  • The structure of MMSE receiver frontended by CMA array working in CDMA forward link is proposed. By using the despreaded pilot signal of forward link as a reference signal, CMA array can capture multi-path signals securely even in severely faded mobile channel. The remaining MAl (Multiple Access Interference) is cancelled by the cascaded MMSE receiver. Through computer simulation, it is proved that the proposed system shows much better BER performance than any other systems. As a mobile based spatio-temporal receiver, the proposed system also reduces implemental cost and complexity by adopting the simplest algorithm for its spatial and temporal domain processing.

  • The active noise cancellation system showing the effective convergence and stability has been studied by simplifying the controller structures using the weighting factors of control error path to the multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm which needs a lot of calculations and the performance has been verified experimentally. Besides, to implement the system performance in a vehicle cabin, experimental work for selecting the suitable numbers and positions of the microphones and speakers was accomplished. Effectively combining a TMS 320C 31 main processor conducting real number calculations and having various functions with other components, the purpose-built system board for active noise cancellation has been designed and with this board, car active noise cancellation system showing maximum stable 10dB noise reduction has been obtained at the car idling conditions above 3000rpm range.

  • A new multi constant modulus algorithm (MCMA) for a blind decision feedback equalizer is proposed. In order to avoid the error propagation problem in the conventional DFE structure, Feed-Back Filter coefficients are updated only after Feed-Forward Filter coefficients are sufficiently converged to the steady state. Therefore, it has the problem of slow convergence speed characteristics. To overcome this drawback, the proposed MCMA algorithm uses not only new cost function considering the minimum distance between the received signal and the representative value containing the statistical characteristics of the transmitted signal, but also adaptive step-size according to the equalizer outputs to fast convergence speed of FBF. Simulations were carried out under the certified communication channel environment to evaluate a performance of the proposed equalizer. The simulation results show that the proposed equalizer has an improved convergence and SER performance compared with previous methods. The proposed techniques offer the possibility of practical equalization for cable modem and terrestrial HDTV broadcast (using 8-VSB or 64-QAM) applications.
