  • A MIMO multi-way relay channel with full data exchange in which K users exchange messages with each other via the help of a single relay is considered. For the case in which each link is quasi-static Rayleigh fading and the relay is full-duplex, the fundamental diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) is investigated, and we show that a compress-and-forward relay protocol can achieve the optimal DMT.

  • In This Paper, we propose relay schemes for network-coding based two-way relay communication in multi relay channel. Two-way relay channel communication is a bi-directional communication that two users exchange their data with the help of a relay. Network-coding based Two-way relay communication can achieve more throughput compared to conventional two-way relay communication. In this paper, we propose relay selection schemes to provide maximum performance considering instantaneous signal-to-noise in multi-relay channel. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection schemes can provide diversity order according to the number of relays.

  • This paper proposes MIMO two-way cooperative relay scheme to optimize the end to end capacity in wireless multi-hop mesh network. The basic idea is to perform data transmission via multi-hop relay nodes, in equidistant topology, this method is quite efficient. However, on one hand this topology is very rare in practical situation, on the other hand, in real practical situation where the topology is most likely non equidistant, the end to end capacity significantly degrades due to bottleneck link caused by uneven SNR. Moreover, the end to end capacity degrades at high SNR due to overreach interference from far nodes existing in multi-hop relay networks. In this paper, MIMO two-way cooperative relay in the region of non equidistant nodes is found efficient to improve the end to end capacity. The proposed scheme is validated using numerical simulation.

  • In this paper, we investigate an energy-efficient resource allocation problem in a two-way relay (TWR) network consisting of multiple user pairs and an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. As the users and relay have individual energy efficiencies (EE), we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). A single-objective optimization problem (SOOP) of the MOOP is introduced using a weighted-sum method, which achieves a single Pareto optimal point of the MOOP. To derive the algorithm for the SOOP, we propose a more tractable equivalent problem using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the SOOP, which guarantees convergence at the local optimal points. The proposed equivalent problem can be efficiently solved by the proposed iterative algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in achieving the optimal EE in multi-user AF TWR networks.

  • This paper investigates the wireless powered two way relay network (WPTWRN), where two single-antenna users and one single-antenna relay firstly harvest energy from signals emitted by a multi-antenna power beacon (PB) and then two users exchange information with the help of the relay by using their harvested energies. In order to improve the energy transfer efficiency, energy beamforming at the PB is deployed. For such a network, to explore the performance limit of the presented WPTWRN, an optimization problem is formulated to obtain the achievable rate region bounds by jointly optimizing the time allocation and energy beamforming design. As the optimization problem is non-convex, it is first transformed to be a convex problem by using variable substitutions and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and then solve it efficiently. It is proved that the proposed method achieves the global optimum. Simulation results show that the achievable rate region of the presented WPTWRN architecture outperforms that of wireless powered one way relay network architecture. Results also show that the relay location has significant impact on achievable rate region of the WPTWRN.

  • In this paper, we design a segment training based individual channel estimation (STICE) scheme for the classical two-way relay network (TWRN) with multi-pair sources (MPS) and amplify-and-forward (AF). We adopt the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) channel estimator to minimize the mean square error (MSE) without channel estimation error, where the optimal power allocation strategy from the relay for different sources is obtained. Then the MSE gains are given with different source pairs among the proposed power allocation scheme and the existing power allocation schemes. Numerical results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing ones.

  • Multi-way relay networks (MWRNs) allow multiple users to exchange information with each other through a single relay terminal. MWRNs are often incorporated with capacity achieving lattice codes to enable the benefits of high-rate signal constellations to be extracted. In this paper, we analytically characterize the symbol error rate (SER) performance of a functional decode and forward (FDF) MWRN in the presence of channel estimation errors. Considering M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with square constellations as an important special case of lattice codes, we obtain asymptotic expressions for the average SER for a user in FDF MWRN. The accuracy of the analysis at high signal-to-noise ratio is validated by comparison with the simulation results. The analysis shows that when a user decodes other users with better channel conditions than itself, the decoding user experiences better error performance. The analytical results allow system designers to accurately assess the non-trivial impact of channel estimation errors and the users' channel conditions on the SER performance of a FDF MWRN with M-QAM modulation.

  • Relay-assisted D2D communication extends the communication range of the D2D pairs and helps users to form D2D pairs effectively. However, due to the introduction of the multi-hop relaying, the D2D communication has to occupy extra transmission time, which may decrease the efficiency of the communication system. In this paper, we propose a scheme to make node receive D2D signal and BS signal at overlapping time to improve the spectrum efficiency according to ZigZag decoding and successive-interference-cancellation (SIC). In this way, more data can be delivered during the same duration, thus the network throughput can be further improved. Numerical results verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme when compared with a baseline scheme. Moreover, we expand the proposed scheme from one-hop relay scenario to multi-hop relay scenario.

  • In this paper, we present a joint relay-and-antenna selection and power allocation strategy for multiple-input multi-output (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relay networks (TWRNs). In our approach, we select the best transmit and receive antennas at the two sources, a best relay and a best transmit and receive antenna at the selected relay based on maximizing the minimum of the end-to-end received signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs) under a total transmit power constraints. We obtained the closed-form solution for the optimal power allocation firstly. Then with the optimal allocation solution we found, we can reduce the joint relay-and-antenna selection to a simpler problem. Besides, the overall outage probability is investigated and a tight closed-form approximation is derived, which provides a method to evaluate the outage performance easily and fast. Simulation results are presented to verify the analysis.

  • In multi-hop communication systems, two-way relaying is one of the solutions to mitigate the spectral efficiency loss caused by a half-duplex transmission. In this paper, a simple two-way relaying scheme is proposed for two-hop two-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. In the proposed system, a base station and a relay station (RS), both equipped with two antennas, form a point-to-point MIMO channel, while the RS and two single-antenna mobile users form a point-to-multipoint multiuser (MU)-MIMO channel. Numerical examples show that the proposed system achieves a significant sum rate gain as compared to a one-way relaying system as the distance between a relay and the two users decreases. We also show that although we can expand the proposed scheme to more than two users, its performance gain as compared to that of one-way relaying decreases with an increase in the number of users.
