  • Virtuality is a product of the information age, and as it plays a larger role in the activities of individuals, groups and organizations, the issue of how human behavior varies between virtual and physical space has become one of the most important questions facing the management environment of today. The purpose of this article is to examine how virtuality shapes individuals' social relationships within and outside their work groups. We developed a conceptual framework that explores the links between virtuality and social network based on computer-mediated communication theory and social network theory. Using data from 172 individuals of 42 project teams in 5 global business consulting firms, we tested cross-level hypotheses. The results of hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) indicate that virtuality significantly influences individual's internal tie strength as well as external bridging ties. The results also show the effects of virtual process via CMC vary along with the virtual context.

  • The purpose of this study is to design of a linear feeder using a multi body dynamic program, and to analyze a dynamic motion of the feeder that can transport small mechanical parts uniformly. In order to establish the analysis model of the linear feeder, each parts of the feeder are divided into two types which the rigid and flexible body. For the dynamic simulation, RecurDyn, which is a commercial multi-body dynamic package, is used. We also consider the design parameters for optimal dynamic motion such as centroid, stiffness, and mass of the feeder system. In order to analyze the dynamic motion of a linear feeder, the displacements of the feeder are measured by several accelerometers when it is in an operating condition. After the signal data from the accelerometers are captured in the time domain, the dynamic motion in the space is visualized by using graphic computer software.

  • Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI) is a payload on the Korean Multi-purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT) to perform worldwide ocean color monitoring for the study of biological oceanography KOMPSAT will be launched in the middle of November this year. The radiometric performance of OSMI is analyzed for various gain settings in the viewpoint of the instrument developer for OSMI calibration and application based on its ground performance measurement data for 8 primary spectral bands of OSMI. The radiometric response linearity and dynamic range are analyzed for the image radiometric calibration and the estimation of OSMI image quality for the ocean remote sensing area. The dynamic range is compared with the nominal input radiance for the ocean and the land. The noise equivalent radiance (NER) corresponding to the instrument radiometric noise is compared with the radiometric resolution of signal digitization (1-count equivalent radiance). The best gain setting of OSMI for ocean monitoring is recommended. This analysis is considered to be useful for the OSMI mission and operation planning, the OSMI image data calibration, and users' understanding about OSMI image quality.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the spatial structures for household activities according to the house size. multi-Dimentional Scaling analysis was done, using questinonaire data from 349 middle income housewives living in apartment in the area of Captital region. This was an extended article of previous one. In case of house whose size was less than 20 Pyung, washing cloth and bathing behavior took place in the same place whereas in other house size, bathing behavior was incoperated into various behaviors usually shown in the bedroom. The ideal structure in the house of 20 Pyung's showed home office space closer to the bedroom area whereas in others it appeared independently.

  • There are invisible wars going on to preoccupy required satellite information for national defense, industry and living in the out space. Therefore, Korea has developed and successfully launched KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite), Korea's first multi-pur pose applications satellite, on December 21, 1999. In the course of geometric corrections with KOMPSAT-1 images, an accuracy of GCP collections is analyzed by the coordinated of digital map respective and an accuracy according to the GCP disposition was analyzed as well. For disposition of GCP, it turned out that even distribution on the whole screen contributes to promote accuracy. These are expected to used as basic data in putting the KOMPSAT-1 geometric correction into practical use.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a method of how to perform risk assessment in the early stage of defense research and development for the acquisition of weapon systems. An advanced method for risk assessment and its associated objective functions are developed first based on the concept of systems engineering. The developed method is then applied to carry out the analysis of alternatives in the trade-off environments. As a case study, the multi-purpose training ship is considered, where it is performed using the notions of technology readiness levels, degrees of difficulty, and technology need values to facilitate design space visualization and decision maker interaction. It is noted that decision makers can benefit from our approach as an improved risk assessment method in the context of multi-criteria decision making.

  • In current, there has not been the evaluation model for the optimum design of the multi-utility tunnel by considering urban type and size, the function of surrounding road and feasibility analyses with respect to construction method, and arrangement of accommodation facilities inside multi-utility tunnel. Thus, in this study, we developed the evaluation model for the optimum design of the multi-utility tunnel before and after the decision of the multi-utility tunnel installation. In this paper, we have selected the Deming cycle which is used in various fields among several decision methods for optimizing the design. For the purpose of reflecting the various factors in the design of the multi-utility tunnel, 11 higher indicators were set up to lead to more detailed approaches. In addition, based on the "Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA)" circulation method, we can realize the installation of the multi-utility tunnel and design more efficiently through the first phase for conception and the second phase for optimization, and develop the program for the evaluation model accordingly.

  • In this paper, The study was conducted on the method to roughly determine the area and length of the multi-utility tunnel before the planning and design phase of the multi-utility tunnel construction. For this purpose, four feasibility indexes were used: traffic density, population density, disaster prevention index (number of workers), and urbanization rate, which reflect the regional characteristics. The installation criteria were set in consideration of the average value and minimum value of the feasibility indexes for the tunnel type among areas that can be installed in the multi-utility tunnel of Seoul. The analysis area included 200 areas based on 14 zones. The results of the analysis based on the minimum value of feasibility indexes indicated that the tunnel type of multi-utility tunnel is suitable for 39 areas with high traffic volume and population. On the other hand, the 'gun' area, etc., has a wider population than the 'si' and 'gu', suggesting that it is not suitable to install multi-utility tunnel. In addition, it can be seen that the larger the index value centered on the minimum value of each index, the smaller the tunnel type of multi-utility tunnel installation area.

  • This study aims at suggesting an alternative to improve current capacity of flood control for the existing Soyanggang multi-purpose dam which was constructed 20 years ago as a largest dam in Korea. The newly estimated value of the probable maximum precipitation(PMP) is 760.0 mm which is based on the hydrometeorological method. The peak inflow of 1000 years return period at the time of construction was 13,500$m^3$/s. However, the newly estimated peak inflow of the PMF is 18,100$m^3$/s which is 1.34 times bigger than the original one. In order to adopt the newly estimated PMF as a design flood, following four alternatives were compared; (1) allocation of more flood control space by lowering the normal high water level, (2) construction of a new spillway in addition to the existing one, (3) raising the existing dam crest, (4) construction of a new dam which has relevant flood control storage at the upstream of the Soyanggang multipurpose dam. The preliminary evaluation of these alternatives resulted in that the second alternative is most economical and feasible. So as to stably cope with the newly estimated PMF by meeting all the current functions of the multi-purpose dam, a detailed study of an additional spillway tunnel has to be followed.
