  • In this paper, a modification coefficient for equivalent single degree of freedom (SDOF), considering the plasticity range of the member subjected to shock wave type of blast load, was developed. The modification coefficient for the equivalent SDOF was determined through comparison with the analysis of a multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) system. The parameters influencing the equivalent SDOF system analysis were chosen as the boundary conditions of the member and the ratio of the duration of blast load to the natural period of the member. The modification coefficient was calculated based on the elastic load-mass transformation factor. The modification coefficient curve was derived using an elliptical equation to ensure it exists between the upper and lower parameter bounds. Using the modification coefficient on examples with varying cross sections and boundary conditions reduced the SDOF analysis error rate from 15% to 3%. This study shows that using the modification coefficient significantly improves the accuracy of SDOF analysis. The modification coefficient proposed in this study can be used for blast analysis.

  • In the paper one investigates the benefits deriving from the introduction of SMA provisions in a structure subject to dynamic excitation and vertical loads. At this purpose one considers a multi-degree-of-freedom (mdof) shear elastic-plastic frame and designs couples of super-elastic SMA tendons to be placed at critical locations of the structure. Particular attention is focused on the reduction of $P-{\Delta}$ effects.

  • A harmonic type differential quadrature approach for nonlinear dynamic analysis of multi-degree-of-freedom systems has been developed. A series of numerical examples is conducted to assess the performance of the HDQ method in linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis problems. Results are compared with the existing solutions available from other analytical and numerical methods. In all cases, the results obtained are quite accurate.

  • In this study, dynamic optimal design far a two degree-of-freedom anthropomorphic robot module is performed. Several dynamic design indices associated with the inertia matrix and the inertia power array are introduced. Analysis for the relationship between the dynamic parameters and the design indices shows that trade-offs exist between the isotropy and the dynamic design indices related to the actuator size. A composite design index is employed to deal with multi-criteria based design with different weighting factors, in a systematic manner. We demonstrate the fact that dynamic optimization is another significant step to enhance the system performances, followed by kinematic optimization.

  • This paper presents a case study with a multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system where the Floor Response Spectra (FRS) have been derived from a large ensemble of ground motion accelerograms. The FRS are evaluated by the frequency response function which is calculated numerically. The advantage of this scheme over a repetitive time-history analysis of the entire structure for each accelerogram of the set has been highlighted. The present procedure permits generation of FRS with a specified probability of exceedence.

  • This paper designs the robust hybrid controller for the multi degree-of-freedom system having uncertainty caused by modeling error and disturbances. The controlled plant is the construction which has an active dynamic vibration absorber on the top and is excited by the El Centre earthquake at the base. The active controller designed by the LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) and H-infinity control theory. The robustness of the hybrid H$\infty$ controller is compared with that of the hybrid LQ controller from computer simulation.

  • Methods for the estimation of the coefficient matrices in the equation of motion for a linear multi-degree-of-freedom structure arc studied. For this purpose, the equation of motion is transformed into an auto-regressive and moving average with auxiliary input (ARMAX) model. The ARMAX parameters are evaluated using several methods of parameter estimation; such as toe least squares, the instrumental variable, the maximum likelihood and the limited Information maximum likelihood methods. Then the parameters of the equation of motion are recovered therefrom. Numerical example is given for a 3-story building model subjected to an earthquake exitation.

  • The objective of present paper is to provide the fundamental data of earthquake-resistance design such as estimating the resistance capacity and evaluating the design seismic load. With one bending failed building, it is checked and compared between real damaged result and analysis value by means of static and dynamic analysis using multi-degree of freedom system. In this analysis, four kinds of the earthquake waves are used. Through elasto-plastic seismic response analysis of reinforced concrete building, we could estimate dynamic behaviour of building.

  • The modal parameter estimations of linear multi-degree-of-freedom structural dynamic systems are carried out in time domain. For this purpose, the equation of motion is transformed into the autoregressive and moving average model with auxiliary stochastic input (ARMAX) model. The parameters of the ARMAX model are estimated by using the sequential prediction error method. Then, the modal parameters of the system are obtained thereafter. Experimental results are given for a 3-story building model subject to ground exitations.

  • The dynamics of train has recently been analysed in many cases and very complex nonlinear creep theories have been developed by many engineers. But much calculation time is spent and latest complex creep theories cannot be adapted in train analysis. In this study efficient and fast train analysis method was suggested. Many of degree of freedom were reduced in multi-vehicle system using equivalent system and fast calculation time was achieved. And the accuracy of equivalent system method was proved by linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis.
