  • Wide deployment of high resolution video services leads to active studies on high speed video processing. Especially, prevalent employment of multi-core systems accelerates researches on high resolution video processing based on parallelization of multimedia software. In this paper, we propose a novel parallel H.264/AVC decoding scheme on a multi-core platform. Parallel H.264/AVC decoding is challenging not only because parallelization may incur significant synchronization overhead but also because software may have complicated dependencies. To overcome such issues, we propose a novel approach called Multi-Threaded Parallelization(MTP). In MTP, to reduce synchronization overhead, a separate thread is allocated to each stage in the pipeline. In addition, an efficient memory reuse technique is used to reduce the memory requirement. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, we parallelized FFmpeg H.264/AVC decoder with the proposed technique using OpenMP, and carried out experiments on an Intel Quad-Core platform. The proposed design performs better than FFmpeg H.264/AVC decoder before the parallelization by 53%. We also reduced the amount of memory usage by 65% and 81% for a high-definition(HD) and a full high-definition(FHD) video, respectively compared with that of popular existing method called 2Dwave.

  • This paper presents a multi-channel capacitive touch sensing unit for SoC applications. This unit includes a simple common processing unit and switch array to detect the touch sensing input by capacitive-time(C-T) conversion method. This touch sensor ASIC is designed based on the Capacitive-Time(C-T) conversion method to have advantages of small current and chip area, and the minimum resolution of the unit is 41 fF per count with the built-in sensing oscillator, LDO regulator and $I^2C$ for no additional external components. This unit is implemented in 0.18 um CMOS process with dual supply voltage of 1.8 V and 3.3 V. The total power consumption of the unit is 60 uA and the area is 0.26 $mm^2$.

  • The Mission Control System for KOMPSAT-2 was developed by ETRI and is being operated at Satellite Control Center at KARI to monitor and control KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose Satellite) which was launched in July 28th, 2006. MCE provides the functions such as telemetry reception and processing, telecommand generation and transmission, satellite tracking and ranging, orbit prediction and determination, attitude maneuver planning, satellite simulation, etc. KOMPSAT-2 is the successor of KOMPSAT-1 which is an earth-observation satellite. KOMPSAT-2 has higher resolution image taking ability due to MSC (Multi Spectral Camera) payload in the satellite and precise orbit and attitude determination by Mission Control System. It can produce one meter resolution image compared to six meter resolution image by KOMPSAT-1.

  • Evaluation of shape similarity for 3D models is essential in many areas - medicine, mechanical engineering, molecular biology, etc. Moreover, as 3D models are commonly used on the Web, many researches have been made on the classification and retrieval of 3D models. In this paper, we describe methods for 3D shape representation and major concepts of similarity evaluation, and analyze the key features of recent researches for shape comparison after classifying them into four categories including multi-resolution, topology, 2D image, and statistics based methods. In addition, we evaluated the performance of the reviewed methods by the selected criteria such as uniqueness, robustness, invariance, multi-resolution, efficiency, and comparison scope. Multi-resolution based methods have resulted in decreased computation time for comparison and increased preprocessing time. The methods using geometric and topological information were able to compare more various types of models and were robust to partial shape comparison. 2D image based methods incurred overheads in time and space complexity. Statistics based methods allowed for shape comparison without pose-normalization and showed robustness against affine transformations and noise.

  • The large-area Compton camera (LACC), featuring significantly high detection sensitivity, was developed for high-speed localization of gamma-ray sources. Due to the high gamma-ray interaction event rate induced by the high sensitivity, however, the multiplexer-based data acquisition system (DAQ) rapidly saturated, leading to deteriorated energy and imaging resolution at event rates higher than 4.7 × 103 s-1. In the present study, a new simultaneous multi-channel DAQ was developed to improve the energy and imaging resolution of the LACC even under high event rate conditions (104-106 s-1). The performance of the DAQ was evaluated with several point sources under different event rate conditions. The results indicated that the new DAQ offers significantly better performance than the existing DAQ over the entire energy and event rate ranges. Especially, the new DAQ showed high energy resolution under very high event rate conditions, i.e., 6.9% and 8.6% (for 662 keV) at 1.3 × 105 and 1.2 × 106 s-1, respectively. Furthermore, the new DAQ successfully acquired Compton images under those event rates, i.e., imaging resolutions of 13.8° and 19.3° at 8.7 × 104 and 106 s-1, which correspond to 1.8 and 73 μSv/hr or about 18 and 730 times the background level, respectively.

  • Using MODIS data and several different compositing algorithms utilizing the average cloud free days in a compositing period, maximum ndvi, or dual maximum NDVI/minimum blue, multi resolution composites (250m, 500m, 1km) have been produced for Southeast Asia, with spectral bands ranging from the visible to short-wave infrared with a single band in the thermal (for land and sea surface temperature). A total of nine composites have been produced for the months of May and August in 2003, including blue, green, red, NIR, three in the SWIR, and several to specifically monitor vegetation health.

  • Due to the poor evaluation indexes such as detection accuracy and recall rate when Yolov3 network detects aircraft in remote sensing images, in this paper, we propose a remote sensing image aircraft detection method based on machine vision. In order to improve the target detection effect, the Inception module was introduced into the Yolov3 network structure, and then the data set was cluster analyzed using the k-means algorithm. In order to obtain the best aircraft detection model, on the basis of our proposed method, we adjusted the network parameters in the pre-training model and improved the resolution of the input image. Finally, our method adopted multi-scale training model. In this paper, we used remote sensing aircraft dataset of RSOD-Dataset to do experiments, and finally proved that our method improved some evaluation indicators. The experiment of this paper proves that our method also has good detection and recognition ability in other ground objects.

  • Demand for high resolution video services leads to active studies on high speed video processing. Especially, widespread deployment of multi-core systems accelerates researches on high resolution video processing based on parallelization of multimedia software. Previously proposed parallelization approach could improve the decoding performance. However, some parallelization methods did not consider the entropy decoding and others considered only a partial decoding parallelization. Therefore, we consider parallel entropy decoding integrated with other parallel video decoding process on a multi-core system. We propose a novel parallel decoding method called Integrated Parallelization. We propose a method on how to optimize the parallelization of video decoding when we have a multi-core system with many cores. We parallelized the KTA 2.7 decoder with the proposed technique on an Intel i7 Quad-Core platform with Intel Hyper-Threading technology and multi-threads scheduling. We achieved up to 70% performance improvement using IP method.

  • The DSD(Direct Stream Digital) encoder, which is a standard for SACD(Super Audio Compact Disc) proposed by Sony and philips, use 1 bit representation with a sampling frequency of 2.8224 MHz (64 $\times$ 44.1 kHz). For multi-rate PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) input like as 48/96/192 kHz, a external sample-rate converter is necessary to the DSD encoder. This paper has been proposed a digital filter structure composed of sample-rate converter and interpolation filter for the DSD encoder with multi-rate (48/96/192 kHz) PCM input. without a external sample-rate converter.
