Deployment of access point (AP) is a problem that must be considered in network planning. However, this problem is usually a NP-hard problem which is difficult to directly reach optimal solution. Thus, improved AP deployment optimization scheme based on swarm intelligence algorithm is proposed to research on this problem. First, the scheme estimates the number of APs. Second, the multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm is used to optimize the location and transmit power of APs. Finally, the greedy algorithm is used to remove the redundant APs. Comparing with multi-objective whale swarm optimization algorithm (MOWOA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and grey wolf optimization (GWO), the proposed deployment scheme can reduce AP's transmit power and improves energy efficiency under different numbers of users. From the experimental results, the proposed deployment scheme can reduce transmit power about 2%-7% and increase energy efficiency about 2%-25%, comparing with MOWOA. In addition, the proposed deployment scheme can reduce transmit power at most 50% and increase energy efficiency at most 200%, comparing with PSO and GWO.
The purpose of this research is to develop algorithms using the Differential Evolution Algorithm (DE) to solve a multi-objective, sources and stages location-allocation problem. The development process starts from the design of a standard DE, then modifies the recombination process of the DE in order improve the efficiency of the standard DE. The modified algorithm is called modified DE. The proposed algorithms have been tested with one real case study (large size problem) and 2 randomly selected data sets (small and medium size problems). The computational results show that the modified DE gives better solutions and uses less computational time than the standard DE. The proposed heuristics can find solutions 0 to 3.56% different from the optimal solution in small test instances, while differences are 1.4-3.5% higher than that of the lower bound generated by optimization software in medium and large test instances, while using more than 99% less computational time than the optimization software.
This paper describes a topology optimization technique which can maximize the fundamental frequency of the structures. The fundamental frequency maximization is achieved by means of the minimization of modal strain energy as an inverse problem so that the strain energy based resizing algorithm is directly used in this study. The strain energy to be minimized is therefore employed as the objective function and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. Multi-frequency problem is considered by the introduction of the weight which is used to combine several target modal strain energy terms into one scalar objective function. Several numerical examples are presented to investigate the performance of the proposed topology optimization technique. From numerical tests, it is found to be that the proposed optimization technique is extremely effective to maximize the fundamental frequency of structure and can successfully consider the multi-frequency problems in the topology optimization process.
In order to improve the efficiency of the design process and the quality of the resulting design for the application-based exclusive rolling element bearings, this study propose design methodologies by using a genetic-based combinatorial optimization. By the presence of discrete variables such as the number of rolling element (standard component) and by the engineering point of views, the design problem of the rolling element bearing can be characterized by the combinatorial optimization problem as a fully discrete optimization. A genetic algorithm is used to efficiently find a set of the optimum discrete design values from the pre-defined variable sets. To effectively deal with the design constraints and the multi-objective problem, a ranking penalty method is suggested for constructing a fitness function in the genetic-based combinatorial optimization. To evaluate the proposed design method, a robust performance analyzer of ball bearing based on quasi-static analysis is developed and the computer program is applied to some design problems, 1) maximize fatigue life, 2) maximize stiffness, 3) maximize fatigue life and stiffness, of a angular contact ball bearing. Optimum design results are demonstrate the effectiveness of the design method suggested in this study. It believed that the proposed methodologies can be effectively applied to other multi-objective discrete optimization problems.
With the wide application of intelligent household appliances, the optimization of electricity behavior has become an important component of home-based intelligent electricity. In this study, a multi-objective optimization model in an intelligent electricity environment is proposed based on economy and comfort. Firstly, the domestic consumer's load characteristics are analyzed, and the operating constraints of interruptible and transferable electrical appliances are defined. Then, constraints such as household electrical load, electricity habits, the correlation minimization electricity expenditure model of household appliances, and the comfort model of electricity use are integrated into multi-objective optimization. Finally, a continuous search multi-objective particle swarm algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization problem. The analysis of the corresponding example shows that the multi-objective optimization model can effectively reduce electricity costs and improve electricity use comfort.

The purpose of this paper is to improve the efficiency of multi-objective topology optimization using a genetic algorithm (GA) with bar-system representation. We proposed a new GA using an elite initial population obtained from a Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) using a weighted sum method. SIMP with a weighted sum method is one of the most established methods using sensitivity analysis. Although the implementation of the SIMP method is straightforward and computationally effective, it may be difficult to find a complete Pareto-optimal set in a multi-objective optimization problem. In this study, to build a more convergent and diverse global Pareto-optimal set and reduce the GA computational cost, some individuals, with similar topology to the local optimum solution obtained from the SIMP using the weighted sum method, were introduced for the initial population of the GA. The proposed method was applied to a structural topology optimization example and the results of the proposed method were compared with those of the traditional method using standard random initialization for the initial population of the GA.

This paper presents the newly developed Pareto-based multi-objective Bees Algorithm with weighted sum technique for solving a power system multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem. Specifically, the Pareto-based Bees Algorithm with memorized zone has been developed to alleviate both difficulties from classical techniques and intelligent techniques for multi-objective problems (MOP) and successfully applied to an Environmental/Economic (electric power) dispatch (EED) problem. This multi-objective Bees Algorithm has been examined and applied to the standard IEEE 30-bus six-generator test system. Simulation results have been compared to those obtained using other approaches. The comparison shows the potential and effectiveness of the proposed Bees Algorithm for solving the multi-objective EED problem.
In this study a multi-objective optimization problem is solved. The objectives used here include simultaneous minimum construction cost in term of sections weight, minimum structural damage using a damage index, and minimum non-structural damage in term of inter-story drift under the applied ground motions. A high-speed and low-error neural network is trained and employed in the process of optimization to estimate the results of non-linear time history analysis. This approach can be utilized for all steel or concrete frame structures. In this study, the optimal design of a planar eccentric braced steel frame is performed with great detail, using the presented multi-objective algorithm with a discrete population and then a moment resisting frame is solved as a supplementary example.
In order to improve the crane-hook's performance and service life, we formulate a multi-criteria shape design problem considering practical conditions. The structural weight, the displacement at specified points and the induced matrix norm of stiffness matrix are adopted as the evaluation items to be minimized. The heights and widths of cross-section are chosen as the design variables. The design variables are expressed in terms of shape functions based on the Gaussian function. For this multi-objective optimization problem with three items, we utilize a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, that is, the multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO). As a common feature of obtained solutions, the side views are tapered shapes similar to those of actual crane-hook designs. The evaluation item values of the obtained designs demonstrate importance of the present optimization as well as the feasibility of the proposed optimal design approach.
In this paper, multiphase optimization of machine structure is presented. The goal of first step is to obtain (i) light weight, (ii) rigidity statically. In this step, multiple optimization problem with two objective functions is treated using Pareto Genetic Algorithm. Where two objective functions are weight of the structure, and static compliance. The method is applied to a new machine structure design.
