are proposed in this paper. The other several heuristics are also presented in order to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm is a promising approach to solving the problem.
This paper proposes multicast routing algorithm that operates for non-interactive multimedia applications such as VOD(Video On Demand) and real-time data broadcasting. It is possible that there exist multiple senders in non-interactive multimedia applications. This paper designs multicast routing algorithm in this environment. The simulation of algorithm proposed in this paper shows much better performancetcost, delay) than that of only one source. To guarantee the performance of algorithm, Broadband ATM network is modelled in simulation.
In mobile network, the maintenance o( host grouping or the multicast delivery tree for multicasting algorithm becomes a major issues. In this paper, we explore the issues of mobile Multicast scheme using Mobile-IPv6, and addresses case when a mobile host is a source as well as a recipient of a given multicast operation using MLD(Multicast Listener Discovery) scheme, and the proposed MLD-based multicasting protocol asks its HA(Home Agent) to stop forwarding multicast for group using tunneling. We examine and compare our model to existing approaches by proposed cost model, and observe an improved ferformacne.

Recently, some applications require the multicast service that transmit messages to multiple destinations in computer communication network enviroment. Multicast service is to send messages to the group which consists of a number of processes. A multicast group is a collection of processes which are destinations of the transmitted messages and these processes may run on one or more hosts. Therefore, it is important to manage each member of process groups in order to provide efficient multicast services. In this paper, we design and implement group management system to support multicast services. Group Management System was designed with Process Group Management System(PGMS) and Host Group Management System(HGMS). We have implemented basic primitives of PGMS, HGMS. Also, membership tree management algorithm is designed and implemented. Membership tree provides the relation of the members of multicast groups and routing Informations.
