  • On-line condition monitoring is a useful tool for maintaining and extending the longevity of power transformers. An intelligent diagnostic system is desirable for operational safety and reliability. Bringing these concepts together results in a powerful support tool for engineers, reducing the volume of data to deal with, and making the data more meaningful. This paper describes how a multi-agent system for diagnosing the cause of transformer partial discharge activity was coupled with a method of UHF partial discharge monitoring, creating an on-line condition monitoring system. The challenges presented by the on-site environment are discussed, along with the implications for the complete system.

  • In this study, a solid-state laser system adopting a new real time multi-discharge (RTMD) method in which three flashlamps are turned on consecutively was designed and fabricated to examine the pulse width and the pulse shape of the laser beams depending upon the changes in the lamp turn-on time. That is, this study shows a technology that makes it possible to make various pulse shapes by turning on three flashlamps consecutively on a real-time basis with the aid of a PIC one-chip microprocessor, With this technique, the lamp turn-on delay time can be varied more diversely from 0 to 10 ms and the real-time control is possible with an external keyboard, enabling various pulse shapes. In addition, longer pulses can be more widely used for industrial processing and lots of medical purposes.

  • In manufacturing processes, various and suitable pulse shapes are required for the purpose of material processing. In order to make various pulse shapes with variable pulse length and high duty cycle, We have fabricated the power supply consisting 6 SCRs and the Pulse Forming Network(PFN) with the precise delay time control. So our control system has three switching circuits, 3 mesh PFN, and simmer circuit. In addition, we have designed and fabricated the PIC one-chip microprocessor(16F877) to control the delay time of sequential switching.

  • Throughout manufacturing processes, pulse shaping is required for material processing and it is regarded as an important (actor according to the specific characteristics of materials. Therefore, this study suggests a highly appropriate pulse shaping technique using a multi-switching method. This is a pulse superposition method in which one flash lamp can consecutively turn on by the double switching of the discharging system. It is possible to construct a variety of pulse shapes and pulse widths by the consecutive trigger of the silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCR) of a PIC (program integrated circuit) one-chip microprocessor. The use of this technique can provide a number of advantages to people who require suitable pulse shaping for particular applications such as welding, cutting, and drilling.

  • The study deals with the effects of parameters in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes in liquid nitrogen to find the most appropriate conditions such as electrical voltage and time that give carbon nanotubes with large volume and less proportion of impurity, which is a non-nanotubed carbon. The experiment employed the method of arc-discharge between graphite cathode and anode which are immersed in liquid nitrogen. The electrical DC current of 60A and 70A were applied with the time period ranging from 10 seconds to 25 seconds. It was found that the electrical current of 60A and 13 seconds arc-discharge time allowed the largest volume of carbon nanotubes generation. The longer time leads to more impurities around the carbon nanotubes. By the filtration of CNTs-suspended solution using 0.2 micrometers porous paper filter and the characterization using TEM, the carbon nanotubes synthesized in the study were approximately 25 layers multi-walled nanotubes with the average diameter of 18.2 nanometers.

  • In this papers, we proposed the new method in order to diagnosis partial discharge type of transformers. For wavelet transform, Daubechies filter is used, we can obtain wavelet coefficients which is used to extract feature of statistical parameters (maximum value, average value, dispersion, skewness, kurtosis) about high frequency current signal per 3-electrode type (needle-plane electrode, IEC electrode and Void electrode.). Also. these coefficients are used to identify Signal of internal partial discharge in transformer. As a result. from compare of high frequency current signal amplitude and average value. we are obtained results of IEC electrode> Void electrode> Needle-Plane electrode. otherwise. In case of skewness and kurtosis, we are obtained results of Void electrode> IEC electrode > Needle-Plane electrode. As Improved method in order to diagnosis partial discharge type of transformers, we use neural network.

  • We have developed a new method to visualize river networks in tropical rain forests from JERS-1 SAR images. This method compresses river information in an original SAR image to a small image displaying wide rivers as dark objects in real size and narrower rivers as bright objects showing brightness level as an indicator of the discharge. We applied this method to 476 images of Amazon forests, 13 observations for path 415 data and 11 observations for path 416 data between 1993 and 1997. We confirmed that a change observed in a preliminary experiment was certainly a part of seasonal changes. The changes roughly correspond to the monthly precipitation changes. Through a simple digital analysis although qualitative, we also detected subtle but consistent regional differences among minor tributaries that belong to a major tributary basin.

  • From the gradual increasing state of charge (GISOC) observations, electrochemical behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotube│(lM LiP $F_{6}$ , EC,DEC,DME 3:5:5 volume ratio)│lithium cells was evaluated using the galvanostatic charge-discharge process. A MWCNT delivers a specific charge capacity of 1,300 mAh/g in a Li cell when cycled up to an end voltage of 0 V (vs. Li/L $i^{+}$ )at a constant current rate every 10 hours. However, in the present study, the specific discharge capacity obtained is 338 mAh/g, thus amounting to a coulombic efficiency of only 26%. Further, when the MWCNT│Li cells were tested using the GISOC method, two distinguishable linear-fit ranges were observed due to the intercalation/deintercalation of lithium, which were found to have II $E_1$, IIC $s_1$ and II $E_2$of 27.3%, 372 mAh/g, and 25.5%, respectively. Q $c_1$, could be calculated from the data of IIE and IICs of each range by the modified equation "II $C_{sum}$= $\Sigma$( $Q_{C}$- $Q_{D}$)=(II $E_{1}$$^{-1}$ ) $Q_{Dl}$ +(II $E_2$$^{-1}$ -1) ( $Q_{D2}$- $Q_{Dl}$ ) + IIC $s_1$= $Q_{Cl}$ - $Q_{Dl}$ ". Results of the GISOC method could be converted to the results of galvanostatic charge-discharge process, irrespective of the state of charge of the cell or battery.ery.y.y.

  • Recently, lasers have become widely used throughout the medical treatment field. Several types of lasers have been used for the purpose of hair removal since the Alexandrite laser was approved by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) for clinical epilation. In this study, a long-pulsed Alexandrite laser system for hair removal adopting a multi-discharge method in which three flash lamps are turned on consecutively was designed and fabricated. This laser system shows the technology that makes it possible to create extended pulse by turning on three flash lamps consecutively. With this technique, the pulse width can be varied from 4ms∼10ms. Then using this Alexandrite laser system with the pulse width 10ms and the beam size 7mm, hair removal was performed on the back portion of a human hand and leg. This study shows that treatment by the long-pulsed Alexandrite laser produces hair removal with no relevant side effects.
