  • In order to explore the influence of tooth root cracks on the dynamic characteristics of multi-stage planetary gear transmission systems, a concentrated parameter method was used to construct a nonlinear dynamic model of the system with 30-DOF in bending and torsion, taking into account factors such as crack depth, length, angle, error, time-varying meshing stiffness (TVMS), and damping. In the model, the energy method was used to establish a TVMS model with cracks, and the influence of cracks on the TVMS of the system was studied. By using the Runge- Kutta method to calculate the differential equations of system dynamics, a series of system vibration diagrams containing cracks were obtained, and the influence of different crack parameters on the vibration of the system was analyzed. And vibration testing experiments were conducted on the system with planetary gear cracks. The results show that when the gear contains cracks, the TVMS of the system will decrease, and as the cracks intensify, the TVMS will decrease. When cracks appear on the II-stage planetary gear, the system will experience impact effects with intervals of rotation cycles of the II-stage planetary gear. There will be obvious sidebands near the meshing frequency doubling, and the vibration trajectory of the gear will also become disordered. These situations will become more and more obvious as the degree of cracks intensifies. Through experiments, the theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental results, verifying the correctness of the theoretical model. This provides a theoretical basis for fault diagnosis and reliability research of the system.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop data base and interface for sofa consumers and sofa designers. The human sensibility ergonomics method was used to find the consumer needs and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method was used to extract the designing characteristics required for sofa production. About 200 words and 100 images were gathered from sofa and furniture related catalogs and internet sites to find the best emotional words and images that can express the various sofa aspect. Among the collected words and images, 34 emotional words were selected for sensibility experiment according to the opinions of experts, relations of closeness and frequency of use, and 50 images were selected for the experiment by the diversity. Selected words and images were used for the semantic differential method with 94 subjects, and sensibility characteristics of sofas were defined through various statistical analysis methods including basic statistical analysis, factor analysis and multi-dimensional scale. In reflecting design characteristics of sofas, design factors of sofas were divided into backrest, seat, armrest, neck support and leg, and relative importance of each factor for design was determined with analytic hierarchy process (AHP) by utilizing the experts' opinions. Based on the results above, relationship analysis between emotional evaluation results and design factors was performed. Also, as various sofa images are presented diagrammatically through multidimensional scaling method, it can be used as an important tool for the development of sofa design. This study will contribute improving the product quality of sofas as it enables applying consumer needs into the sofa design.

  • As concrete wind-turbine towers are increasingly being used in wind-farm construction, there is a growing need to understand the behavior of concrete wind-turbine towers. In particular, experimental evaluations of concrete wind-turbine towers are necessary to demonstrate the dynamic characteristics and load-carrying capacity of such towers. This paper describes a model test of a prestressed concrete wind-turbine tower that examines the dynamic characteristics and load-carrying performance of the tower. Additionally, a numerical model is presented and used to verify the design approach. The test results indicate that the first natural frequency of the prestressed concrete wind turbine tower is 0.395 Hz which lies between frequencies 1P and 3P (0.25-0.51 Hz). The damper ratio is 3.3%. The maximum concrete compression stresses are less than the concrete design compression strength, the maximum tensile stresses are less than zero and the prestressed strand stresses are less than the design strength under both the serviceability and ultimate limit state loads. The maximum displacement of the tower top are 331 mm and 648 mm for the serviceability limit state and ultimate limit state, respectively, which is less than L/100 = 1000 mm. Compared with traditional tall wind-turbine steel towers, the prestressed concrete tower has better material damping properties, potential lower maintenance cost, and lower construction costs. Thus, the prestressed concrete wind-turbine tower could be an innovative engineering solution for multi-megawatt wind turbine towers, in particular those that are taller than 100 m.

  • Nowadays wavelet transforms are widely used for the analyses of PIV velocity vector fields. This is bemuse the wavelet provides not only spatial information of the velocity vectors but also of time and frequency domains. In this study, a discrete wavelet trC1f1$form has been applied to real PIV images of bubbly flows. The vector fields obtained by a self-made cross-correlation PIV algorithm were used for the discrete wavelet transform The performances of the discrete wavelet transform is investigated by changing the level of power of discretization. The decomposed images by the wavelet multiresolution showed conspicuous characteristics of the bubbly flows according to the level changes. The high spatial bubble concentrated area could be evaluated by the constructed discrete wavelet transform algorithm, at which high leveled wavelets could play a dominant roles to reveal the flow characteristics.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new audio fingerprint extraction method, based on Philips' music retrieval algorithm, which uses the energy difference of neighboring filter-bank and probabilistic characteristics of music. Since Philips method uses too many filter-banks in limited frequency band, it may cause audio fingerprints to be highly sensitive to additive noises and to have too high correlation between neighboring bands. The proposed method improves robustness to noises by reducing the number of filter-banks while it maintains the discriminative power by representing the energy difference of bands with 2 bits where the quantization levels are determined by probabilistic characteristics. The correlation which exists among 4 different levels in 2 bits is not only utilized in similarity measurement. but also in efficient reduction of searching area. Experiments show that the proposed method is not only more robust to various environmental noises (street, department, car, office, and restaurant), but also takes less time for database search than Philips in the case where music is highly degraded.

  • In this paper, we employ the modulation technique for improving the characteristics of beamformer in the low frequencies and thus improving the overall noise reduction performance. In the 1-dimensional uniform linear microphone arrays, we can suppress the narrowband noise component using the delay-and-sum beamforming. But, for the wideband noise signal, the delay-and-sum beamformer does not work well for the reduction of low frequency component because the inter-element spacing is usually set to avoid spatial aliasing at high frequencies. Hence, the beamwidth is not uniform with respect to each frequency and it is usually wider at the low frequencies. In order to obtain the beamwidth independent of frequencies, subarray systems[1][2][3][4] and multi-beamforming[5] have been proposed. However these algorithms need large space and more microphones since they are based on the theory that the size of the array is proportional to the wavelength of the input signal. In the proposed beamformer, we reduce the low frequency noise by using modulation technique that does not need additional sensors or non-uniform spacing. More Precisely, the array signals are split into subbands, and the low frequency components are shifted to high frequencies by modulation and reduced by the delay-and-sum beamforming techniques with small size microphone array. Experimental results show that the proposed technique Provides better performance than the conventional ones, especially in the low frequency band.
