  • In this paper we present a text detection method inspired by wavelet packet analysis and improved fuzzy clustering algorithm(IAFC).This approach assumes that the text and non-text regions are considered as two different texture regions. The text detection is achieved by using wavelet packet analysis as a feature analysis. The wavelet packet analysis is a method of wavelet decomposition that offers a richer range of possibilities for document image. From these multi scale features, we adapt the improved fuzzy clustering algorithm based on the unsupervised learning rule. The results show that our text detection method is effective for document images scanned from newspapers and journals.

  • This study presents the application of aerial photographs and KOMPSAT-1 Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) imagery in detecting the change of an urban area that has been rapidly growing. For the study, we used multi-time images which were acquired by two different sensors. For all of the images, the coordinate reference system and scale were first made identical through the 1st and 2nd geometric corrections and then image resampling were carried out to spatial resolution of 7m to detect changes under the same conditions. The Image Differencing was employed as a change detection technique. It was confirmed to be able to detect the changes of terrestrial surface like building, structure and road features from aerial photos and KOMPSAT EOC images with single band. The changes could be detected to some extent with the images acquired from different kinds of sensors as well as the same kinds of sensors.

  • Named entity classification of Wikipedia articles is a fundamental research area that can be used to automatically build large-scale corpora of named entity recognition or to support other entity processing, such as entity linking, as auxiliary tasks. This paper describes a method of classifying named entities in Chinese Wikipedia with fine-grained types. We considered multi-faceted information in Chinese Wikipedia to construct four feature sets, designed different feature selection methods for each feature, and fused different features with a vector space using different strategies. Experimental results show that the explored feature sets and their combination can effectively improve the performance of named entity classification.

  • Corrosion of embedded reinforcing bars is recognized as being the major cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. With regard to maintenance strategies of concrete nuclear structures, the monitoring of cracking remains of primary importance. Recently, authors have developed a post-treatment technique to extract crack features from continuous computations. In this paper, such technique is applied to carry out a numerical analysis of an accelerated corrosion test. Obtained results allow highlighting specific propagation and failure mechanisms that characterize corrosion-induced cracking.

  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks have drawn much research interest in the past few years because they provide a good substrate for large-scale applications in the Internet. In this paper, we introduce the use of anycast, a new "one-to-one-of-many" communication method in the Internet, to solve the following common problems of P2P overlay networks: load-balancing, topology-awareness, system partitioning, and multi-overlay interconnection. We also give an analysis of the features and limitations of the recently deployed anycast infrastructures in the Internet for supporting P2P overlay networks.

  • The wavelet analysis technique is applied in the spectral domain to efficiently represent the multi-scale features of the impedance matrices. In this scheme, the 2-D quadtree decomposition (applying the wavelet transform to only the part of the matrix) method often used in image processing area is applied for a sparse moment matrix. CG(Conjugate-Gradient) method is also applied for saving memory and computation time of wavelet transformed moment matrix. Numerical examples show that for rectangular cylinder case the non-zero elements of the transformed moment matrix grows only as O($N^{1.6}$).

  • This paper presents a decentralized coordination for a small-scale mobile robot teams performing a task through cooperation. Robot teams are required to generate and maintain various geometric patterns adapting to an environment and/or a task in many cooperative applications. In particular, all robots must continue to strive toward achieving the team's mission even if some members fail to perform their role. Toward this end, given the number of robots in a team, an effective coordination is investigated for decentralized formation control strategies. Specifically, all members are required first to reach agreement on their coordinate system and have an identifier (ID) for role assignment in a self-organizing way. Then, employing IDs on individual robots within a common coordinate system, a decentralized neighbor-referenced formation control is realized to generate, keep, and switch between different geometric shapes. This approach is verified using an in-house simulator and physical mobile robots. We detail and evaluate the formation control approach, whose common features include self-organization, robustness, and flexibility.

  • As an automobile tends to be high grade, the needs for more luxurious interior and comfortable HVAC system are emerged. The defrosting ability is another major factor of the performances of HVAC system. The present work is to simulate the flow and the temperature field of cabin interior during the defrost mode. The three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation were solved on the multi blocked grid system by the iterative time marching method and AF scheme, respectively. The present computations were validated by the comparison of the temperature field of a driven cavity and velocity field of 1/5 model scale of an automobile. Generally good agreements were obtained. By the present computation, the complicated features of flow and temperature within the automotive cabin interior could be well understood.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate its characteristics of the spatial compositions at several kindergartens in Daegu area. Through this, the study is intended to provide the basic data of the efficient building planning and facility operations in the kindergarten. The results of this study are as follows. 1) Recently, the spatial compositions of kindergarten was classified as education, educational aids, educational support, teacher / administration, and public service area. 2) The concept of special classroom space was set up in all the surveyed facilities. This space was used for small-scale events, meals, and game features. 3) Support staff, including teachers, are insufficient for the service space. 4) The size of total land area of the facility's public service area was affecting. 5) The Lobby and aisle space of the surveyed facilities was used as a multipurpose space. 6) In response to diverse educational content, the direction to plan should be seperated by multi-space.

  • So far, large-scale scientific devices such as nuclear fusion tokamaks and high energy circular accelerators were constructed using high-current conductors made of metallic superconducting wires. Recently, as REBCO superconducting wires usable in high magnetic fields have been developed by several companies, researchesto apply high current cable type REBCO conductors to next-generation large superconducting magnets were also started. High critical currents of several kA or more in high magnetic fields have been successfully demonstrated on test samples of REBCO cable conductors by several research groups. In this review article, the main features and properties of the representative high current REBCO conductors such as CORC(Conductor On Round Core), TSTC(Twisted Stacked-Tape Cable) and RACC(Roebel-Assembled Coated Conductor), which are currently being developed at abroad are briefly introduced. Research activities of high-current density REBCO MHOS(Multi HTS layers on One Substrate) conductor at KERI, whose structure is different from other cable type REBCO conductors are also shortly introduced.
